When my Uncle returned home after serving two tours in Korea, he pulls up in Marriana Arkansaw, in his uniform , and a black and white 1959 Pontiac Bonneville, Wow , I thought that he and that Pontiac, were the greatest two things in the world !
59 Bonny convertible with what looked like to me, factory ac power windows and possible power drivers seat...absolutely amazing for 59 on cars other than Caddys...Just gorgeous...thanks Lou!
Hi Daniel, Happy to read the details you enjoy about this car. Good news! I've done an "updated" video of this car, so stay tuned for it to show up in a future episode. My pleasure sharing with you, and you're welcome, Lou
In my view (and many others I am told) this automobile is the most beautiful vehicle EVER to come out of Detroit. The great square stance, the long straight lines, the unique style remains incomparable right into this day. Fit for a King!
@ Leslie Moore, that HOT red colour certainly does it justice doesn't it?!? That's what caught my eye, while I was looking at the light green Buick Electra 225 convertible on the same YT page!
As you know from my previous posts, my folks had a 1959 Pontiac Bonneville VISTA DOME 4-door flat top hardtop. White w/Coral roof and interior. In California, the fender skirts were never put on. Personally, I like the look better without the fender skirts. This was truly one of GM'S most beautiful designs. All of GM'S designs were amazing. This car had one of the most beautiful dashboards as well. Just beautifully designed and styled. No wonder it was MOTOR TREND'S CAR OF YHE YEAR.
My father bought me a 1959 Pontiac Catalina Convertible, used in 1966 for my 16th Birthday, with the Idea to be used for a paper route delivering The Miami Herald Newspaper. The route was on South Treasure Island on the 79th Street Causeway. My uncle was the Circulation Manager for the Herald and was the employee with the longest years of service about 50 years when he retired. It turned out to be a bad choice due to the Wide Track width. The houses had a single car concrete driveway and garage. So by that year they all had a second car. Which they parked next to the curbside on each side of the street. I found it impossible to squeeze between the car obstacle course with the Pontiac. So I gave up newspaper delivery and got a part time after school Job and kept the Convertible. I put a new black convertible top on it and found during the rainy season that a good bit of the floor was rusted out. After that started the saga repairing and upgrading the car. Two years of effort went into all the improvements made. I found just by chance, while driving through a fancy neighborhood, there was a 1959 Bonneville Convertible that had been totaled because the frame was bent. It was parked in the front driveway. I got out and looked at the car. There was the great Bonneville Interior like yours. Plus all the chrome appointments that are on your Red one. I met the owner and he told me his insurance company had paid him enough so he hadn't lost on the transaction. He gave me the car if I would have it towed away that week. How could I pass on that deal. I had a good friend who was about my age whose father was a great mechanic and worked on GM Cars. We disassembled both cars and reassembled the Bonneville's entire interior into the Catalina. All the best parts from Bonneville went into the Catalina. Including the dashboard, steering wheel, power windows, all leather White, Silver and Blue power bucket seats. It ended up looking just like the Bonneville Convertible you have, but it was White with the Black Convertible Top with a glass rear window. This was my first and favorite car I ever owned. The best road car as far as comfort goes. I really enjoyed it for many years. Unfortunately I made the mistake of selling it to a collector in the area during the gas crisis of the Jimmy Carter Presidency. I couldn't find enough gas to keep driving it. At least you are enjoying yours. I lost touch with the man who bought it. It was used in a couple of period films made in Miami. I believe in one Orange Bowl Parade.
Sir you are "ONE LUCKY PERSON TO OWN A 59 BONNEY." My Dad owned one and I love the car. Cruises at 110mph on back roads. Comfortable is the word for cross country drives. "Just total class." I called it My "BON-BON." Nothing but good memories in the car. "What a beauty!" My Dad had Good Taste in cars.
Cranbrook , Kirk in the Hills , Bloomfield Hills ? It's where I lived . It's where the auto executive's lived. Lou , another incredible gem . I guess I missed those masterpieces , but the later years , the Eldorados , the 225 convertibles , the Continentals ... Awesome . I'm so thankful . Detroit was awesome growin' up in the 60's and 70:s . We all had money . Thanks . Life is so special . I think we had it best of all generations . I think now life will have to become .. serious . Lou , you and I have experienced the best . So lucky we are . The warming of our planet is worrysome . I think right now , we have lived the best . So thankful . The ice is melting . It's gettin' hotter . Probably , human life is goin' to be a struggle in the future . The card you show represent Detroit at it's finest . Thank you .
Thanks Lou . Can I just say , I appreciate so much love you have for these cars . They are pieces of art . I'm so with you on that . I mentioned I'm 63 , June 30 - it's when I was hatched in Royal Oak , Michigan . I grew up privaleged in Bloomfield Hills on pine lake . 8 out of 10 families in the ,70's had money. The auto industry was the source . Money to ski at Boyne mountain in the winter , boating on the Great Lakes . I grew up collecting those " Jo - Hann " model cars when I was young . Those. Chrysler imperial 1966 convertibles. Blue/ white interior ... ..., Thanks for communicating with me . The cars you spend your effort and time reminding , me .. ... how special life was back then . Thanks . So , we both it seems , have about 20 or so years to live . Let's see what bullshit new cars come up with . It will be awesome . Too nutso expensive , but wonderful. Thanks Lou.
What a gentleman the owner is, beautiful car 🚗 love how they ride, I noted the driver was in colour code red shirt with grey hair as in a red car with chrome being his hair, we have a Chevrolet Impala right-hand drive and yes the gap on the bench seat to the passenger is big, three people can sit in the front seat and same back seat. Another great presentation of a well-thought-of and built car. Thank you.
Very rare, the bucket seats back then. I have never, ever seen thos seat covers before. They are even more stunning than all the other tri-color seat covers of 59-61
So here it is 2020 and there aren't any car shows or museums to attend durring Covid. Glad to have this show to see the rolling artwork of 1950s and 60s America to pass the time. Thanks!

@@garymckee8857 I do as well, Gary. The thing is most styling ideas had been used up by the early 1970's anyway. Then the oil embargo and by the late '70s the cars were look-a-like sedans. No more pillarless coupes either 2 or 4 door. Only sedans. At least 2 door sedans were still offered, but even those went away in the '80s. There's virtually no demand for any 2 door cars at all now, period. It's all rent-a-car style 4 door sedans, SUV's/minivans, crossovers and trucks. Even the Camaro (revived in 2009) is going away with the '23 model due to lack of sales. The sales have been steadily declining for several years. Mustang's not doing that great, but well enough. The Challenger continues to do very well. Younger people are only interested in utility if they even want a vehicle instead of Uber or Lyft. They see 'cars' as transportation appliances anyway because it's been that way their whole lives. Government safety requirements, the outrageous cost of cars, the insurance this, that and the other have all created the boring situation we've been in most of MY life, and I was born in '57. Unfortunately I think cars are going to look pretty much the way they do now from here on out. It goes with everything else. Nothing is flourishing anymore. Music, style, fun, carefree times, all gone. So these uptight, boring sedans we see everywhere go with these times the way this Pontiac went with those. They're a mirror reflection of the times they were produced, then and now. That's the one commonality that never changes.
Lou. You've done it again. You get to see the greatest automobiles but more importantly, we get to meet the owner, George. He truly love's this car and what a story. Thank you Lou and thank you George. God bless both of you.
The owner is right - the amount of effort that went into all the small details and embellishments is amazing- and they changed every year across a full line of models. Amazing really and unthinkable today. These huge behemoths are not to everyone’s taste and often, mechanically at least, they were unsophisticated but one has to appreciate them just for the effort that went into them.

What an awesome Pontiac. With a Super Duty 389 Tri Power and factory air. People didn't get AC in convertibles back then. Pretty cool automobile. I have always had a great love for Pontiacs. Our family has owned a few over the years. 65 GTO , 67 Grand Prix, 2 77 Trans Am one being a Y82 special edition, a 79 Bonneville 4 dr sedan, 80 Sunbird Hatchback. Like George I love Pontiacs still but now I own and drive Corvettes. I really miss my Y82 special edition.
"ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL Car!!" I LOVE RARE cars!!! This is STUNNING!!! I think this car is "MUCH More EXCITING than a 59 Cadillac BY FAR!!! The styling looks BETTER than the 59 caddy!!!" to me!!
In 1960 (the year I was born) my father bought a leftover ‘59 Boneville..(4 door sedan) He only had it for 3 years, but fondly reminisced about that car ‘til the day he died. He always boasted about it being a “wide track”

This car looks wonderful and also truly elegant, with no tons of chrome as it was usual that time. Red with the white roof is perfect! Simply great in comparison to our dark, sad and barbaric SUVs !! No more elegance nowadays also in people's clothes and behaviour: after the 68' things went downhill
I agree marco! I was just thinking a few days ago that 1967ish was a time when society really started to deteriorate! Drugs were becoming openly widespread, which certainly had a huge negative bearing on things. Pop music got 'heavy' also. On the bright side, the cars were CLASSIC back then though!
Absolutely drop-dead gorgeous car. My neighbor had the coupe version but this one, oh my god!! You're killing me, Lou, what eye candy and tri-power to boot. Thank you, thank you.
Obviously built during an era when stylists called the shots. Difficult to believe GM were offering such a heady mix of glitzy ornamentation and rakish looks to the American buying public only one year after the McDonnel Douglas F-4 Phantom made its first flight. This car, for me at least, sums up the American motorists' relationship with their automobiles. The Tripower engine makes do with one carburetor during normal running, numbers two and three kicking in only when the throttle is opened wider. That's something I had to look up. Another great video from Mr. Costabile. Thank you, Sir !
Hi Andrew Graham, Great comment sharing information to add to the story from the "Master of Comments" and the written word. You're welcome and the pleasures all mine Mr. Graham, Lou
Tell the owner how many people viewing this video are bedazzled by that car and are speechless. What a gem. He did not find the car, the car found him.
Love 59 Pontiac's. First year of both the 389 engine and the Wide Track stance. The 57-58 347/370 Tri Power Pontiac's are really cool too and so is the 57 Bonneville...Pontiac's first muscle car
This is a real beauty. As far as 1959 GM cars go, I rank it right behind the Buick Electra 225 convertible by a hair. In my world, that's pretty darned good.
Dang Lou ! This a classy night club lounge on 4 wheels . This is the definition of style in an automobile. Style that is definitely extinct today . Thanks for sharing.
This is truly like a step back in time. I grew up in the fifties and remember these well, but have never seen such a beauty as this! This must have been the owner of the Pontiac dealership’s car then! What an amazing time capsule! Great acquisition!
There was an arty old film called, 'Entertaining Mr.Sloane' (a British film) in which one of these fabulous '59 Pontiacs'was featured... At the time, I remember thinking, "WOW, those Americans certainly know how to build snazzy cars." Well, of course, people don't use that expression anymore, but I'm going to; now that I have been reminded of it. This is a SNAZZY car. Love it Lou. Keep up the great work and Cheers from across the pond.
Hi / Cheers from across the pond JOHNNIE LORD OF THE MungoidHen PEOPLE, Glad you enjoyed this one and consider it "SNAZZY", Nice! Thank you for the encouragement, Lou
Pontiac always makes great cars .I personally used to have Grand Prix when I was studying in the States. Great car . Thanks LOU for sharing this video. Have a nice weekend. Appreciate your efforts and concern showing all great cars.
Hi Hisham Elfiki, Thank you for viewing and sharing details on your Pontiac. Hope you have a nice weekend too. Appreciate you viewing the cars on the Channel, Lou
I think this is my favorite Car from the 50's! We had the '59 Star Chief and it was the only car I balled my eyes out like a baby the day my dad sold it. (I was 8) I loved that Car. The chrome in the dash, the lines, the split grill, the sparkle in the rugs, I still remember the smell! Love this car and they don't go cheap! They were very reasonable 10 years ago. PERFECT HERE and dressed the way I like it. And I like some of the other colors even the light green, or Golds, or silvers, ours was silver. THANK YOU LOU!
Hi Gene978, "Favorite Car from the 50's!" High praise :-) Thank you for sharing details on your families cool cars and adding to the story. You're welcome, Lou
Back around 1979 or so, an old woman who lived by herself, in my neighbourhood drove this exact car, same colour, same year, but hers had an acrylic see through steering wheel. she was rich, of course.... and one early morning, i woke up hearing this putt putt, putt putt on the street, looked out, and there was mrs. burgoyne in her candy apple red, top down bonneville, slowly driving down the street headed toward her house. she had a kerchief on her head too, it was the perfect sight. that car was SO long that when she parked it in her garage, she could not fully close the garage door, about 2 feet of the car stuck out so the garage door was always only closed about 3/4, we could always see the back end of her car and know she was home. her brother owned the city newspaper and her family were well known. she's long since passed, her house is still there, i don't think anyone lives in it. the car long gone. but wow, what a memory.
06:00 This pontiac features a maximum speed sensor, it is the dial at 100+ Km, basically when you reach that speed a buzz warned you. My Dad was about to buy a 4 doors sedan to my big brother around 1968-1969 in South America, exactly this model, that is how I learned about the speed sensor and how it worked.
I was definitely born in the wrong automotive era. It doesn't matter where your loyalties were, every car was a rolling piece of artwork. Keep the videos coming.
Hi David Gregg, Thank you for viewing, sharing, and appreciate your kind words regarding keeping the videos coming :-) Hope you see many cars on the Channel you'll enjoy, Lou
When I was a kid, there were a lot of late '50s tailfin and chrome masterpieces around. They were so hot I thought they were the new ones and that the drab, boring cars of the '60s were the old ones. Suddenly the tailfin cars started disappearing - and I realized I had it backwards. The dreary cars were new and the gorgeous ones old! It was the first of many times in my life I wondered what the hell people were thinking, abandoning something good for something less.
What a lot of people don't realize is there were a lot of cars that really went by the way in the 70's for example because of issues like rust. So you don't get to see a lot of the transition's in the style changes because of this problem. For example there were a lot of cars like the Dodge Duster, Dodge Dart, Ford Comet and Maverick and so on that were popular but the rust problem demised their appearance today. Unless you live in states like California's.
@@drdecker1 first off it's Plymouth Duster and Mercury Comet not Dodge Duster and Ford Comet. Second in my lifetime I feel that it was the cars of the 60s and early 70s that were the most drop dead gorgeous, not taking anything away from the 50s, From the time that the feds started to regulate the automakers that's when design and styling amongst other things started going downhill. Nowadays most newer cars look like dog shit!

My dad had this exact car in 2005. Unfortunately he put it in a body shop in watts California just to have it repainted. Everything else on the car was immaculate. When we went back to pick up the vehicle, the shop my dad directed me to had been closed for years and that's when we discovered he was in the earliest stages of Alzheimer's. The car was never found. And my dad had also misplaced all pertinent paperwork to assist in a possible recovery.
Hi Kevin Harris Sr., Uggghhhh. Sorry to read about your Dad's health and the situation with the car. Hope watching some of the cars on this RUclips Channel brings a smile to you, Lou
Lou, yet another great video. One thing about these cars is the fact that when parallel parking with parking meters, the rear was so long, that the driver had to be careful they didn't hit the meter behind them with the back quarter panel and bumper.
Hi Dale, Thanks for sharing your knowledge on the parking meter parking issue. Good news! I've done an updated video of this car that will be coming up in the future featuring the car in motion, and a drive too. Stay tuned, Lou
WOW, so gorgeous Lou, you were actually able to get the owner to take it “out” for a cool “fonzie” cruise. Those horns were nice & loud to let people see just how awesome this car truly is, what a gem. The car looks so fantastic even with the top UP, he’s one “blessed” owner. Now he just needs to learn how to Smile. 🙏🏻❤️✌️💚👍Boy Lou, you have a Cool job!
If you are ever in South Bend, Indiana... Home of the Studebakers! I have a 69 Pontiac Catalina Convertible original survivor that's been in the family since '74. Love seeing the Pontiac videos.
Hi Basker Cinematography, Sounds like you have a great car :-) I do not have a trip scheduled there, however if in my travels I'm in South Bend, I'll check out the Studebakers, thank you for the tip. Glad you're enjoying the Pontiac videos, Stay tuned, there will be more :-) Lou
Lou Costabile, alright! The museum is highly recommended! Also in the beginning of May every year is the studebaker national meet in south bend. -Jared Basker
The front face of the 1959 full-size Pontiac is among the best of all makes and all times. All of what is behind the face on this car make it a true icon of automotive history.
Incredible car everything from the paint job to the Chrome to the design I used to think that the Pontiac Star Chief was the nicest 50s convertible but definitely now I think the Bonneville takes that top spot this is just incredible piece of automotive design from the 50s thanks for creating this video
What can I say…….it’s a piece of art 👍I’m usually stuck with the Pontiacs with the Coke bottle shape but this one is gorgeous👍I just love it and the engine sound? Sounds like summer to me😎😎😎
I LOVE the interior color combination on that! In fact the hole car! My uncle (Dad's brother in law) had a 59 Star Chief and Dad walked into one of those sharp tail fins and cut himself bad.

I actually like this more than the 59 Caddy! The driver’s cockpit is way better than the Caddy! Also that smooth powerful V8 engine accelerating is just so tantalizing!
My neighbor owned a marina and one of the boat owners had this exact car except in purple. I can still remember the rumble of the dual Hollywood mufflers he had on it. I was 10 years old at the time.

My brother had one of these beautiful cars exactly the same 389 six pack except his was a hard top , i do believe it weighed 4600 pounds it was big and yes the trunk does not say enough unless your there looking into it, must of been a blast getting people into the drive inn. I wish i had that car today or the engine , i would have put it in a 67 GTO. Thanks Lou love your car.

Let's see what bullshit new cars come up
with .
Thank you.
Hi James, Happy to read the details you enjoy in this presentation. You're welcome, Lou
Very rare, the bucket seats back then. I have never, ever seen thos seat covers before. They are even more stunning than all the other tri-color seat covers of 59-61
Hi Warren, Happy to read the details you notice and enjoy. Lou
How can you not love this car?
Hi John, This one is easy to love :-) Good news! Here is an updated video of this car. Enjoy, Lou ruclips.net/video/50tqajmaXYM/видео.html
So here it is 2020 and there aren't any car shows or museums to attend durring Covid. Glad to have this show to see the rolling artwork of 1950s and 60s America to pass the time. Thanks!

This is one of the most beautiful automobiles ever made straight from the factory for sure. I love every detail.
HI BAtadCrazy, Glad you enjoy the design of this one :-) Lou
Beautiful, I can't remember any other car with 4 fins. A genuine work of art!
High praise :-)
Gorgeous car. Look where we were then and where we're at today. All the cars today look like an egg with four wheels.
Let's make sure not to scramble them :-)
Lou Costabile All the egg cars today 'need' to get scrambled.
Safety sucks
I have the same view of today's vehicles.
Hi wide awake, Glad you enjoy this story too :-) Blessings receive. You're welcome and God bless you too, Lou

One of the best looking Pontiacs of all time!
Hi Bruce Bryant, We have a Winner! :-) Lou
Yes indeed. Styling went downhill after that and hit bottom with the '64 models.
@@giuseppenero110 1964 Pontiacs are also works of art.
I was just starting HS when the 1959 Pontiac came out. Compared to the older cars, it looked like space ship!
I definitely agree!
You can tell this man is very proud of his car, as he should be!
Thank you for viewing and sharing.
Hi Dave, High praise for this Pontiac :-) Clearly your family is a Fan of the Brand, Lou
"ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL Car!!" I LOVE RARE cars!!! This is STUNNING!!! I think this car is "MUCH More EXCITING than a 59 Cadillac BY FAR!!! The styling looks BETTER than the 59 caddy!!!" to me!!
Hi Donald, High praise :-) Lou
In 1960 (the year I was born) my father bought a leftover ‘59 Boneville..(4 door sedan)
He only had it for 3 years, but fondly reminisced about that car ‘til the day he died. He always boasted about it being a “wide track”

Terrific boulevard cruiser, one sweet ride.....🎸
Hi Mike, Happy to read you enjoy this "sweet ride" :-) Lou
This brought back so many memories for me. I was 18 when this car was introduced. Breathtaking! Thanks for letting me relive my youth!
Hi Daryle Harris, Happy to read you enjoy this car, and it brought back memories too :-) You're welcome, Lou
Hi Marco, Happy to read you think this car "looks wonderful and also truly elegant" :-) NICE! Lou
@@mr.blackhawk142 : Totally agreed, Mr. Blackhawk! Best wishes
Absolutely drop-dead gorgeous car. My neighbor had the coupe version but this one, oh my god!! You're killing me, Lou, what eye candy and tri-power to boot. Thank you, thank you.
Hi Rich, High praise for this car :-) Happy to read this car brings back memories of the car neighbor :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
Graham, Lou

Love 59 Pontiac's. First year of both the 389 engine and the Wide Track stance. The 57-58 347/370 Tri Power Pontiac's are really cool too and so is the 57 Bonneville...Pontiac's first muscle car
Hi Jeremy Thompson, Happy to read you "love" this car :-) Lou
This is a real beauty. As far as 1959 GM cars go, I rank it right behind the Buick Electra 225 convertible by a hair. In my world, that's pretty darned good.
Glad to read you enjoy this car :-)
George has every right to be excited about this car! Beautiful! Beautiful! Thanks, Lou.

This is truly like a step back in time. I grew up in the fifties and remember these well, but have never seen such a beauty as this! This must have been the owner of the Pontiac dealership’s car then! What an amazing time capsule! Great acquisition!

Hi George B, Happy to read you remember this one :-) Lou
There was an arty old film called, 'Entertaining Mr.Sloane' (a British film) in which one of these fabulous '59 Pontiacs'was featured... At the time, I remember thinking, "WOW, those Americans certainly know how to build snazzy cars." Well, of course, people don't use that expression anymore, but I'm going to; now that I have been reminded of it. This is a SNAZZY car. Love it Lou. Keep up the great work and Cheers from across the pond.

Wonderful story / memory MrDb :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
06:00 This pontiac features a maximum speed sensor, it is the dial at 100+ Km, basically when you reach that speed a buzz warned you. My Dad was about to buy a 4 doors sedan to my big brother around 1968-1969 in South America, exactly this model, that is how I learned about the speed sensor and how it worked.
Thank you for viewing and sharing your story :-)
I was definitely born in the wrong automotive era. It doesn't matter where your loyalties were, every car was a rolling piece of artwork. Keep the videos coming.

@@GLC2013 Kinda similar with music 😪😪😪
Nobody makes cars like America ❤❤❤
Happy to share the American cars with you :-)

Ok; I can't stand it anymore. This car is WAY too perfect looking. George; you are extremely Blessed to have this automobile :) :) LOVE IT !!!!!!!!
