Gorgeous example that brings back many memories. My dad had a black '59 Catalina sedan than he dressed up by having Bonneville emblems installed on the rear fenders. It is the first family car I remember. The trunk is huge. We took that car from Pittsburgh to California in 1960 with my mom, dad, grandmother, me and my baby brother and all of our stuff fit in the trunk (plus a little in the back seat). His was a 326 cu inch and the interior was red vinyl, not nearly as ornate as this. Those chrome extensions on the rear bumper were problematic when backing down hilly driveways, though. Dad scraped them a time or two or three! Congratulations on owning this beautiful vehicle and best wishes for many happy miles!

The Bonneville Convertible is the best looking of the various models. And in this case, the skirts add to the look. Mr. Hansen sure keeps it clean throughout.
Wow, that dashboard is something like a jewelry case. Nice to see that George found the vehicle of his dreams and it is in superb condition. The 1950's and 1960's were really the pinnacle of US automotive design and this Bonneville surely is a fine example. Thanks for bringing this car to your followers Lou.
Hi Kevin, Happy to read you enjoy the interior "jewelry case" :-) Happy to read you enjoy seeing Georges "dream car" and my pleasure sharing this one with you. You're welcome, Lou
The one thing our younger generations missed about the 50’s & 60’s era cars was just how personal you could option them out. Seemingly endless interiors, colors, and engine choices. It would be interesting to know where this particular Bonneville was originally sold. Not only were Tri-Power convertibles rare, but ANY convertible with A/C was extremely rare unless ordered in the southernmost states. Finally, as a staunch Ohio State Buckeye fan, I’d want this car for the color combination of the interior! Thanks, Lou! ~ John
You nailed it John...My folks bought a brand new 60 Bonny convertible in NY, loaded with factory a/c, power windows, power seats in a beautiful palomino tan color...the neighbors on the block went wild when my pop drove on to the driveway...I thought it was the most beautiful car ever...I still do....such a very different time...
@@daniellack3559 Indeed. The other thing I didn’t mention… exterior and interior designs changed every model year. I was just now looking at photos of the years ‘58 through ‘61 Bonnevilles. It is amazing the year-to-year differences. Cheers, Daniel!
Hi John, Hoping a few younger people find this RUclips Channel and become passionate for cars like this. Happy to read you enjoy the colors on this car :-) Lou
The options we have to-day pale in comparrison, and this is supposedly advancement LoL. If those years were ahead of their time, then we are definitely behind them. Its all the wrong way around.
I always loved GTO's, Trans Am's, GTX's, Cuda's, Challenger's and Super Bee's - but given the choice I would take this beautiful work of art over any of them.
My gosh! That interior looks like it was done by an Interior Decorator. It was all about pleasing the customer back then. The quality and the comforts inside a car. People were dedicated to their work and truly cared about their product. Dont see that nowadays. I think Pontiac outdid themselves with this one. The 1960 was beautiful too.
Beautiful car. That dash for the time was really futuristic, and beautifully done. Pontiac was ahead of it's time. They seemed to have a more distinctive look about them. Sad to say they no longer make them. Loved this video. Thanks Lou.
That is an awesome interior. Kind of reminds me of a '50s era diner. Imagine it feels like you're sitting in one when at a drive in having a buger, fries and milk shake. I shared this with my kids and they were saying, "wow" and "that's so cool". I am equally impressed by is how smooth and quiet the car was at idle and when cruising along. It was the smoothest and quietest of all the older cars I have seen in your videos. Not that I have seen them all, but I have seen quite a few. Then when George would goose it, you'd hear the engine really come to life and sounded great. So happy for George.
There was also a teal blue, with dark gold shimmer for the seating choice. It paired so well with the iridescent nightfall blue color for 1959 Pontiac exterior.
The late 50s was the most radical designs. This ,the 59 Cadillac & Chevy Impala to name a few.Its amazing that all the fancy ornamentation & every model yr was vastly different. That's crazy & yes that's a cool interior.

The 58 and 59 Impalas were beautiful weren’t they? The 61-64 too. I’m not so crazy about the 60 but they’re still pretty nice. This Pontiac is certainly no slouch. I do love the interior.
@@vladtheimpala5532 61-64 were my favorite yrs but yea 58-59 blows my mind thinking of all the retooling & engineering that went into drastic looks from yr to yr.

My father-in-law had a 1959 Bonneville 4 door hardtop. A huge automobile by today's standards, it was like driving a barge on a river. The beginning of GM's huge cars of the 1960's until the gas crunch started.

Hi Kevin, Happy to share Georges "dream car" with you and glad this is one of your all time favorites too :-) My pleasure sharing this car with you, and you're welcome, Lou
1959 was first year for what would become the signature styling feature, the Pontiac split grille. Oddly, it wasn’t part of the 1960 styling package, but returned for good in 1961. I preferred the rear styling treatment of the 1960 over the 1959, with the embedded quad round tail lights. Cleaner looking over all.. And yes, that interior is the bomb! It really pops !
GREETINGS. From Venezuela.🌎 WONDERFUL BONNEVILLE CONVERTIBLE. Super Like the Mandalay Red Paint. Mr. Lou, I agree with you it is a GORGEOUS INTERIOR. Mr. Lou, Thank you very much for showing us this AWESOME CONVERTIBLE. Mr. Lou, Thanks for taking us along for the ride. 🌅
Well done video on a spectacular Bonnie. The star theme carried throughout the car even to the fins. I always liked the 61's but that 59 interior with "floating" armrests and grab bar deserves awards.

Thanks George and Lou! A great example of how American's fascination with new jet age and aerospace technology influenced design and engineering. Simply a rolling piece of art inside and out, and with the brute power that Americans came to expect from its post war industry. As to the best interior, its gotta be a top 3.

Yeah Brother! Now THAT'S a 'car-and-a-half'!! They didn't pull ANY punches when it came to styling back then. The start of the good ole 'Wide Tracks'. That interior is just BREATHTAKING! It hits you 'right between the eyes' as the saying goes!
This was the real America folks. The 1959 was the breakout year for Pontiac with a final dramatic break from the Brand's dowdy dull image. The difference was that. was now in full charge and Pontiac had become a world class top player in the power, performance and styling areas That was before we started to imitate third world countries with their econo Boxes. The silver with buckets tips this over the edge, the Astrodome swivel high-back seat 60/61 Chryslers are the only other interior I can think to hold a candle to this Bonneville.
A prime example of beautiful 1950's Pontiac/American styling, with all the power to boot! I'm a Mopar nut with a deep love for the Virgil Exner Chryslers of the same era, But I can easily say without a doubt that this is definitely one of the most wonderfully AMAZING designs I have ever seen! this is just breathtaking Lou, Thanks for making my morning! :-)
The 1959 GM cars took some styling from the 1957 Chrysler Corp cars when some of the GM guys saw them in late 1956, they raced to redesigned the 1959 cars. 1959 GM cars originally should have been a two year car, 58-59
@@peace.quiet.freedom6675 3-year design (at least for the “Senior” models, Olds, Buick, Cadillac) was what was intended, ‘57, ‘58, ‘59. In spite of the ‘58 looking so different from the ‘57s, they were really a carryover from ‘57. However, you are correct for Chevy, and Pontiac, since they didn’t get the restyle of ‘57, making ‘58 a one-year body style.
Remarkable pristine, fully loaded ‘59 Bonneville, with its “sparkling” silver-chrome interior and first-year legendary 389, and Tri-Power to boot, popped right out of the Pontiac brochure.

Thanks for sharing this beauty! Really clean - better than new. I forgot how big these things were. All the interior chrome must be dazzling in the full sunlight. Wear the shades for extra coolness.
Yup, I leafed through the 1965 Pontiac brochure that was at my house in the 60s, bc my dad was a car dealer and actually drove a new 1965 Parisienne. The brochures were a great sales tool back then! One of us grown up kids had a 1959 Pontiac too, circa 1972ish. It was the salmon color.
Too much to talk about in the comment section. You really knocked it out of the park this time, thanks Lou. Just absolutely amazing, and yeah you are right that interior was remarkable. Was that your Viper in the background?
Hi, Lou! 1959 was a real milestone year for Pontiac for a number of reasons. Three of the brand's hallmarks were established: Wide-Track, the arrowhead emblem and the split grille. The Bonneville had started out in 1957 as a limited production convertible, then added a hardtop for 1958. For 1959 it became a full series with the addition of the Vista four-door hardtop and Safari wagon. Also the Catalina name was applied to a full series for the first time, whereas previously it was the designation for hardtop models. It was also the first year for the iconic 389 engine, and the first year it was the number one selling medium-price brand in America, laying the foundation for the astounding sales success it would experience throughout the Sixties (the number three brand overall from 1962 to 1970). Best interior is always open to individual opinion and personal taste, but yeah, absolutely I think Pontiac aced it with the snazzy tri-color patterns on the Bonneville, and the Star Chief and Catalina interiors also look quite spiffy in their own way. George's car checks off all the right stuff: red, Tri-Power, 389, buckets, you name it! Phenomenal car indeed! Many thanks to you and George for taking us along on this magic Wide-Track ride!

Hi Old Town, Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car :-) Lou
Cheers, Daniel!
lol, go Buckeyes
Hi John, Hoping a few younger people find this RUclips Channel and become passionate for cars like this. Happy to read you enjoy the colors on this car :-) Lou
The options we have to-day pale in comparrison, and this is supposedly advancement LoL. If those years were ahead of their time, then we are definitely behind them. Its all the wrong way around.
That interior is so bright and beautiful compared to the all black interiors on today’s cars.
You're right :-)

@@loucostabile You bet high praise for this car!! My family had these cars. Catalina's and Bonneville convertibles!!
Tremendous is indeed a very appropriate description for this Bonneville's interior, especially the dash. It is a piece of art.
Hi Delray Shaffer, Happy to read you enjoy the dash on this car too :-) Lou
I always loved GTO's, Trans Am's, GTX's, Cuda's, Challenger's and Super Bee's - but given the choice I would take this beautiful work of art over any of them.
Hi Jason, High praise :-) Lou
Hi Wiiam, Happy to read you enjoy the details of this interior :-) Thanks for viewing and sharing, Lou
Beautiful car. That dash for the time was really futuristic, and beautifully done. Pontiac was ahead of it's time. They seemed to have a more distinctive look about them. Sad to say they no longer make them. Loved this video. Thanks Lou.
Hi Martin, Happy to read you enjoy this "beautiful car" :-) Appreciate the kind words on this video, and you're welcome, Lou
Happy to bring this Pontiac alive for you :-)
There was also a teal blue, with dark gold shimmer for the seating choice. It paired so well with the iridescent nightfall blue color for 1959 Pontiac exterior.
@@loucostabile It's so nice of you to respond to so many people's comments, thanks

I was wondering if this was the debut. Thanks!
Hi Bruce H., Happy to share this "beautiful" car with you :-) You're welcome, Lou

Hi CudaRebels Diecasts and Cars, Happy to read you enjoy this "AMAZING design" of this car :-) You're welcome, Lou

Huge WOW!
:-)
