You have the perfect mindset on what to do with the truck. A museum piece is nice it's much nicer to see these old girls out on the road doing what they were built to do.

Seen a ton of videos of old guys or guys that have passed away with tons of old cars, equipment and unfinished projects on their property all over youtube. Cool to see how it all starts.
I actually love old campers like that. There's so much that you can do with them. When I was younger my friend's dad actually got us an old camping trailer he found for free and we made it into a sweet fort. Unfortunately years later the whole thing collapsed due to the weight of the snow that year. We ended up stripping it down to the frame and selling it as a wood hauler.
Friend that place is far from a junkyard & I see nothing wrong with it. It’s good to see someone care for the old iron enough to not let it go for scrap, I’m exactly the same way buddy. Keep the awesome videos a rolling, stay safe on that pipeline.

One mans junk is another mans treasure. If you don't sell the antique farm equipment Matt perhaps you can clean it up, paint them and use them for lawn sculptures for your yard once you build the house. And before I got into law enforcement I worked as a glass and mirror glazer in Illinois and for a period in southwest Florida. Working outside in weather below 20 degrees with wind and snow is not high on my list so I agree with you on that. I really enjoy your videos and your bumper music is the best. And I pass no judgement on how things look, you get things done when you have the time and I'm sure your number one priority is providing for your family. I look forward for your next video.👍
You do what you need to do don’t listen to the people who are just here to talk rubbish about you and your content. keep up the great work thanks for the awesome content
Good afternoon May I say something? Do not rush it. The cabin is good for restoration. I got a lot of them around my place as well. I eagerly wait and anticipate all the videos to come as each of them get some of your attention. I am now always looking for the church update videos, but I take what you give out... Love your videos of the small jobs you do, the tour of the pipeline (would love more of those, with some narration of what is going on). Thank you sir. P.S., I don't know if you realized it, but you need some gravel where the AutoCar and dozer are parked... Ha, ha, ha...
I’d love to be able to make videos of working on the pipeline but the companies don’t like that. We’re not even supposed to take pictures actually but we all do.... no matter I haven’t been on a pipeline since this past spring anyway. That’s the reason I’ve had time to do the RUclips. It’s been nice having a life again and getting things accomplished! Lots of things to come!

Your farm is absolutely gorgeous you have trees, flat and water. The 57 looks good after the stem cleaning and from the looks of it it's not that bad I'm sure you can make it look better, the hatch looks original can you save it and see if you can find an adapter to fit inside before you cut it and sand blase the wheels I think they look very good original
In soft soil like you have, placing geotextile first will provide a better base. For your gravel it's best to lay in a base of 3" minus. Roll that in well, then top with 3/4" minus.
Agreed! I use geo under all my roads and lots! Check out some of my other videos and you’ll see how I’ve been doing the driveway! Thanks for watching!!
It has a kind of cartoonish look to it. Real cool. I would leave it as is and put a nice cedar shake shelter over in at the entrance to your property. Put your Diesel Creek sign there by it too.
Get yourself a decent place to work. It sure will make all of your projects much nicer to work on. Yes its a time and money balance. Just do what you can when you can.
Hey Matt, I've been checking out your 15 video series on "Building a Homestead from Nothing. I must have missed your video on your construction trailer shop build...so looking back through your vids to find it. Awesome so far!! Great channel and looking forward to catching everything..😉

I was able to get some gravel down for a work area but then the rains came and that part of the property is STILL holding water because it's been raining every few days. I need a whole month of drought before i'll be able to get things finished up over there due to the mud and standing water. This was all SUPPOSED to have been done last year but the weather has just screwed me at every turn. I've got 4 project vehicles all awaiting some work.

In Junkyard Mook's "Camping AdVANture - Northern Minnesota" video, they explore the junkyard at J&J's Recycling in Lutsen, Minnesota; one of their favorite finds was a nice Autocar Diesel truck in quite good condition; maybe you could get some parts off that one. :D
Been looking up these trucks as don't know anything about them, now appreciate especially the history, would look great when restored, I built a roof over my containers, I ran the roof completely over the containers and put metal fascia on with guttering all plumbed properly 100% dry, I put a wall on the ends level to the height of the container so stops a fair bit of wind blown rain coming in the ends.
I can understand and relate to not being able to work on projects due to the cold weather. Tis a shame about the wood. I love old wood beams. I wouldn’t call it a junkyard, how about a salvage area. That implies that you’re salvaging some of the antiques.🤩 Happy New Year! I like the fact that you want to put the Autocar back into working condition. That’s how I feel about my REO. Keep it coming! 🧐
Geez and I thought I was bad with too many projects all at once. I'm redoing my basement, working on a 1988 Ford F250 diesel project truck in my driveway (weather conditions permitting), gathering supplies I need to redo my upstairs bathroom, and planning to paint my house exterior in the spring. You got a lot of stuff on your plate.
...great video....you are full of ambition/dreams....I would re-prioritize then burn, sell and scrap as much as you can and un-bury myself with projects to make the bigger dreams come true !
Id like to think my priorities are straight. The only think I’ve spent any time on that isn’t a necessity Is the autocar. Everything Else is essential. Thanks for watching!
I had the same problem with my horn on my 55KW. Eventually I got the horn cleaned out and now it sings just like it did when it was new. I know of a few old but solid A-cars sitting in my neighbor's field. If you need a parts I'll see if he'd want to sale anything. For your future shop floor. If you've got a place that you can get crushed concrete or growled up asphalt. That stuff is awesome compared to 3/4-1" rock for a nice and solid base to work on.
I had a property once I let get away from me storing a lot of future projects on also. I finely made a list of what I wanted to clean up and I would find time to do one thing on the list each month. That way an over whelming job got done . I might do a couple things off the list if time allowed. The best part of of these cleaning projects is that once you see your progress it makes it easy to keep going. Getting started is always the hardest part. Enjoy the content 👍
Too bad about the 1991 pickup rotting away. I've got a 1991 Chevy S10 parked in my garage. I crank it up monthly and run it on the roads to warm it up to operating temp. Keeps everything lubricated. 450,000+ miles on it. Rebuilt motor. Runs fine!
Agree with you about the working on stuff in the mud / cold / frozen. done a lot of that in my time. It certainly takes the shine off doing it. Like your trucks and equipment, and looking forward to gradually doing the Autocar, and the rest of the church. Like the container w/shop, not seen one before, (don't think we have them here in U.K. might be wrong on that.) Still like the white Ford !!
For the wiring in the Autocar I think you might be able to get an entire harness from Painless Wiring. It won't be specific to the truck but will have all the wire and relays for lights and other electrical accessories. As long as its sat, it would probably save you a lot of time and headaches to just yank all the electrical out of the truck and replace it. I love old trucks like that and it would be a fun truck to get up and working again.
Super great video!!! Thanks for the slow walk around and all the explanations, this is so wonderful!!!!! Love the truck already! Thanks. Greets from the Netherlands, this is Jur
Nice update 👍 just a thought it looks like the ground slopes from the red container to the grey one at the back if you drove your truck from one side to the other any water coming down the hill would divert away rather than through the barn shop 👍 quick fix for now
If I could catch a few days without rain I’d just cut a ditch with the dozer but it last constantly raining or snowing so it’s all mud. Thanks for watching!!
Your project list makes me feel better about mine. I also have many plans that got delayed or set aside because of needing to work a full time job. But now I’m finally making serious progress. No job because of the virus.
You made two comments that sum up my life rather well. (While showing all the old farm implements that you have no use for, much like my collection) "I couldn't just let them go to the scrap yard, I have a problem" and " putting something out in the woods and forgetting about it for a year or two at a time( or five or ten or twenty) isn't good for them.
Almost worth just tarpping it until you get the closed in shop up and a few metal working things in there [small bending brake, sand bag for hammering, bead roller]. lol Fun and affordable at estate sales for projects down the road in life.
Take your time on the Autocar. I just got a "farm-abandoned-fresh" '55 International R-160 COE hay hauler in a slightly better condition... not wet. I'm currently trying to get the title into my name BEFORE I'll do any work on it. I'm in the same boat when it comes to a "rolling restoration". I view it more like just fixing the truck. A restoration is when you fix to a near perfect condition as when it rolled out of the factory. I suggest that when you get it running pressure wash everything and take it to a car show before going into the more major repairs. That beast will get so much attention but, you will be providing a glimpse of how it was back in the day. Lastly, all of that barn wood does have value. People will pay for that patina. Also as you build your channel you will probably start shooting segments and comments indoors like in an office. That weathered wood can be attached to the wall behind you for a neat background. So don't kick yourself for not making a barn. Just repurpose the wood and the barn can live on some more.
Love your vids mate, may I suggest you use corrugated plastic sheeting on the sides of the shed. That way you get the benefits of closure but you also get a lot more ambient light. 🇦🇺
You got more project then carter has liver pills, drier warmer weather is just a few short months away, Good video like your drone stuff, like others said Haters will hate pay them no nevermind.
@@DieselCreek A set of vintage chocks would be another talking point for when ya stop by the farmers co-op for supplies LoL, I don't think an orange cone was needed for a liability during that era
The Ford Brazilian engines we had in dump trucks all shook like hell at idle and in daily use they all blew up before 90,000 with good care and a friend at the dealer told me they all did. What was funny is ford used to advertise you can now finally own your ford truck with a ford built diesel engine in it but they never said the engine was made in brazil for your American made truck.
They have a bad rap, I’m not saying it’s a great motor or anything.... but this one runs smooth and hasn’t ever let me down...not much in the power department but runs good. Thanks for watching!
Hello Matt, seeing you drain your Autocar fuel tank, how about pouring some of that old Diesel over the Winch on your Komatsu (not sure of the spelling) dozer, to stop the wire from rusting, would like to be helping with the Truck would be really into it. I helped to restore a 1939 series B FORD Flatbed, it was used around our valley's, carrying seed grain and Farm equipment to all the way out places. All wooden cab, with a little bit of tin here and there. Being a Joiner I helped to rebuild the cab and back. Best wishes, Geoff Lewis, Wales, UK 🏴🏴🏴
Lots of real-estate on the exhaust manifold, throw a turbo on it, some of those old n/a cummins had piston sprayers, so the pistons won't cook, tweak the fuel pump a bit to help out, nice useable power, doesn't have to be a hotrod
Junk yard? Yeah we;ll one man's garbage, is another man's gold,...so I've been told. Good projects coming up, so make sure you keep us informed, please.
I love the patina, if it was my truck I would try to weld up the bottom of the cab and leave the rest as is, only rust proofing it and restore the engine and running gear.
If I’m not misstaken the cabs remained mostly unchanged from the 50s (60s and 70s. So you could find a wrecked (60s or 70s Acar and possibly use the cab. The body lines are the same only change im aware of was door handle location in the mid 70s and the dashboard
Diesel Creek your best bet would probably be ATHS ( American truck historical society). Those guys will be a big help with technical data Old manuals sourcing parts etc....
speaking of gravel you could also put road base in there as ive heard will solidify nicely with a good clay content . i have an impound yard with that on it and its nice in the winter, just my 2 cents
Take that dozer and cut some drainage grade at end of the barn roof🤠✅! Rubber and brakes, pressure wash and drive that bad girl! A lot of stuff will just shake into shape🌵
Het matt i know thier is a marmon club for those trucks to trade or help look for parts for those. Try and see if thier is the same thing for old autocars aswell. Might just be were you could find another cab or atleast maybe a good back of a ceb in that area !
@@DieselCreek i see why the channel is called diesel creek lol you got a river and ya love diesels cant go wrong with that i enjoy this channel very much and hope it will one day be your solo future job lol
I had a 1954 Reo with that same parking brake system. What I did was swap out the old maxi cans with spring brake cans on the rear axle and plumbed in the valve and air lines it was not hard to do.

Yes I got started young... this isn’t even all of it lol Thanks for watching!
Looks like Roscoe likes hanging with the boss. In that kind of weather, what you need to worry about and protect are his paws.
I like your video. Simple and to the point. Good job. Very interesting.. it “ peeked my curiosity”
Thanks for watching!
I may eventually continue the peak over the boxes to a lean-to on either side. Thanks for watching!
Awesome! Does the reo have the same cab as mine? I know some did. Thanks for watching!!
And that was just the list at the farm! thanks for watching!!!
...great video....you are full of ambition/dreams....I would re-prioritize then burn, sell and scrap as much as you can and un-bury myself with projects to make the bigger dreams come true !
Dan Fuchs are bigger necessarily better? C' mon, you sound like your five years old
Id like to think my priorities are straight. The only think I’ve spent any time on that isn’t a necessity Is the autocar. Everything Else is essential. Thanks for watching!
Time is always short... & projects always mount... I know the feeling.
It’s all about little victories! Just gotta keep chewing on em! Thanks for watching
reminds me of that old truck in the movie "DUEL" one of spielberg's first big films. I like that patina paint.
Love that movie!
Haha I own that dvd! Awesome truck..Almost ALL internal dialogue but pretty DECENT movie nonetheless.
Sylvester stallone drove an autocar semi in over the top
I had the same problem with my horn on my 55KW. Eventually I got the horn cleaned out and now it sings just like it did when it was new. I know of a few old but solid A-cars sitting in my neighbor's field. If you need a parts I'll see if he'd want to sale anything. For your future shop floor. If you've got a place that you can get crushed concrete or growled up asphalt. That stuff is awesome compared to 3/4-1" rock for a nice and solid base to work on.
I’m definitely looking for a good cab if he has one!!! That would be awesome! You can email me, dieselcreek@gmail.com
You don't want a trailer queen, you just want a good ol work truck! I get it!
Yep! Thanks for watching!
I definitely agree with that! Thanks for watching!
Man you make me feel lazy as hell with what all you have going on. I respect you and everything you're accomplishing. Keep it up brother.
Too bad about the 1991 pickup rotting away. I've got a 1991 Chevy S10 parked in my garage. I crank it up monthly and run it on the roads to warm it up to operating temp. Keeps everything lubricated. 450,000+ miles on it. Rebuilt motor. Runs fine!
You were right. I love that truck 😁👍🏼
I screwed up and didnt even give you the right link.... heres that trucks first start in 15 years ruclips.net/video/N8NNOFASGsk/видео.html
I think im gonna name her Gretta hehe
Just found your videos and page, love every minute! Keep up the good work and love seeing the autocar project
Thank you! There will be plenty of the old girl once the weather improves, I’ve been busy getting the church sealed up right now. Thanks for watching!
For your building you could use greenhouse plastic for a temporary shelter to keep the wind and weather out.. it comes in large rolls
Thanks for watching!
I just hope you don't let to many projects go the same way my friend.
Yes all the wiring is cloth coated and will need replacing. Thanks for watching!!
Super great video!!! Thanks for the slow walk around and all the explanations, this is so wonderful!!!!! Love the truck already! Thanks.
Greets from the Netherlands, this is Jur
Thanks for watching!
@@DieselCreek 🇳🇱🎉👍🏻👍🏻
Nice update 👍 just a thought it looks like the ground slopes from the red container to the grey one at the back if you drove your truck from one side to the other any water coming down the hill would divert away rather than through the barn shop 👍 quick fix for now
If I could catch a few days without rain I’d just cut a ditch with the dozer but it last constantly raining or snowing so it’s all mud. Thanks for watching!!
Your project list makes me feel better about mine. I also have many plans that got delayed or set aside because of needing to work a full time job. But now I’m finally making serious progress. No job because of the virus.
That is one benefit of it!
"i miss the truck every day" oh really, judging by the bullet holes you hit it at least a few times ;) ;)
It was a good place to line up tin cans lol Thanks for watching!
Every bullet hole is a memory
matthew demaster ya.... those were there when I was still driving it too lol
Sad but true lol Thanks for watching!!!
Almost worth just tarpping it until you get the closed in shop up and a few metal working things in there [small bending brake, sand bag for hammering, bead roller]. lol Fun and affordable at estate sales for projects down the road in life.
I’d like to get a small brake, maybe an English wheel. I’ve got just about everything else. Thanks for watching!
Yes there’s still good material I just hate that I wasted it. Also the truck does run! Check out the video on my channel! Thanks for watching!!
Love your vids mate, may I suggest you use corrugated plastic sheeting on the sides of the shed. That way you get the benefits of closure but you also get a lot more ambient light. 🇦🇺
I was thinking of adding some panels of it in there when I fix it. Thanks!
There is a lot more things that I saw in far I'm amazed I didn't see it yet
That truck is beauty
I’m a big fan! Thanks for watching!!
Put those old farm implements up on top of the seacans, out of the road, outta sight ,future projects
best of luck to rebuild that monster (autocar) i want to see that "baby" rolling down the streets :) . can not wait to see another video
its gonna be a fun project!
It`s look like "Andrew Camarata. The Begining" )) you are cool maaan) "Privet" from Siberia!
glad to have ya! im a big fan of andrews!
You got more project then carter has liver pills, drier warmer weather is just a few short months away, Good video like your drone stuff, like others said Haters will hate pay them no nevermind.
I don’t haha, Thanks for watching!!
I love watching your video's especially about this autocar :-) please please don't give up on it :-)
More to come!
A set of chocks would be a priority for that truck, just say'n
Maybe eventually, but right now she ain’t going anywhere without lots of motivation lol thanks for watching!!
@@DieselCreek
A set of vintage chocks would be another talking point for when ya stop by the farmers co-op for supplies
LoL, I don't think an orange cone was needed for a liability during that era
...enjoyed this video, Matt...
You have some perty cool old stuff there. Lots of work to do. Thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching!
My first thing would be to get rid of the mud and then a 4-wall big building.
They will all be posted here for your viewing pleasure! Thanks for watching!
Can’t wait to see the progress continue on it. She sounded good on the other video. Keep up the good work 💯💪🏻
Thanks for watching!
I love the patina, if it was my truck I would try to weld up the bottom of the cab and leave the rest as is, only rust proofing it and restore the engine and running gear.
its too rough for my taste. a good rat rod look but thats not the direction I want for this... Thanks for watching!!!
If I’m not misstaken the cabs remained mostly unchanged from the 50s (60s and 70s. So you could find a wrecked (60s or 70s Acar and possibly use the cab. The body lines are the same only change im aware of was door handle location in the mid 70s and the dashboard
I believe you are correct. I need to find one from out west! Thanks for watching!!
Diesel Creek your best bet would probably be ATHS ( American truck historical society). Those guys will be a big help with technical data
Old manuals sourcing parts etc....
speaking of gravel you could also put road base in there as ive heard will solidify nicely with a good clay content . i have an impound yard with that on it and its nice in the winter, just my 2 cents
Everything I do I put down geo fabric first then 4 inch rock then 2a cap it packs like concrete Thanks for watching!!
Take that dozer and cut some drainage grade at end of the barn roof🤠✅! Rubber and brakes, pressure wash and drive that bad girl! A lot of stuff will just shake into shape🌵
All in due time! Too wet to do anything around here currently
Diesel Creek, look forward to your progress 🌵🤠🌵
I'd keep the split-rims; they're a big part of the truck's character. You'll not be travelling fast enough to notice much imbalance :-)
Het matt i know thier is a marmon club for those trucks to trade or help look for parts for those. Try and see if thier is the same thing for old autocars aswell. Might just be were you could find another cab or atleast maybe a good back of a ceb in that area !
Pretty cool how you flew the drone over the creek!
I did an even better one this summer over a much larger creek we swim in on vacation! I may work it into some openings soon! Thanks for watching!
Yes I’m planning on trying to upgrade these as well. Thanks for watching!!
Hello from a warm and sunny Western Australia.Keep going mate, your doing okay!
Thanks for watching!!!
I learned of a place in Delaware that will pay for tires by the ton only, because they grind them up and use them in playgrounds for bedding.
someone showed me in other countries they put them under the roads so im going to do that at my farm!
Take your time and make it right.
That truck is gonna take some time. Not a week and a half like they do on "TV"
Absolutely. She’s worth the effort. Thanks for watching!
I bet it’s beautiful there in late spring everything leafed out! 😊
If you watch the last video in the shipping container shop series you can see the leaves!! Thanks for watching!
You got some good deals on some of the equipment. would love to have a "farm" to do what you do. Keep up the good work!
