    I’m a nurse and I try to look my best everyday I come into work. I feel like people will naturally judge you based of appearance which sucks but whatevs. I always think “If I look like I can’t take care of myself, what makes others think I can take care of them.” Of course I’m not going all out with hair done and glam makeup but just enough to look presentable. If I go into work feeling good about myself, I truly perform better!

      Marcus Aurelius of Rome was right. the human mind was meant to be busy. busy = progress = happiness in growth. idleness is terrible for the human mind. the trick is to find the right ratio/balance for your personality and person to make it work and put you at your highest potential actualization.

    THIS IS SO GREAT TO HEAR! I work dayside/early evenings as an anchor and I was so upset when I woke up for morning show anchoring at 1:30 a.m. and then was so mad that I was so critical of myself for looking tired on camera. This industry takes such a toll on how you feel about your appearance. Thank you for talking about this Clancy!!

    My daughter is in theater and you might try thinking of putting your work makeup on as if you're putting stage makeup on. In other words it's not to beautify, it's to make it so that you're more "visible" on camera. So in that way, you don't self identify with the make up and don't need to spend as much time thinking about how you, as an individual, looks. It keeps it seperate from your identity if that makes sense

      If you think about it, it's our imperfections as humans that make us beautiful. I'm autistic as well as having to face daily challenges in time management and dealing with inflammatory eczema. Love this. The problem with “perfection”, is that everyone’s idea of it is different. All any of us can be is the best human we can be. The more focus one puts on it the less they become what they want to be

    • @ClancyBurkeX
      @ClancyBurkeX  4 года назад +4

      YESS!!!^

    • @defaultworkouts
      @defaultworkouts 4 года назад

      flip side of that is when you stop pursuing perfection, that is what you get. shit mediocrity. perfection makes us come close to it. to want perfection is retarded. to want to pursue it is genius. BIG difference there. the "problem" is that people cannot understand this simple difference - pursuit vs. actuality. you don't need to actually be there BUT you need to practice trying to be there. this is how students get straight A grades in school. imagine if they did not think this way? everyone would just give up when school got tough after the 3rd grade. Clancy needs to read what I wrote here and take this simple bit of advice. pursuit of perfection is a POSITIVE thing. it isn't something negative. it has made mike Jordan into Michael Jordan and into a billionaire. it has made Steve Jobs, a college dropout, into a billionaire (yes he is dead, blah blah). you should demand perfection.

    Clancy,
    I'm a morning TV news reporter in Charleston, WV. This is my first job out of college. I came across your channel while in college and think you're an amazing storyteller. You take the viewer to the story. I've been on the morning show now for eight months after moving from weekends and have found it to be VERY difficult being put together (physically, mentally and emotionally). I now mainly watch your videos to encourage me to a better version of myself professionally. I am in this vicious cycle of bad habits that I just can't seem to break. I am always tired, I wake up late for work, I barely do my hair and makeup (which management has brought up to me), I don't consistently setup stories in advance, I put in long days and then I'll go home, nap for three hours, then be wired and not sleep much going into my shift. I barely workout anymore and I used to 3-5 times a week, and the amount of money I spend eating out because I don't make time to pack lunches has created quite the debt for me. I even started taking caffeine pills so I can have energy while at work. I DO have good weeks occasionally, but I want to consistently have good weeks. I'm at a loss, I feel burnt out, but I love my job so much at the same time and would like to enjoy it without feeling like garbage. Is the morning shift just not meant for everyone? You handle it like a BOSS. They say if you want it bad enough, you'll make it happen - but it's easier said than done. If you have any advice for this struggling fellow AMnewser, I would love to hear what you have to say :)

    • @laurastr1
      @laurastr1 4 года назад +1

      Haley Kosik I think you have to be extremly disiplined, organized and high energy for the morning shift. Clancy is disiplined including her sleep schedule. You can do it too! That said, sleeping 6pm to 2am is not for everyone. Maybe you would be happier working a later shift?

    • @haleykosik
      @haleykosik 4 года назад

      @@laurastr1 Every shift has its pros and cons in the TV industry, but yes, I was happier when I was on weekends working dayside. However, I have told management that I'm willing to stay on mornings until there is an opportunity for me to be moved dayside M-F. Thanks for the encouragement :) So far I'm sticking with my New Year resolutions I have set for myself to live a better, happier life!!

I was a tv reporter right out of school and wore my hair straight and I couldn’t do it anymore. So I left and went to radio. In terms of books, you should check out “The Four Agreements” and the “Fifth Agreement.” Super easy reads, but helpful to reiterate what you already know but phrases it in a way that makes you change your thought process and actions.

    Hey Clancy! I’m a senior studying sports media, and my goal is to be a sports reporter. I’m so happy you mentioned the natural hair movement in the TV news industry!!! As a black woman entering this field in the near future, it can get discouraging to hear stories about black news anchors/reporters getting fired just because of their natural hair! I love switching my hair whenever I can. I get scared when making my demo reel to make sure my hair looks the same ALL the time. Thank you for expressing how you feel about this!! Hopefully, this dynamic changes! Love your videos, btw!! Great motivator for me!

    thank you so much for saying that part of “looks are not important” segment in your video. as i’ve said before, i aspire to someday be a news anchor such as yourself, but i’ve always been so cautious and insecure of how and what i look like. i’ve always thought to myself that “oh no one will ever hire me to be a reporter because i’m so ugly and un-photogenic and no one would want to see me on their tv screens every single day.” but hearing what you said, really did move me. it inspired me even more to pursue this career that i am passionate about, and to work even harder to achieve it. i really do try not to care and take it personally of what anyone says or think about me, but it’s just hard sometimes... but thank you Clancy. thank you so much. i’m a perfectly imperfect person, and i don’t care anymore. watching your videos aspires me to just be me, because (and this may sound cliche) but there’s no other person that’s like me in the entire world, and i should be proud of that. each and everyone of us is unique, and we should just all love and embrace all our differences. ❤️

    Love the real talk at the beginning of the video Clancy! I also love watching you in general because I'm a reporter as well - I work for a newspaper in Germany though, but I love my job just as much as you do. I really appreciate that looks aren't really that important when you work for a newspaper (in comparison to TV). I also feel that the news industry in Germany is not as superficial in terms of looks as it is in the US - like yes, anchors are usually pretty women that wear lots of makeup, but the reporters really don't have to look as polished. But that's just a general observation.
    Apart from that, you are definitely very pretty naturally and don't need all that makeup! I used to never leave the house without makeup because I felt really ugly without it, but at some point I just got so angry that we as women are supposed to wear makeup (which means a lot of time, money, and waste) and men don't, so I decided to only wear makeup occasionally. At first, I felt weird and uncomfortable, but I got really used to it and (most of the time) like how I look like without makeup. And when I do put on makeup, it is because I WANT to (not because I feel that I HAVE to) and I really enjoy it. So yeah, sorry for the rambling, just some insights on my personal beauty journey :D

    Best comment you made: "Don't share your life story to someone who is trying to sell you something!" So funny and so true. As for obsessions with looks. I think the root for most of us who care too much about that is the fear that we won't be relevant and wanted and admired if we don't subscribe to a certain standard of what our culture thinks is beautiful. I think if we put it into perspective it helps. Yes take care as best we can with this body. But we are more than just a body. We are a spirit. We live in a body and we have a soul (mind , will, emotions). Keeping it all balanced is the key to health and contentment. We have to nourish all the different facets of who we are. I love your honesty. You really àre a breath of fresh air! .

Your personality shines through and being you is your most beautiful aspect and something I really hope I can do one day. I seriously look up to you so much and don’t think you will ever understand. Thank you for dedication and talking about the importance of acceptance.

    Hi Clancy,
    I don’t think I’ve commented on your video/s before but I just wanted to say that I love you and your work. You’re awesome inside and out.
    I’m all the way from Brisbane, Australia and no idea how I found your channel but I’ve been watching it for a long time now.
    I understand how you feel and you explain so well. I’m 23 years old and work for an airline here and feel the pressure to be “perfect”. We have so many rules on how we have to dress and look everyday and I’m often awake at 2am putting a full face of make up and doing my hair. Makes me feel better knowing there’s others out there too.
    Hope you have a good day :)

    This is interesting to me, because I wish that I cared more about my looks. I think its incredible to see people put effort into their looks because that's what self-care looks like to me. So, coming from someone from the opposite direction, vanity is not all that bad! This reminds me of the quote "to love fashion is to love living". But like you said, there's an extreme to anything, especially when it becomes detrimental to your mental health.

    Clancy! Girl, puleeese.... you continue to get prettier and prettier physically on camera, However, you are just as pretty inside because you are so raw and honest with your audience. So many people are captivated by your honesty and your natural beauty. You’re on camera every day and it’s normal to make yourself look good. You invite us into your personal life and we see you with and without make up. We’re looking at you and we know you’re not a vain person at all.
    Thank you for being you❤️❤️!!

    The Holistic Psychologist has a journal out for free on her website about future self work, sounds like something you're looking for! She talks a lot about healing inner child issues, which can come out in numerous ways including issues with appearance and everything you're touching on. Working on ourselves is always a good thing! Also, idk if this will make you feel better, but I was told when I was in my early 20's that when I got to my 30's that something majorly shifts and that self work we do isn't as hard especially when it comes to our appearance. And now I am about to be 30 and its like magically happening. Chalk it up to a decade of hard work, or just being over it and not caring about others opinions, but everyone was right! And now I feel like its just a growing thing. So don't stress too much, you're beautiful inside and out, make up or no make up (seriously your skin is gorgeous, coming from someone with cystic acne!) and you can play around with make up too and its really all OK.

    I’m glad that you are having a self awareness epiphany about your negative self talk. You said something in one of your latest videos that was something to the effect of calling yourself disgusting for not doing either your hair and makeup and I remember it making me feel so uncomfortable- you are such a gorgeous girl and you are funny and full of life. You’ve got to practice positive comments about yourself and it will eventually change your mentality. Like self positivity mantras each morning when you’re getting ready. I know there’s a lot of pressure being a woman on tv and on RUclips but that negative self talk isn’t healthy for you, or your viewers. ❤️

    I work at a bank and although the pressures of keeping a certain appearance may not be as much as a news anchor, it's still there. I'm not the type to wear much (if any) makeup, I have people tell me I look sick or tired when I don't wear any. My boss has told me many times that people judge off first impression which includes how you present yourself (knowing the whole time she is talking about makeup specifically). It bothers me that women feel this pressure to have to put on makeup when it should be their choice to express themselves or not and not have to worry about maintaining an image because of what others may think. I'm glad that you are trying to care less about your appearance Clancy cus in the end, people will remember you for how you make them feel, not cus of your appearance. It's still normal to care what you look like, just not to the point where it's a primary focus.

    Honestly, I connected with this video so much, because I'm 14 and at school & on social media, it gives me so much pressure to put my "best self" out there (this is in terms of looks). This video made me realize how much I care about how I look even if I'm just walking out of my house to a nearby grocery store. It sucks because I feel like I'll be judged if I don't look half as good as every other person at school, a lot of this comes from pass kind of "trauma" almost, I've been bullied since I was really little and a few of the comments I get are about how I look and it has made me become very very insecure. One time I wore my hair on a middle parting and even my closest friends asked me "whats wrong with your hair today?" "I think you look better with your hair on a left parting". I hope that I'll just stop caring as much.

    I was obsessed with doing my makeup and my hair to the point where I would bring my hair straighteners|makeup everywhere and use the when ever I could. I would never go out without makeup and I just felt so controlled to look as best as I could. I stop doing my hair and stopped doing my makeup and I feel so free and I wish I did it sooner. My skin has improved and my hair has grown so much and its only been half a year.

    I’m late watching this and I normally don’t comment but I’m a journalism student and as a kid, I thought about heading towards the TV reporter route but over the years, I decided that behind-the-scenes stuff is more my style mainly because I don’t think my self confidence could take the on-screen reporter lifestyle. And then this year, I watched MissRepresentation (it’s on Netflix) and I recommend watching it. It really shows the scrutiny that TV news reporters (it talks about other stuff now) are put under!

    Guided journal I've used and liked is called 'The 6 Minute Diary' -- it has a few short questions every morning and evening including writing what you are grateful for, what you want to accomplish, what went well, and what you want to improve. Also has some monthly reflection pages and other stuff. It really does a good job of explaining the reasons behind every part of the journal too, which I like. :)
