I wasn’t working because my parents wanted me to focus on doing the best I could in uni. I payed for my own expenses but lived completely rent free. It’s not a big deal. I have social anxiety and some jobs have made me uncomfortable over the years. Before I quit, I always had something else lined up because having no money is more terrifying than being at a job that gives me anxiety. I legit applied at Amazon in a moment of desperation because they’ll hire anyone with a pulse and they paid well enough. I then had a manager there try to tell me that I was not allowed a paid 15 minute break and I had to go to HR about it. I still didn’t quit there until I lined up a job at FedEx, who also will hire anyone with a pulse and was a much better job. I’d feel so super vulnerable if I were living off a guy with no legal responsibility to do so. Now, I’m a power plant operator, which is really good money and I only have a handful of guys I must interact with on a daily basis and no public to deal with. Dream job.

I do work some late hours and summer school too. So my pay for the year is pretty low. But he is willing to do more so I can be on the same schedule as our children. May pay is for the fun. Vacations, kids sports, doing fun stuff as a family and any extra goes into investments. It's OK for one person to take on more if needed. My hot take on this one is to NOT sell the car and to pay it off like Caleb suggested after taking out the credit card debt. Refinancing the loan isn't going to help either since I just bought a new car and my interest rate was 7% with having a credit score well north of 800 so they may not get much better than what they have already.

I mean, if y'all want to be technical, "checking's" still works grammatically. Checking "owns" the account so an apostrophe is just indicative of the possession. Like Larry has a car so it's Larry's (in reference to the car).
Such a weird peeve to have, especially when you understand what the customer is referring to......

I don't think trading in the car or trying to sell is the best idea. That car with low miles is pretty reliable. It does get to me every time Caleb say "find a mechanic you trust". Easier said than done. Usually end up with whoever is biggest/close. That with a cheap car can turn into a money sink very quick.
Also, $260 a month in car insurance? I would look at that. Either/and no deductible and very high coverage that probably is not needed.

Depends on what was said and how her workplace dealt with it. Favored the customer even though they were obviously wrong, abusive, and out of control? Hell, yeah. Supported her and said, “That woman was totally out of line. It’s not your fault. We’re sorry you had to deal with it. But that’s retail sometimes. We’ve all been there.
That would have acknowledged her distress and the fact that the customer was a jerk, while admitting that this can be a fact of life in retail. It would cost MANAGEMENT nothing to be supportive and honest. She probably wouldn’t have quit and they wouldn’t have had to hire and train a new person.
Managers? If you expect hard work, excellent service, and dependability? Support your people. If you don’t, don’t be surprised if they leave.
