How much of that can be attributed to good decisions and habits vs people's brains being wired differently? Curious what other people think.

The others often try to sabotage that because they don't want to be confronted with the reality that they, too, could lose the weight if they wanted to. Same thing for finances. Your friends don't want to be more responsible but if you are, that makes them uncomfortable because they have to think about their own poor choices.

Keep watching but, to start with, the most important things are:
      - don't accrue debt, compounding interest is financial death; kill any unnecessary expenses until death is tackled
      - it's tempting to spend money to enjoy life when young but that's the best time to start saving/investing; keep costly fun to a bare minimum and save like crazy
      - diversify and build contingencies
      - assets that make you money are where wealth is at, side hustles and the like will never make you rich unless you can reliably grow that to business making millions (in which case it shouldn't be a side hustle)

I work in Staffing and am always working with people who don't know how to handle money & budget. Had a young lady in 2023 who lost 3 jobs through us from 2022-2023 and often would complain about the money she wasn't making, but would take these vacations all the time during the probation period of her hiring process.
One day a company we had her placed at reached out letting us know she is having attendance issues & were just made aware she plans on going on VK at the end of the month & that VK on top of the attendance issues would lose her the job. I called her & let her know that this is going to lose her another job and the immaturity I witnessed was insane. "I gotta LIVE MY LIFE!" was the excuse, but I reminded her how close she was to losing her apartment (admitted by her when we gave her the 3rd chance to succeed) and she didn't care. She lost the job, we terminated her contract right after.

I think the "can I have some budget for eating out?" question is legitimate, Caleb. You can't take someone who's been spending a crapton of money eating out and tell them they have to stop completely for the next X number of years, in my opinion it's unrealistic and it's just going to lead to them doing it anyway. And once they start breaking the budget to eat out it will make it easier to justify breaking it in the future for other things like vacations.
I feel like allocating even just 100$ a month to entertainment right off the bat is probably more sustainable and would lead to better compliance. Whether she uses those 100$ to eat out or saves them for a vacation is up to her, but imo you NEED some budget for just enjoyment.
I personally went years without taking a vacation and almost never going out, but most people couldn't do that when they can see the money in their account and they feel like they have it.
The American system with 401ks etc is great for people who can ACTUALLY think long term, but I think it's actually very detrimental for the average financially illiterate person compared to what we have here in Italy (where the state just forcibly takes 40% out of your salary and ostensibly sets it aside for your pension).

    • @melynn44
      @melynn44 Год назад +7

      Agreed. It's like dieting.
It is much more sustainable to eat in moderation, and to be able to go out to eat one or twice a month. Than to just go cold turkey on everything. I know this from experience. I have had much more success with eating what I want to eat, in moderation, than cutting things off entirely.
Like you said, it is just unrealistic, and makes it that much more likely to break, and harder to come back from breaking.

I just started watching a month ago. I am in no debt but was really scared I was going to be. I have made myself a budget and opened a TFSA for myself, got mint to track and hold myself accountable. I make more coffee at home, I have two credit cards but I never spend more than I have because of the budget and I am so appreciative also to a good friend who showed me this channel and also helped me create my budget.
I love what you do for people and I hope whoever comes on the show eventually understands the importance of finances. I am by no means a professional and am still sorta financially illiterate but am much more confident.
Also like to mention I am 23 in October and feel like I’ll be on track with my savings in the next few months. Thank you again Caleb!❤

She thinks her salary justifies reckless spending across every category, but it's just about the only positive aspect in her financial profile. I'm genuinely scared for her.

She seems doomed to me, just her responses to Caleb. I doubt that she'll take any of his advice.

I think she will. She will rewatch this and start to plug in to personal finance

She won’t stick to not eating out or getting her nails done also will deffo go on both holidays. 100%! She’s unfortunately like a lot oh her generation and younger being influenced by social media influencers as this is the way you should live your life. . It’s such a shame. I just don’t have hope of her sticking to your fantastic budget. I hope she learns from your influence. 👍🏻👏

I fully disagree with Caleb always suggesting Roth 401k’s. Reducing your taxes now by utilizing a traditional 401k is very valuable. There are so many ways in retirement to reduce your income and therefore taxes while withdrawing from the 401k

Caleb’s lack of geography knowledge shocked me. New York to Nashville is a solid 12 hour drive away 😂

Out of the three places Austin, Houston, and New York the farthest is New York. The closest is Austin which she already flew to.

It's not that bad. I have driven 16hr days on trips. For me, I would rather drive so I have a car to move around. Except NY.

I notice that Caleb always says "give yourself a score, zero out of ten" 11:53, I know everyone knows he means "give yourself a score, on a scale from 0 to 10" but it's just funny to me because it always sounds like he's giving them a 0/10 verdict

At this point it doesn't hurt to ask why people came to your show. I feel like some come for promo their own business and some to show off their income (this episode).

An emergency fund when you own your own home is essential! We had a single tree fall in our front yard during a storm. Trees falling in the yard aren't covered by insurance. One tree cost $1,400 to have cut up and hauled off. Appliances break all the time and because they are now made to break down sooner, you'll be buying appliances more often than you think. HVAC, sump pumps, plumbing, electrical, roofs etc all break at some point or need to be replaced.

Caleb, you're awesome. Would love to see you do a financial audit of yourself! Would love to learn your own situation and how you think about the pros and cons of your own financial world.
