A video that shows exactly what to do, with all the 'whys' behind the actions, and questions below that actually were answered instead of either being ignored or given a 'mechanical' or rote answer. I learned from both sections here because you took the time to give a darn. Thank you!
And it's because of this that I subscribed! :)
Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed the videos. I love being able to share what I have learned over the years.

Such a great video I have a table top drill and saw both water cooled. They were my mother's She went to school when I was young. I grew up watching her and learning. I love that hand held drill you have. I live on a cliff side. 1 day while weeding I found what looked like geode I was thrilled when I opened it up. I've been doing wire wrapping to make my pendants, I'm so glad I found your video. Thank you for sharing

Nice job!
Thank you, Linda!
Awesome video, ty!! Can you use a jeweler's saw to cut a piece of quarts down if it's "too long"?
What a great teacher. This was refreshing to watch. What kind of drill bit should I use?
The standard drill bit for drilling the small initial hole needed prior to burring for setting stones is referred to as a “twist” drill. The size depends on the stone size being set but is usually 1-1.5mm and is obtainable from any jewelry supply company and even your local hardware or home supply store may carry them.
Thank you! Very beautiful and informative video. I am ordering a stone from Etsy and I asked the owner to make a hole in it. He asked me in mm how big I wanted the hole to be. I thought tha 2mm is enough so that I can put a leather cord to it to wear it as a pendant. The stone is indigo Gabbro. What do you think, Shawn? I think it will work. Thank you.
Info i needed to know thanks.. cant wait to go drill my first hole
Glad to help!
Thank you master 💯✌️☀️
You are very welcome! Thanks for watching!
Can I use the diamond drill bits from the rotary tools for drilling obsidian?
thank you for this demonstration! can you tell us what kinda glue you used and where I could buy the drilling tool? Thank you! :)
Thanks for this video because I have lots of stones that I polished. My favorite is Tiger Eye will that survive this process??
So helpful, thank you! Does anyone know what kind of 5 minute epoxy is being used?
🙏 amazing
I just did this with petrified wood. i soak the stones in water and dish soap, scrubbed them, then soaked until i drilled. The soapy water worked very well.
Soaps / detergents will only screw up your tools and burs you should never use soaps while grinding with diamond bits even " liquid" ones all you need is just plain room temperature water not too cold and deffinatly not to warm ...also I dont suggest " "soaking" semipermable stones prior to grinding or carving due to it causing the higher probability of cleaving or fracturing the stone in question you only need to wet the surface area mainly to protect the diamond bit/ burr so it does not lose its cutting ability and to keep the stone cool so as not to change its temper / color ect
The cap pin being are there other adhesive that will work as well
Can you provide links or names of each tool and supply ?
Hi, thank you for your video! I have a question: Is it possible to drill a hole of 10cm - basically the whole length of the stone/crystal?
Hello what about if I wanna drill in the side to make a ring will I go by the same process? Thank u in advance 😊
This video is so great but these rocks dont seem to be tumbled. When working with smooth stones, is there a different method to use?
New subbie
Random but you got great skin. Thanks for this!
What is the brand of your favorite adhesive for this type of finding drilled into Amethyst?
Hello, thank you for this tutorial. Would you be able to share where I could purchase the findings caps?
Hi, Jane! Thank you for your question. There are many jewelry suppliers. Some only sell to you if you have a business
license and some will sell to the public and then have special prices for businesses. Just search the web for “jewelry findings” or “jewelry supplies” and you will see many listings. Rio Grande Jewelry Supply is one that we have used that sells to both the public and businesses.
What size drill bit did you use?
Shawn, how can I drill holes in garnet chips ? I really need your expertise, I have thousands. Thank you kindly
What is the best depth to drill into the tourmaline? is it based on the weight of the tourmaline vs the length of the post to secure it?
Where do u get these diamond bits? Do I need a special drill to use with these diamond bits?
Where do you get the pieces that sit inside the hole?
Hey! I was wondering what that drill bit is specifically (if you have a link fot it?) Also wondering where you get your gems/crystals? Do you know of any wholesalers?
Thank you for the video!
I’m not sure about them but there are a lot of groups on Facebook that auction off stones, sometimes in bulk. My mom has built her entire shop from doing that and getting to know miners, collectors and sellers.
Lover So much Super Gill🤑
What drill is this?? Thank you
How would I go about buying the drill itself and not the drill pieces?
"I'm gonna drill this one right in the water..."
*_drills it not in the water_*
Hi Shawn. Would like advice on how to thread tap a small Obsidian mantra bead that already has string holes all the way through the bead but needs a thread tap for 3.5mm. The bead is 12.1mmx8.1mm in size. The bead will be screwed onto a toggle switch as a DIY handle. The threaded part of the switch is 4.1mm in length by 3.5mm in diameter. Can this be done? Thank you.
I want to make my own dogs amber callors. Do I need a drill bit
Some stones take a lot longer to drill, like emerald, you need patience
Shawn, which brand of burrs do you like? I see several on amazon, but would like your opinion. ja
Where can i buy that set of diamond drills?
