I've never modded a car before, but this seems like a really fun project! I want to install this CarPlay Radio, purchase a rearview camera and hook it up to the screen, and maybe mod the steering wheel to add steering wheel controls and hook that up to the system? Not so sure about the last part... Let me know what you think!

I was really considering this from aliexpress but wasn't sure it would fit without rattling or would be very slow. Since it had BT you should be able to install a bunch of emulators, etc, the external USB would be great for a portable drive full of movies as well.

Love to see it! After watching the video of you installing one in your corolla, I got one for mine. I did a little more looking around and found another one from Joying. Everything about it is exactly the same as idoing as far as the price, quality, and software except it has a volume knob instead of touch controls.
@@BrandonStellmach Idoing was a very close second for me, I love them too! The only thing that won me over to Joying was the volume knob. These head units are definitely worth the upgrade, really beats having to spend money on a new car just to get carplay and a backup camera.

This is a cool video. The toyota matrix is an excellent car that will last a very long time if you keep basic maintenance done on it. I have a first generation 2004 with 134,000 miles , and going strong, very strong. These are great cars much better than a lot of new stuff today. I say get all you can done on it because it’s worth it and will last a long time. Very common for these cars to last 3000 miles if they are taken care of.❤🎉

@@stevengonzalez4512 when I had my Camry, I have a cheep front lip. I think I paid like 40-50$. It actually looked good. But was very hard to install because it was a universal 3 piece lip! But usually we will start with the cheap things and move to the nicer things if we really like it!

I noticed you have tweeters in the door by the side mirrors. This might suggest you do have an amplifier which would be under the front passenger seat I've got a 2003 Pontiac Vibe GT, and that's how it's equipped. I bought a different brand headunit on eBay and it uses the same new plastic bezel as yours, but they sent me the wrong harness, so I'll have to do some splicing too
If you do have an 03/04 xrs, you got the wrong bumper. That the facelift bumper for the later models. Also for the not being able to pass 7k rpms I recommend changing your lift bolts and cleaning the lift screen.
Yeah who ever owned this before me, it was in a small front end crash, and they look like they replaced it with the newer bumper because it was probably cheaper. But I plan on cleaning the loft screen soon and order loft bolts soon!
Honestly the radio has been great! Have had these radios in several of my cars and they have to be one of the best andriod radios I have had! Sound is better, screen resolution is great and bright. And it has better internals so there is no lag. I also don’t see any lag on wireless Apple CarPlay either!
I saw someone in the Pontiac Vibe FB group swap in a Lexus IS300 steering wheel w buttons, and someone swap in a Camry steering wheel into a same generation Corolla (which shares the same architecture as the Matrix/Vibe). So it is possible 😅
The parking light that gives the backlight didn’t work on mine I find it difficult to give volume in the evening the electrics technician didn’t do a good job 😢
The radio comes with a wire for the backup camera. And I had installed a backup camera on my 2009 corollas, which should be very similar. ruclips.net/video/yq0xF2cewZM/видео.html
That’s very strange, I would double check that all plugs have been put into the correct plug on the back of the radio. And make sure there is no connections that are broke as well.
For the 2005, you should be able to use the adapter that comes with the radio. Only reason to get the other harness is if you have a 2003 or 2004, as those had a GM harness and not a Toyota harness.
This radio will only work for 2003-2008. But I believe iDoing has a radio for the the second Gen matrix. If you have any questions, I would contact iDoing and send them a picture of your dash and they will help.

It was a little over $400 for everything. It’s a great head unit. With good internals! Compared to many of the cheaper ones you can find. I have been using the iDoing radios in all my cars for the past 3 years and they have been great! But I put the links in the description!
This radio is a great upgrade! I love it! As for the digital speedometer, it all depends on if you can read the speed with the OBD2 port. And if you can then you should be able to add some type of module to get digital speeds.

Awesome upgrade - looks good. 03-04 has submodel for regular Corolla. If you ever route USB to the blank on left dash section, I would like to see that. I've been searching for a USB adapter for my car. For the bottom of dash console, I think that would be a mini-glove box. 🤓

From what I understand. The 2003 and 2004 were the only ones that had a GM connector. All other model years should be a Toyota connector. So you should not need one.
My last radio they had infrared sensor that I bought an external steering wheel controller to control it, but when I bought this model I don't know where is the IR, maybe I bought the unfurl radio or sth. ^_^ have a nice day
It’s going to be slightly different for the 2010 matrix because it’s a different generation. But I do believe iDoing does sell one for your year matrix!
It really depends on the brand of head unit you are getting. I have had dasita in my Camry, with similar specs and the radio was very slow and always lagged. But then I put a Binize in my corolla with the same specs and it ran good. If you can try to get a brand that has good reviews for the Camry. I do say the iDoing radio I had in my Camry was great! But I believe that one was 4G and 64G.
They are a decent radio for the price. I have had many of the cheap $100 radios and they usually will last about and year and start giving issues. The Idoing Radios I have had for several years with no issues!
You think its crazy but if you keep investing 1-2k per year on this thing keeping it going, it will outlast and still be cheaper than anything you buy that is 10 years old or newer... why not keep it going? Mine is at 210k miles and shows no signs of stopping soon.
It’s much cheaper to spend a few hundred dollars on a new radio to get all the fancy things a new car has. Without having to buy a brand new car. Sure there might be some cheaper options. But this radio has really good internals and will last a long time.
I have one of those stereo for my matrix. The gps dongle goes to the front driver sode pillar. Install Karta offline gps and it works great.
That’s good to know, I typically use Apple CarPlay for GPS, so I don’t use the built in navigation.

Paint the dash, get a dash cam mirror with actual mirror screen like rexing M2, and get digital turn signal shoulder lights and your set

Curious how the screen looked in the sunlight? The one I have is not bright enough for the sun it's pretty hard to see at an angle.

Yes you can if you stream your phone to the screen! And there should be a setting in the radio to allow video to play while driving.

Dang that sucks, I would have who ever installed this take a look at the wires in the back and make sure everything is connected properly.

Well when I installed this in my car, I don’t have any external amp hooked up. Everything was good after wiring up the harness.

I do not have steering wheel controls. Because I have not seen any matrix with them on it.

I did this to but, my set up only cost $130. And dropped right in with no mods.
