    You can say what you want for me Paul Bostaph is a Master of drums. He is very tecnique and powerful, I really love his way of playing. Dave Lombardo was great of course but also Paul is a great drummer and much more tecnical. Of course with age things are not the same but critcize his way of playing his wrong.

      Paul much more technical? He can't even play double bass. It's so sloppy and weak. It's been that way for a long time, unfortunately. Dave's 57 years old. Go listen to his performances with Testament. His footwork is still solid and powerful, not to mention his fancy, dynamic handwork. No disrespect to Paul, I love his work on Divine. Perhaps you like that style better but overall as a musician and a live performer, he was never on Dave's level in regards to double bass, groove, dynamics, time-keeping, speed and consistency. Paul could never play Dave's complex drum fills (e.g. Ghost of War, Necrophiliac, Seasons etc.). Check out his work in Grip Inc. I'm not saying this to bag on Paul, I'm saying this as a pro level drummer myself who can play about 3 albums worth of Slayer note-for-note. Here's Dave outplaying Paul on Disciple ruclips.net/video/Vw8ItX7J-3Y/видео.html

      I agree with the sentiment of him being more technical. One only has to watch Dave play outside of slayer, and outside of thrash metal. He has chops for days. His background demands it. As for Paul... I don't agree with him being that sloppy of a player. His work on Formation of Damnation was some of his best playing IMO. They are both exceptionally talented drummers.

    • @CultureShockGaming
      @CultureShockGaming 2 года назад +2

      I've been watching a lot of his videos and noticed something about his sitting position and what movements he is doing with his legs and it's no surprise to me why he is struggling, the technique he is using is called the "flat foot", which is used by moving your upper legs (hips), and keeping your lower muscles (calves/shins) pretty relaxed!
      this technique can work well on one condition :
      you have to sit pretty high in order to only push down the pedal and not lift your whole leg up,
      unfortunately because paul is sitting so low all the time, he is constantly trying to battle against the natural rebound of the pedal/spring and the weight of his own legs...,
      usually you only need to push down and relax, the rebound of the pedal helps you lift your leg and you can repeat the process, and because you sit higher it demands less efforts (check out drummers like Derek Roddy or Chris Turner who are using this technique) , when he was younger i have no doubt he could play that way and force through every show, but it only works for a couple of years and definitely works against your knees and back etc..

    • @roneystapes
      @roneystapes 2 года назад +2

      @@CultureShockGaming Very interesting, this is probably a huge reason for what's going on, he's sitting too low, looks like he has this habit since when he started playing drums and it was never corrected, actually just remembered reading about sports injuries to his knees long time ago, they say that once your knees go there's nothing you can do to bring them back, that's the reason mob guys used to shoot each other in the knees back in the old days

    • @CultureShockGaming
      @CultureShockGaming 2 года назад +2

      @@roneystapes Yes exactly, in Paul's case he should sit a bit higher and use the ankle motion (no upper leg, just the calves/shin muscles), that way you don't have to use your knees at all, you just lift your legs a little and start moving your foot alone, that's the technique i use and it's perfect to play songs like war ensemble or angel of death (200/210 bpm)

      I thought the same thing. I think his work on the album recordings is killer! Although live I've always noticed his double bass is off tempo at certain times. He tries to play too mechanical and it just isn't crisp and clean like Dave's live playing. With that said, I still think he's a great studio drummer.

      @@mcg5167 It's just the Truth, and i am not even saying that as if it was a bad thing, it's all about the muscle groups and how you use them,
      in fact considering he got many injuries through sport practice back in the day, it's no surprise he struggles to play his parts correctly nowadays, building up double bass speed has all to do with muscle memory and surgery or injuries can really easily mess it up very fast and for the longer term ..!
      (trust me you can google plantar fascitis (injury i got from overworking double bass) and it sucks major ass to feel a constant pain while playing.. really has a bad effect on speed and endurance)
      Listening to divine intervention or his work with forbidden there's no doubt at some time he could use his shin and calve muscles just fine to play the fast parts, but now looking at this video, it's all full leg motion which is way more tiring,..
      Which leads me to think his body does'nt really now anymore how to use each muscle groups at their best! He is probably trying to use his muscles all at once, and they might be acting against each others!
      Then again i Don't know any of his double bass settings, sitting height etc... Sometimes a few changes in settings or position can make a huge difference !
