This man KICKASS!! what he does in drum is something not human!! all records that he played is awsome... listen, shovel headed kill machine with Exodus, his drum lines are INCREDIBLE!!!
I've always been amazed about Bostaphs creativity, precision and drive. He has that sound and dynamics that matched perfectly with Slayer's music. It is sad that from one point his lower body could not longer follow Slayer's music. Most of the double bass parts became more sluggish and floppy to the point that I was - as a fellow drummer - feeling his discomfort when those very physically demanding parts were about to come. One of my favorites drummers though.
I love Paul, i love Divine intervention, i've been playing drums for the last 30 years, and of course, fast double bass kicks are the weak part of Paul's drumming. Its not an insult, its reality, but dudes, who cares, killing fields, 213, disciple, point... Paul is a really cool drummer
Both Lombardo and Bostaph are amazing drummers. Bostaph is a bit more relentless in his style. But Dave is a very unique metal drummer...he has a swing to his drumming that's rare...almost groovelike. Not many drummers that play at his speed can capture that feel.
Thats the best way I have heard to describe Lombardo. Bostaph is a pro drummer and plays all the songs perfectly live. Lombardo is more of a feeling drummer who plays super hard with not as much technique. Paul could go in the studio an play for any band. Lombardo does have a style that us old metal heads love but dont get it twitsted Paul can play anything. I dare anyone to show me Lombardo playing anything off of Divine Intervention like Paul plays it with the quads and triplets, which was a masterclass in drumming that hardly anyone had seen at the time in metal. No matter what Dave has a special place in our hearts.
it has been said a couple of times already ,and being a Slayer fan since the first hour ,Dave is faster, cleaner, better on doublebass ,and Paul is a more technical drummer with awesome fills and is using a lot more variety in the songs .....i love'em both ! ....but the best line up for me was Slayer's first line up !

I've been saying that for years... I love Slayer, and Dave is awesome.... But Paul was just so smooth, and creative.... which is what I believe helped Dave become better ever since re-joining Slayer.
You always know a drummer is really good when they make you want to switch from guitar to drums! :) Guy is inspiring! Makes me want to buy a Kit and practice my ass off!
April 13th 1999, Bogarts, Cincinnati,OH Slayer is on tour for Diabolus. Best metal show I've ever seen. God Hates Us All comes out. I loved the album, and made it a point to be at Bogarts for the next show. All I can say is, don't bother going to a Slayer show if Lombardo is there. It was that bad. And because Lombardo can't play a lot of Bostaph songs, it was just a memory lane show. A very crappy one.
Great fills and a nice touch that's different to Lombardo... Loved Bostaph on God hates us all album. Dave Lombardo still outshines in my book but this guy is still a fucking talented drummer!

@@artonline01 come on man, Paul is so sloppy nowadays with his feet. he can't handle those double bass parts from Dave. in the 90s it was ok but even back then his kicks sounded weak in comparison to what Dave beats out of his set. and as to be seen in some videos, Dave still can handle his stuff pretty well.
I think bostaph is more technical than dave, but dave kinda was the beginning of that style of drumming in my opinion. You may be right but id still prefer dave simply because hes an original member.
Lombardo, and footwork. No matter what he does, it'll never be good enough for the hatters. I actually prefer Paul over Dave, but to each their own! Kick ass drummer for damn sure.
i personnaly like paul's playing better, but i don't think he really suits slayer, dave is slayer, i like pauls work with testament... i want to see a drum battle between paul and dave, that would be insane in my opinion...
I really like Lombardo, he is a good drummer. Bostaph is monstrous, talented, creative great drummer. We cannot compare a fast double bass thrashy guy like Lombardo with a real drummer like Bostaph.
Juan De Jesus I heard Slayer had to drop some Bostaph songs off the live set while they were helping Lombardo make some money. Did Slayer ever have to drop any Lombardo songs with Bostaph in the band?
You can't be serious. Just look at Paul struggle to get through his own songs 🤣 Dave on the other hand, hasn't lost his mastery. Paul's footwork is atrocious and sloppy. His skill has seriously eroded over time. Dave is BY FAR superior. Always will be.
@@KingDevilCharger yeah man nobody seems to realize how weak Pauls feet are. Especially These days je butchers every Slayer Classic with his sloppy ass double Bass. Guy is through.
+Adam Giangiordano nope, I can hear both just fine. I've watched all his drum cams, his off time double bass is very apparent. Still a great drummer, just his double bass is very sloppy now
+Musa Tariq Right. That's what I always say about him.. as much as I like him as a drummer. Also another issue for me is when he plays especially the ride cymbal (8th and 16th notes) separating the strokes more like doubles so is "easier" endurance-wise to play fast. You can hear that on 01:24 and on many live performances of songs such as Angel of Death and War Ensemble. I fucking miss Dave.
I agree.... Sorry for Paul but... Footwork Sucks in this video. And God Hates Us All-album i have notice some mistakes with footwork. But Paul is Great!
@@angeliebay3276 yes. His double bass has always been sloppy. Divine intervention might be my favorite album but his double bass is terrible and always has been.
@@mcshatly1576 Well, your opinion has a right to exist but I really wonder were have you noticed sloppy double bass footwork from Paul? Live performances like this one or even any songs, albums? Examples?
I hate when people start talking shit like that... Lombardo or Bostaph... Fucking stupid, no comparison... Totally different sound... I love Seasons In the Abyss & Diabolus In Musica the absolute same... I take those 2 albums for my example because I have actually heard people say it's 2 different bands (till they heard Araya scream his ass off), completely different styles, wildly different lyrical... erm... directions i guess? Comparing those two is just stupid... Let's say, they both rule?
The battle is endless. For me the difference betw Dave and Pauls is the originality of Dave, maybe because of his roots. Psul might be faster or more technical but hes just a metal drummer
no doubt dave is better on double bass. faster and cleaner than paul. but i think paul is more technical and better overall drummer than dave. dave just plays the same fills over and over.
Thank you!! Paul is god awful!! He can barely get through his own songs let alone Dave's. His ability deteriorated BIG TIME over the years and he's not the drummer he once was. I cringe reading some of the comments here praising him. I understand if they're trying to be nice, but they can't be serious about what they're saying. Dave Lombardo was and always will be superior to Paul Bostaph. Hands down.

I can be your arch-nemesis! Lombardo is an earthly incarnation of the unholy true god! Though Bostaph is pretty decent too. Like a mortal dude who tries to match up to a god. This dude’s drumming is so sick.
Is it something wrong with the bassdrums? I doesn't sound like it catches the longer fills right
the song is DISCIPLE?
It still remains that Bostaph's drumming is more fun to listen to..... for me.

Yeah happened to me as well. I know how frustrating double bass is
The sheer power of Paul is epic and he had one of the loudest snare rim-shots in the history of metal drumming.
One of the best Bay Area thrashers!!! I loved him in Forbidden!!! Paul's still killin it!!!🤘🤘🤘🤘❤️
I need more velocity because everybody said me Paul bostaph and I don’t know why ?
No enemies here. Bostaph is the chosen one.
This song DISCIPLE 👍
BRUTAL
2012... Seems like Dave got a point when he says that Paul just waited all the time to come back to Slayer.Anyway, this guy kicks ass.
2:40 -- 2:50 It's not as recorded. Best part of the song but Paul did not played there the same. Dont know why...
Igor Stijelja What? Dave never plays it as it's recorded live.

Lombardo or Bostaph, they are both killer
but for this song, Bostaph is awesome !
Best Slayer drummer E V E R.
Oh no sir... a guy named Dave Lombardo takes that honor. Paul is great but Lombardo is a monster...
Except for Lombardo.
I know I'd need A LOT of practice to pull this off but I'd expect better from Paul; he's all over the place here.
He's the type that needs constant training, two weeks with cheeseburgers and no practicing puts him always to square one🤣
