    I'm actually not surprised these weren't for you. From what I've seen this collection isn't really meant to be worn together per say, more separate elements for eyes or lips, but not at the same time. And whereas your emphasis is usually complexion (from videos I've seen) Violette doesn't go much further than a super natural looking highlight and whatever pink blush is in reach.

      If you watch Violette’s video on her launch, that’s very intentionally how she uses it - she removes the lip color before apply the eye color. It seems like her vibe is just having one dramatic element on an otherwise very clean naturally face. I’m super into it!

    I’ve never heard of this but as a dark-skinned girl I appreciate the abundant pigment! I pass on so much makeup because I know the shades will never show up unless I go hard and then I look like 🥴. TFS!

    I see Violette as more of a creative/artist than someone who is trying to sell a minimalist look associated with “French girls.” Unfortunately that label has just been slapped on and she sometimes leans into it because that’s what ppl seem to want, but I think it’s more about having fun with makeup as if you were a painter.

      Violette is a makeup artist who has an art background, so she does prefer to lean more into the artistic and creative aspect of colours and makeup, but it seems she does try and make her looks more minimal to meet a french aesthetic.

    So glad to see a review of this line! I was immediately interested in it and have picked up some of the items. I really like Violette's approach and especially her philosophy of celebrating a person's uniqueness. : ) I was very impressed with the metallic Yeux Paints and also the Lipstick. I love a bold lip and this is quite a comfortable matte. Not quite as long lasting as I expected but definitely workable. Haven't tackled the matte Yeux Paints yet (I got the shade Tout Doux) and admittedly am a bit intimidated by them but hopeful! Did not notice a fragrance with the metallic Yeux Paints or lipstick but did notice it when I swatched the matte Yeux Paint that I got. She does talk about using safe ingredients and looking at the ingredients they appear good but the smell with the matte Yeux Paint was a bit off-putting.

    I’m a violette stan and still I totally get where you’re coming - I feel like the makeup trend lately as well as her whole approach to makeup is all about dewy, sheer, effortless, on the go, etc. so I was surprised to see such intense matte products. I could see the matte eye products being good for statement liners like she does sometimes. Thank you for reviewing this!! Glad I skipped the eyes and went for the skin/hair products, I can at least say I love those

    I love you in the lip color actually ♥️ Thanks for stepping outside your comfort zone to test this launch for us. One bit of feedback: after watching how Violette explains and applies the eye colors in her launch, and seeing how some others on RUclips work with it (and not just people who simply want it to work because they like V 😉), I think the application technique you’ve used doesn’t really suit the product. I can understand why you’d approach it this way, but I can also understand why it didn’t work. It seems to be a very unique liquid eye that isn’t meant to be blended out across the lid like this. I’m actually really excited to try it after seeing how it’s meant to be used!

    • @kackie
      @kackie  3 года назад +1

      I think you misunderstood. I wasn’t implying that those people LIED because they like Violette. I was saying they did more research as to how she recommended using the products because they like her and want to do makeup in her style. They were willing to do more to get them to behave. At the end of the day, I’m speaking to an audience that isn’t all Violette fans. I would absolutely hate myself if I told someone to buy those matte eye shadows. They are difficult. I stand by my review.

Also very helpful to see your review. I was waiting for this! I really like Violette's approach to makeup, because she encourages people to play and experiment with color, she shows how easily a look can be created in just a few steps, and she just makes the whole process feel less intimidating than a lot of makeup artists (imo). HOWEVER. I noticed when she was showing her products that even *she* seemed to be having a hard time blending the eyeshadows, which was odd because her whole vibe is "effortless." Even though she loves highly pigmented eye colors, and I'm glad her line has such a good payoff, I'm disappointed that her products are so difficult to use/blend, since it seems to go against her whole philosophy and approach to makeup. Admittedly, I think the lip color looks good on you, but there's no point forcing it if you don't feel comfortable wearing it. Thanks for the vid!

    I bought the lip, the highlight, and 2 of the twinkling eye paints, blue and bronze, none of which I needed or would want from any other brand but yeah, she's very convincing. I'm excited to be challenged and play around with these products, so definitely not upset about the purchase but agree that I too am in over my head with these. In general I kinda think that "French girl effortlessness" is actually just a pretty name for some massive cultural gaslighting in which French women put forth a major amount of effort but prioritize SAYING that they don't, so the rest of us feel stupid when effort is required to get the same effect. Not saying it's intentional on any individual's part, but the combo of that cultural emphasis on keeping effort close to the vest + everyone else's belief that Frenchness is the highest aesthetic = a very gaslight-y dynamic.

      I’m French and the thing is : effortless doesn’t really mean that you did not put effort into your makeup. Only that it LOOKS effortless. Meaning : not too done. In France, we don’t really bake and we don’t contour for instance. False eyelashes are NOT a thing.. We prefer a natural highlighter. If we do a red lip, we wear bare eyes (just mascara). And we use effortless techniques such as : eyeshadows with our fingers, lipstick as a blush... another tip : blurring the edge of your lips so that the red lipstick doesn’t look too perfect and done. Violette’s products achieve that « effortless » goal because it’s one statement per product : BOOM red lip. Or BOOM blue eyeshadow, which you apply with your fingers. ☺️

    I tried out the products as well ( as a very normal / non mua woman) and share your thoughts 100%! Found them very tricky to use and could not imagine doing it on the streets or in a cab how violette is making it look. I do like the products themselves though, just not combined.

    Helpful! When it comes to things like this, I go with my gut, literally. If a product is making me tense up in my stomach while I’m working with it, if it’s just a struggle, I’m just not interested. Life is too short! I want makeup to make my life better, not add stress.

    This is definitely how I felt the first time I was using her yeux paint and the petal bouche!! I found with yeux paint i just need to put a dot if I'm using the matte, blend with my finger or a brush, and the blue one is perfect for dramatic smokey eyes or like a cat eye. The petal bouche's pigment is the only red I found that complements my skin tone, so super happy with that, however it does start getting flaky after a while. It kind of wasn't worth it to me... I hope she makes it as a regular lipstick or stain. Overall, I personally found the yeux matte paint the most worthwhile purchase out of the entire line since I never have time to put on a full face of make up.

  • @ElzaraIsmE
    @ElzaraIsmE 3 года назад

    I was also surprised by the level of pigment. what I did with lips is I applied whatever you applied on your first application to the center of your lips and spread it out with a clean lip brush and finished off with lipliner. And yeah, none of the matte shadows are cool-toned. They are pretty warm-toned. I skipped her skincare because I'm not buying skincare from someone who has not spoken about skincare in her channel and I do have very particular skincare. So I'm not convinced.

    I am so bad at liquid lipstick, but I looove the petal bouche color and mistakenly tried to fix it with my finger on my first application. My entire lower face was pink. Now I just put a tiiiiiny tiny dab of it on my finger from the doefoot and then smudge that around my lips like a stain and immediately wash it off my finger. I do the same with my yeux paint.

      Someone commented on a video of mine recently and said that due to my bone structure and some other variables, I’m not as good at carrying off smudgy “imperfect” makeup. I felt seen. I have tried those yeux paints a dozen times since. The result is always way less cute and way more difficult than other things I like.

    Awww Kackie this was the most diplomatic way to say this line fell flat. I actually purchased the same items minus the highlighter. You articulated the issue I have with the product line. The colors make noooo sense in how they are supposed to play with each other.
    I didn’t enjoy the items. I am a red lippie girl and I didn’t enjoy this at all. I’m still happy she launched her line but it’s a pass going forward for me too.

      No you guys aren’t crazy but I think the point is that they’re not meant to be cohesive. They are meant to be standout elements on their own that can be added to your own products. The French aesthetic isn’t about cohesive looks. It’s mostly highlighting one feature at a time. Not the eyeshadow going with the lip etc that we do in the States. This isn’t what we see normally with makeup lines so that’s why it seems weird.

    Hey Kackie! I was wondering if you would be interested in review the Zeesea brand? They say they're a CF brand, but their products are made in China? I'm not sure if they will fit with your channel, but they had some products I thought you might find interesting, I've also had a hard time finding non sponsored reviews about their products. Appreciate all your indepth reviews!

      From Zeesea's site: "ZEESEA® makeup products belong to the category of ordinary cosmetics, which are not legally required to be tested on animals under China’s laws. We recognize that customer safety is of importance but that this can be assured without the use of animal testing. We believe that animal testing is not acceptable." They also work with Be Cruelty-Free, "the dynamic global campaign from Humane Society International, launched in Europe, India, Brazil, China, New Zealand, South Korea, Canada, Australia, Russia, and in the United States via our sister organization The HSUS."

    I had no idea you had lip filler because it looks so incredibly natural. I've loved your lips for a while, and was like, "She's just genetically blessed." Your doctor has done a bang-up job flattering your natural lip shape and injecting so as to minimize the risk of filler spread/migration (which forms a shelf above the upper lip that causes protrusion, and thus the dreaded duck lips). That's usually the tell-tale sign we notice when we see someone and think "Yep - girl's got lip filler!" I've never done it, but have spent years researching filler (I have no life)...and it all comes down to the injectors' technique. Injecting into the vermillion border and doing things like Russian lips or tenting create a higher likelihood of filler migration - but your lips are perfection because you've dispelled my own myth that I can *always* spot filler.

    • @kackie

      Thank you! In Texas they don’t require a doctor to do injections so I sought one out! I had my dermatologist do them so they were very natural. She used 1cc of volbella each time. Now I see a doctor in New Jersey but it’s the law here that injections MUST be done by a doctor, so that’s awesome too! I would definitely recommend finding a doc who does it. Not saying “injection specialists” are all hacks, but I’ve heard some horror stories.
