Jimmy changed my life. His playing was my main inspiration to learn drums. He wasn't just a good drummer. His ideas created a sound that was distinctly Jimmy and distinctly A7X. I remember showing this to my best friend and his mom in our apt. Jimmy was still alive, which made that maybe 2008. So this looks like a re-upload. I was a lost kid musically until I heard Bat Country and Chapter Four. Suddenly it became crystal clear who I was. So thank you Jimmy (RIP) and A7X, and thanks for watching this one.

You know, I have to say. I got lost tonight (nothing negative like) but got me missing The Rev. Took me back to maybe 2007-ish, almost done with high school since I graduated in 08. Skipping forward and a boat load of un-needed BS, I truly did in fact end up getting to game with James on Halo, it had to have been Halo 2 since I believe Halo 3 was 360 only?. I only remember getting paired on the original Xbox with a bit of Googles help with him and i do still to today feel bad asking if it was truly him, just something you kinda cant ever forget you know? RIP James, we miss you brother.

Late comment on an "old" video from 2 years ago, but I heard or read that Tommy Lee was a big influence on The Rev in terms of showmanship. The Rev added extra flourishes and exaggerates in his playing to put on a show. But when it comes to the actual album recordings he was very deliberate and meticulous with what he wrote for his drum parts.

Avenged Sevenfold's "City of Evil" album is just legendary. Definitely give the whole thing a listen start-to-finish. You can't really classify them as a particular genre because it varies regularly throughout their work. Their ability to wreck house with heavy alternative metal for the first 5 songs, then switch to a hard rock ballad, then go back to alt metal, then a full orchestral composition later... etc. They really stand alone as their own unique identity.
Just wait until you see what Jimmy pieced together in his head on a later album, with the madness that is "A Little Piece of Heaven." It's ridiculous... and brilliant at the same time. It sounds like A7X's take on a really messed up Broadway musical generated in Jimmy's brain. Then watch the documentary on it, which is hilarious.

The Rev is good but if you want to see what their new drummer is like check out "Exist" from the most recent album. 🤯

The Rev was the man, really great drummer but that wasn’t even the best thing about him. He was a truly special all around musician specifically as a composer of full songs plus he also sang too. just a genius level songwriter and composer and it’s sad he died so young, still managed to leave behind a hell of a legacy. Anyway good stuff as always man, RIP the Rev

Also, where did you get that cup? My dad is a lifelong drummer and I would LOVE to get that cup for him, even though he is really no longer able to play because of his health.

In my opinion, he's the greatest drummer/songwriter not named Neil Peart. And he died before turning 29 years old.
Avenged Sevenfold lost their sound when he died, and he'd be so proud of them now after the last two albums they released. They found their way again and, like Rev loved doing, told their critics to F--- off and made what they felt like making.

I wonder if you would take the time to watch Mike Portnoy’s live take on Almost Easy during his tenure as Jimmy’s replacement. While he spits a bit much for my taste 😆 he puts an interesting (yet not as iconic) spin on the drums for Almost Easy and has good footage of many songs off their Nightmare album.
