“You can’t go wrong with that setup”…Until I sit down at it. Many things will go wrong.
Not sure if anyone has pointed these out yet:
He tips cymbals away from him so he always hits the edge of the cymbal (cannot go past level this way)
He sits high and hits down on all the drums and cymbals, this also lets him play his bass pedals by pushing down through his leg (no heel toe)
He claims his setup allows him to play the hardest for the longest possible while saving energy
Chris has mastered this craft to the point where it's almost disgusting. I'm pretty sure he could control when and where sweat comes out he has so much damn control!

And this is the more “tame” groove based one that he’s got in the bag for the 2022 releases. I’m always stoked and feel blessed that I get to hear the audio the day before the video release. It gets me pumped cuz I know the video is gonna be the cherry on top of the audio masterpiece.
You should check out the play through for his work with I Am Abomination from 2020…the song is called Heir to the Throne.
His setup is 13/16/24 with a brass snare that he has a video of him restoring on his channel. Also, if you think relative to how high he sits, he sits above the angle, so the cymbals are “straight on” at that height.

It’s actually a copper 14x4 knurled copper snare, he won it in a raffle at a Thomas Lang clinic when he was younger and it’s been his go-to snare for basically his entire career. Now we’ve come full circle, he’s done a duet on a solo project with the man himself. Also I agree, his work on the I Am Abomination album didn’t get enough love. I think I like that stuff better than his actual band.
Don't worry, 18 year old here and "sick" is a prevelant part of my vocabulary.
I believe that Turner is his own greatest critic. You simply don't get that good without listening to your own recordings and cringe at every last imperfection. Like Mikey EM said, he is the kind of drummer that sends you running off to practice any time you hear him play. Amazing!
I don't want to cringe at everything I record. But then again, I often do! It's great to be proud and like what you do. But I often think never being satisfied of your own level is the only way to keep moving forward. It's a balance, though. It's very important to me to listen to recorded performances and say "hell yeah, nailed that". In other words, if all you do is beat yourself up, there's no fun.

I really struggle to listen back to myself but I'm used to it now.
I can always spot the drummers who don't record themselves. They critique others (normally famous drummers!).
Recording yourself would stop that... LOL

By the way, Chris did a video on how he builds these songs. He uses a program mostly and builds it all layer by layer. Then he has the OAA guitarists play it live.

Very simple kit. Probably to allow him to concentrate on those amazing, thunderous, double kick patterns. Noticed on his pedals, he's really high on his tiptoes. Was wondering if that helps him with speed or punch or both. Fantastic player, I really dig the complicated double kick patterns he can play. Good one Andrew.
When you're trying to kick faster, using just your tiptoes reduces the distance your whole leg would actually need to move, so you can go faster, but to keep the power takes more energy.
@@mikeyem1562 It looks a bit uncomfortable to me. I wonder if his legs get tired quick. With his calf being flexed so high like that, its got to be tiring. Thanks for the response.
7:06 I think he didn't (for the guitars at least). Don't know if he wrote those leads and guitars, but one thing for sure he's helped by his bandmate Jibs and Dan McNally on the guitars.
Oh, and on this one specifically, BOOFGODS make the EDM instrumental.... though there's an "I'm not entirely happy with this" sign from chris.
