This is their best era for me. I saw one of the last ever performances by the REV (RIP) in England when they supported Iron Maiden at Twickenham in 2008. Little did we know that just a few months later he'd sadly pass away :(
I saw them after REV passed away. Mike Portnoy was filling in on the drums for the tour. The outpouring of love for the REV from the crowd was incredible. Signs and chants. It was heartwarming in a tough time.
I've always thought that. they were at their absolute peak at the end of the REV's life. I still love em all but he was a huge part of their songwriting process, and Shadows was just in an incredible place vocally around this time too.
I went to their Kerrang! awards gig in London in 2008, was a really small venue too, still one of my favourite gigs I've ever been to. I also remember exactly where I was when I found out The Rev had passed =[
Agreed, wish I'd been here. This is by far the best, well what I'd call, 'modern hardrock' band I know. And this was their best time for sure. Excuse the terminology but I really can't call them a metalcore anymore :p
The lead guitar player (Brian Haner, Jr./Synyster Gates) is able to do those crazy long harmonics because his guitar is equipped with a SUSTAINIAC driver in the neck pickup position. It's an electromagnet pickup that constantly feeds vibration back into the strings so long as it has battery. It can also forcibly cause controlled feedback and self-harmonize, allowing Zacky to play rhythm parts while Syn does both leads in a duel at the same time.
You're correct. I have one in mine as well. However... he is still demonstrating amazing proficiency and control. The pick up makes feedback last longer. It doesn't make divebomb squeals for you. It's still easy to miss the harmonic or timing and end up with a flop
For more Rev singing, check out a little piece of Heaven from this concert! Lyrical content is questionable for new listeners but it's like a stage production live. I'll watch anything you react to from this show haha.
The album this song is off of (the self titled one) is my FAVORITE album of theirs. If Bat Country had been on this album instead of the previous one (City of Evil), it would have been perfect 🤩 The Rev is definitely one of my favorite drummers. RIP Video question: I haven't traveled very far for a live show, but I've been to several places here in the state of Colorado where I live. Fort Collins, Denver, Commerce City (out by the airport), Morrison/Golden, Broomfield, Breckenridge... So there's a good number of miles on my car that were for concerts 😂
Great concert vid as a whole.. I'm so glad I was able to see them when The Rev was still there.. not long after this came out.. Had tix to see them with a new Halestorm opening.. but couldn't make it.. still one of my faves.
this was the prime era of them to me imo, city of evil was a breakthrough. i miss this year 2007? I remembered going down to a cd store and bought the deluxe ed with of the album with the making of album, rip the tracks and play it like crazy on my mp3 players, then introduced bat country to all my friends that didnt have any idea about this ban and became a fan immediately, when this concert dvd came out i also bought it and lend the disc to my friends and even having watch party. man those year was a really good time.... brings me back
Its crazy that this song is so relevant to today. Pretty much my theme song for the last few years. Especially now. As an army vet these guys really grab the attention of vets with a lot of their songs dedicated to the military and controversial things like this song and several others they have. Helps speak the mind of how we feel. I know they have a bunch of veterans or people who are possibly still serving in the military which is why they are more "patriotic" than most bands out there.
I didn't notice till that harmony that Syn had already swapped to the sustaniac at the time of this performance. His pinch harmonics and the like I just assumed they were cause he is trained in like idr how many styles of guitar but he is such a proficient player with so much skill under those fingers.
I recommend Hail The Sun, they are a post hardcore band and their Vocalist Donovan Melero is also their Drummer. Missed Injections is a good vocal and drum playthrough. Other songs I recommend are Human Target Practice and Glass: Half Empty
Hi Tony, you reacted to Band-Maid. Thanks. There is a lot, lot more japanese Rock and Metal music to discover. Since the Managers and Band on Japan smelled money after the success of Babymetal, expect lots of Band from Japan going on world wide tour. One of the rising stars is the Band "Lovebites" (they sing in english). Take a look at thier channel, try the live acts like "Swan Song" or "Holy War".
Nice man. Also a DCI/WGI fan. Just performed in Dayton not long ago. Got a favorite show? i hope more people can get into it. The music is just phenomenal
The longest Distance I travelled/will travel for a live show will be 1777km/1110miles Vienna to Barcelona :D But one day I'll travel to the US for some festivals or concerts \m/

He passed away Dec. 28th, 2009.
This is prime A7X. I still enjoy all the more recent stuff, but this is awesome. Critical Acclaim is such a huge anthem style song, I love it.
