- Richard Simmons' brother, Lenny Simmons, opens up to ET's Nischelle Turner about the fitness icon's legacy of championing a 'better, healthier life' for people everywhere. Richard was found dead at his home on Saturday. Law enforcement has yet to share any potential details surrounding his cause of death. Richard was 76.
The interviewer did a terrific job. She asked good questions and let Richard’s brother do the talking without interruptions. Such a great job honoring the wonderful Richard Simmons. He will be missed.

You can't reminisce about the 80's w/out thinking about "Sweatin' to the Oldies" & "Deal a Meal". Richard Simmons was an absolute angel on Earth who brought health & happiness to a lot of people. The world needs more people like him. Go with God Richard. Thanks for the memories.💔

Richard Simmons left a legacy of love and service. His compassion made him legendary. I still have my Sweatin' to the Oldies, first exercise (and best) I ever bought. The world has lost a bright and beautiful soul.

Richard Simmons gave encouragement to so many people. I have always had ups and downs with my weight. Richard Simmons had the ability to make people feel worthwhile even if they were not a perfect size. I loved this man's kind and generous spirit, and the love he gave to all.

I am so sad that Richard is gone. I’m still processing it. Honestly, even Betty White didn’t affect me as much and I absolutely loved her and I’m so sad I never got to meet her. Or even Gene Wilder. It’s like a part of me died with Richard because he was a HUGE part of my childhood-my mom and aunt used to make me do the Sweatin VHS tapes with them when I was little and I’ve loved those videos ever since. Its kind of shaped who I’ve become today. They make me so happy with the wardrobe and the music and the set decorations … Yes Richard didn’t have it very easy as an overweight child but he lost all the weight, built a fitness empire and helped millions of people and was just a genuinely good guy. Thank you Mr. Simmons. ❤ I wonder if he’s leading all the angels in a heavenly workout.

I had the honor of meeting him in 2006 when he came to my grandparents retirement community. Fantastic man. Well loved. May he rest in peace.

I started watching Richard Simmons in 1981 when he had his exercise show in the mornings. My son who is now 43

I loved Richard's videos. He was full of enthusiasm and the music he selected to work out to was great fun. I never bought anyone else's workout videos, even though the market was saturated with them. His sincerity shone through in everything he did and that was what set him apart from everyone else. May God always hold him in his care.

I loved his positive personality. I remember seeing him on General Hospital at the campus disco doing exercise classes as Richard lol himself in the 70’s. The man was always a ray of sunshine. Every person who knew him had great things to say. Definitely down to Earth. Very sad hearing of his passing🥲🙏🏻👼

Condolences to Richard’s brother and family. Still can’t believe he is gone. But Richard would want us not to mourn but be happy. It’s nice his brother can shed some light and give us a little sense of connectedness with Richard even though he’s passed.

I remember his epic Howard Stern appearances which were always hilarious but he revealed on one of them that his older brother was drafted and went to Vietnam. Richard tried to enlist for combat duty because he wanted to be close to his brother and he was too heavy and failed the physical so he went on a crash diet only eating saltines and drinking water he lost so much weight so fast and was so undernourished his hair had fallen out! but he went back again and once again failed the physical because he had become anemic from starving himself. I'll always remember that about him RIP Richard

I felt so guilty laughing at him. After Hurricane Katrina, Richard was going around ĺooking frantically for his brother. Richard finally found Lenny, and you know how sensitive Richard, crying his eyes out. And his started crying, and Lenny had this look on his face thinking " Go find somwthing to sleep on and go to bed"
RIP now he is Sweatin in the Heavens!
Does anyone know what happened to him how he died? We never got the honor to see Richard, him finally realizing how many peoples lives he changed, loved him, begged he come out of hiding, so mysterious.
