Well, it may have been the 40mm Pagani many people were waiting for, but it is still not quite what I expected! The specs are typically outrageous, as always with Pagani, but there are a few areas where you can tell the money has been spread rather thinly. So I suggest checking the clasps, and replacing all springbars with better quality items. They are plentiful on eBay, and it is generally good policy with budget watches. Cheers, Jody
I'm three months in wearing my 1661 blue dial smooth black ceramic bezel.. i have to say it was love at first sight and its growing on me more
Jody’s sole purpose in life is to eliminate what little I have left in my wallet during these hard times.
I agree with you. He is doing the same thing with me
The little you have left will also be gone very soon so spend it wisely.
You too?! Although, he didn’t introduce me to Steinhart, the current sinkhole for my money.
@@kellypaws Love my Steinhart Ocean Vintage GMT !
Yeah, a very insensible person.
I’ve had my Pagani diver for about a year and a half. I purchased it on your recommendation and…i hafta say…i love it. I have owned two Explorer II and a GMT Master II and I love them and their profound level of craftsmanship. For $99-$139 to even remotely come close is a feat by itself. The weight, the feel, the look, and - most important for me - the durability of this watch has been both immensely impressive and immensely satisfying.
Thank you for your research and recommendations!!
Just wanted to let you know, that, of all the watch reviewers and bloggers and lifestyle vloggers I subscribe to, including educational and otherwise that have nothing to do with watches, this is the channel I get most stoked about, by a good margin, when new content is released. The energy, sense of humor, conciseness, honesty, lack of frills BUT abundance of style.... please don't stop making content!
I have mine for 2 weeks now and I'm loving it. It runs at +3s a day wich is awesome. Couple of flaws - bezel doesn't line up and the lume is pretty poor. Great recommendation, thanks Jody ! Keep up the great work !
I just bought one and they ditched the 'Explorer' text on the dial. I guess they heard you. Now, all it needs is a blue second hand.....
Not a dive watch person myself but for $80 this is a steal
I'm thinking the same thing. I have not been interested in a dive watch but agreed the price is outstanding and since its sapphire and seiko movement, ok... i'll throw it in the cart and press the button on sale day.
@asdad asdasd My first thought was to keep an eye on the rating, and I won't wash my hands with anything less than a 200m on my wrist.
I prefer my Loreo
@asdad asdasd if I'm not mistaken, 10 bars is equal to 145 PSI and the 100 meters is about 200 feet. so yes, I would consider this is a dive watch
I just checked the site and even though it says 100m on the face, beside the watch in the listing it says raining or washing hands as far as water resistance. Kind of misleading as far as I'm concerned.
@@scottym3 100 meters is 330 feet and a dive watch must be 200 meters or more. I doubt this Is truly even 100m due to how cheap it is. It does look nice.
would you spend the money to buy this watch or rather to upgrade your SKX with a ceramic bezel?
Those corners on the clasp are dangerously sharp. I’ve scratched my loved ones a few time just buy giving them a hug. Wish they’d smooth out those corners. Hope you can mention it next vid. I barely wear it now so I don’t hurt them.
You can easily smooth the corners yourself so you won't have to complain in future.
Try some sandpaper. Or even a nail file. You can't make it worse than it is.
I don't mind that the watch comes with some issues like this, if it means I get the specs for the low price. I don't need lume and I can polish metal myself.
I've contacted them, they're going to produce sub model in 40 mm in august.
Did they mention the price mate?
Great. I like the bezel on that variant more, especially in the green.
@@waris3732 i think it will be the same
I believe they already have according to @ilikewatches
@@danriverso1053 but they sent him to 43 mm not 40 mm
It would be interesting a video explaining how the time grapher works, or what to pay atention at the screen, or how to use it. It is not very clear to me. Saludos.
I got the blue/black fade dial. It is fairly subtle and is easily mistaken for all black except in good light.
I just got a PD-1639M for just $59.99 and I’m loving it! No problems so far (lume lasts the entire night without even charging it) and the movement came with only +3s/day! Didn’t even have to regulate the sucker. Now that’s something I can be proud of!
PS:
I have no affiliation with PaganiDesign and I would rather say all this about an American made watch. But reality is different.
This looks good and at 40mm is a much better size than the other Pagani (43mm)
JOMW - "The $80 Dive Watch You've Been Waiting For!"
Me, an intellectual - "Wow, the corona pandemic really hit the Rolex Submariner secondary market hard..."
It hit the ADs hard too. Got several voicemails last Thursday from them saying watches were available. 🤪
Too bad a Rolex "Firesale" would be something like "Now only $6,000".
RT Curtis me too, I had two calls offering me a submariner last week
Try Grand Seiko Third Party Sellers
Or better yet wait a couple months for the Bank Fire Sales
🤣🤣
Bought Black one with your link. Watch is PERFECT! Bezel lines perfectly and no clasp issues. Cyclops is awesome! No issues, thanks!
The Lume 2 1/2 hours later was keeping up with my Seiko chronograph. Both clearly legible in the dark and I stopped checking after that. I was pleasantly surprised.
Thanks for starting my day, Jody! I've been watching your videos back lately just staying entertained. Hope you, your family and everyone else stays healthy through all of this!
Love your reviews...i am a watchmaker working on vintage pocket watches and the occasional rolex. I bought the pagani. What winders do you use in the background.
Thanks Jody, I think I'll stick with the 43mm version they have. Got one coming in the mail anyday now.
I agree.. I bought a 43 in December.. not worn it since.. just sized it yesterday and 24hrs later it is running to the second!
Excellent especially for £57 😅
After 2 months my Pagani "Hulk" arrived. It was worth the wait, thank you for making me aware of this watch. Unbelievable for the money.
My pagani i bought 3yrs ago is still in good condition.no scratches ive been using it for everyday.
My suggestion... it would be great if you could provide specific links to shop for the watches you are reviewing rather than the link to entire page of products you ever reviewed...or may be you can provide links to both.
just got the PD 1651 (Rose gold and rubber strap) and it does not dissapoint. Had a few comments on it from various poeple and i got it for 80$ usd. NH35A Hacking and hand winding too? Great deal. This is my new bang around daily
They need to come out with an actual GMT since Parnis has one.
If they do I hope they find a much better movement than the Parnis one. As much as I love my Parnis GMT, the movement is quite imprecise and it runs slower and slower the more the spring unwinds itself
With a "pepsi" bezel and white dial: Instant get! 👍🏻
I have the Paris GMT with Pepsi bezel and it’s been keeping great time. Luck of the draw I guess!
@@chrisdavis8399 My Parnis GMT keeps great time also. Love it. Got mine from parnis.org. Only wish it had at least 100 meter water resistance.
Parnis' GMT is shit; I had one, the GMT hand got 'stuck' every now and then, was totally unreliable. Once I saw the GMT hand was 3 hours back.
Just received one for which I paid $78.00- I ordered it through one of AliExpress’ website companies and was able to track it using AliExpress standard tracking program. Total delivery time was about 2 month and I was alerted as to the delivery date through a number of emails.
I own a number of high end watches plus a couple of Invictas so I was willing to take a chance on the Pagani. It’s advertised with a Seiko self-winding movement (like the Invictas) but it hard to tell through the display case back. Overall I’m quite satisfied with the Pagani. The watch looks great with a solid link oyster-like bracelet which uses micro screws for adjustment. I had to remove 4 links till I got the fit right. Like current Rolex oyster bracelets, it uses a similar latch design with a micro adjustable link. As one would expect it doesn’t work quite as smoothly as the Rolex. The crown is a screw down design with a O-ring seal which also isn’t as smooth as the Rolex design. So far it appears to keep decent time and only time will tell.
Nice watch however it seems pagani adjusted the price 125 euro for the 43mm, is there a ref number for the updated version with the safir crystal?
Bliger. 40mm otherwise exact same specs including screw links and "Oysterglide" extension on the clasp. NH35A automatic movement. £64 including import fees to the UK. Pleasantly surprised by this one which I bought to practice my watchmaking skills on, it's much better than I expected, I suspect that it would suit most people for a beater or work watch. I think it's only got 30m water resistance tho' so landlubbers only (they do ones with higher rating but they're more expensive) Great video thanks. (The Bliger clasp is better. The adjustment extension is smoother in operation but not loose and has 5 positions providing a useful amount of fine tuning)
Not my slice of pie..but I always love your enthusiasm! 👏👏
Mine is running hilariously accurate. It's currently +1s after three days. I hope it stays like that.
Hi Jody. I am curious as I have recently seen Bersigar being used interchangeably with Pagani Design. And somewhere I thought I saw Pagani Design was changing it's name to Bersigar. Can you explain this to me?
I was all excited for the 1651, then I saw the 1661 and though the traditional bezel might be nicer. These are the exact same watches, correct? One video said the cyclops on the 1661 was sapphire but not on the 1651. What are your thoughts?
Nice looking piece. I'd have preferred if they used a glide lock style clasp instead though. A lot more useful in my opinion. I have one on my Parnis GMT, and it's great.
Your testing reminded me how Seiko refuses to put sapphire on even their more expensive watches. It definitely lowers my impression of Seiko overall. Do they really think we are too stupid to notice? Good thing we can get their movements in better watches. Love Pagani Design. Keep bringing them up for us.
I saved a bit more and bought a Seagull Ocean Star.
I have had it for a few years and wear it every day.
I absolutely love it.
Is the bezel black or grey? I was looking at getting the grey bezel, but if this is indeed the black one, gives me something to consider...what would you better recommend for sub $200 submariner (have you looked at Steeldive?)
Great video as always. I'm thinking of ordering one today. I'm a little concerned if it will make it to US at this time due to the pandemic. Have you heard of any issues regarding that. Any response would be appreciated. Thanks.
my bezel has the same problem, not very solid click to line up at 12 o'clock
Can you actually go swimming with it? I am not asking about actual scuba diving, but can I jump off the dock at the lake and it will stay sealed and dry?
Should be. As long as the gaskets are seated properly in the crown, case back and crystal
So, what to get then...this Pagani or the Loreo???
I've got mine on a silicone Ali Express Isophrane copy strap. I think it's quite fantastic and it's getting quite a bit of wrist time, I have to say.
This thing is the king of the undead! Spearfishing in about 20m depth, windsurfing with unscrewed crown and of course swimming, snorkeling etc for several months.
Bezel fell off while sleeping and got it super glued and aligned for the first time! Spring bars fully rusted but still there and last but not least... Brushed the bracelet with a power tool while attached to the watch 🤣🤣 🤣
Bottom line it still works and looks like it was bought last night 😃🤙
Hey Jody - I enjoy your videos! Here in Florida, I've bought several (Rolex homage) Reginald dive watches in the last 3 years. They're sold on ebay at an average price of $25 to $30 USD and are an exceptional bargain.
Although I'm a diver, I don't take them swimming but as a daily sport watch, they are unbeatable for the money - Seiko movement, strong bracelets, applied indices, several color choices, 40mm case, etc. and a handsome watch. If you haven't reviewed one yet, you might consider it. Best, Roy
I really love my Pagani, but would suggest it is a Sea Dweller homage and not a Sub...I know it is a fine line to draw, but the dial and case suggest it to me.
I purchased this watch and your right I think it looks real good. BUT BUT it did NOT work out of the box. I have tried and tried to get a replacement. Been asked for photos which I sent and then TOTAL SILENCE. I think your reviews are so helpful, I watch all. But I think you should do reviews on CUSTOMER SERVICE. In my case it is nearly impossible to figure out where, who to return the watch to and to do so to get a replacement or refund. They say return’s within x days no questions asked. I have have questions upon questions with silence from them. They are correct they haven’t asked a question. Can you help???
As you are a Tinkerer, could this be a Cheap Mod-Watch? NH35 -> wide Range of Hands on the Market. Could you open one up and check the Dial Size? Does it take Dials intended for 007 or 013? Maybe even Bezel inserts would fit?
I know it´s a lot to ask but maybe you are interested in it?
Mate, if I end up locked down, I'll for sure pull apart a Pagani or two for our mutual entertainment! 😷😂
@@JustOneMoreWatch I don´t hope you end up locked down. But now i kinda do ;) Stay safe, stay healthy.
Nothing to flip my Phoibos Wavemaster for... I still love my MK1 blue/NoDate, but I look here and there if there is something out which could be a successor...
Mine's just in. Looks nice. First impression is good.
The little blue protection foil on the crown is a bit of a PITA.
The little adjustment holes on the clap are a bit different on mine.
There's only three, tightly spaces at one side, rather than a few across the whole length. Overall: happy camper! Cheers for the recommendation.
Ordered mine today. Looks to be a good watch for an unbeatable price. Thanks, Jody!
I never wanted an automatic watch. About a month ago I've seen one of your videos. I bought a Pagani Design subby homage. Now I want to switch all of my quartz watches to automatics. Except the G-Shock and the led watches 😁
So thanks a lot! 🙄👌🏻✌🏻
Very happy to see they now have a smaller case to play with. The Daytone Pagano I have is a bit "sleek" for my taste.
I'd love to have one. Perhaps in a slightly different color.
By using an extra link in that clasp one could add a few grams.
Might shiny bezel inserts fit?
This blue is 40 mm?? I just bought it now and I don’t know the size
I finally received my copy after a 3 month delivery time to the US! My copy is essentially unusable. The threads on the screw down crown are flawed. I can only get about a half turn before the threads lock up leaving the crown protruding from the case. It looks bad and no way it’s waterproof. Contacted them, they requested video of issue. Sent it to them and haven’t heard back from them. I guess I’ll be harvesting the movement and bezel insert for other watches.
Just got mine and it's as expected. Very happy, and the smaller size than Pagani's PD-1639 is very wecome. Awaiting my PD Daytona.
Did you ever get your PD Daytona? How is it?
@@ulysses26 I got it and it's great. Used it to time service rifle match rapid fire practice with a .30-06 M1. Recoil is stout and the watch held up just fine. Was told automatics weren't best for competition.
I wonder if this would be a good modding base? $80 for a cased NH35 and sapphire crystal is a bargain, add a decent dial and hands and it could be awesome! Wonder if SKX mod dials will fit... Shame they didn't copy the yacht master lugs as well though, I hate the submariner maxi lugs :/.
I bought one after watching your review Jody, but I'm confused about what you have against the clasp; my Phoibos has a stamped clasp which is nice enough but this seems easily a step better and works faultlessly. The bezel action is a bit meh though but the ceramic makes up for it. I quite like the violet lume which kinda suits the stealth look of the watch head. Super pleased with mine and it has crept to the top of my favourite watch list. Thanks for enjoyable and informative reviews Jody, keep it up!
Hi , what what the name of that web site you always advise to go and check prices , cant find it
Hallelujah!! I was so disappointed that the Pagani sub was 43mm, that's just too big. This is PERFECT, and a great base to modify too. Cheaper than an Invicta, no silly writing, sapphire crystal, what's not to love. Will definitely bag this one, thanks Jody!
I think I may buy the two tone! I have a Loreo "kermit" but these things look even better. I'm convincing myself I need something a bit more flashy.
Ohh, there isn't a two tone variant! Damn it.
I've been mulling it over this afternoon and I believe you should use whatever influence you have to get them to make a two-tone. Get to it J!
Jody 8.25 Inch wrist on me but like them small, how long is that bracelet w/ all links? Do I have a shot at it fitting me.
Can you micro adjust this one with the jubilee bracelet? I got one, and I tried to pop off that part of the bracelet where the micro adjustments go, but regardless of how hard I pull I can’t pop it off, and I feel like I’m going to break it before it pops.
If I’m not mistaken there is the PD 1661 that I own. It is 40mm , has the same design, and it cost about the same.
It wasn't a thing when he was recording the video
Good video. Is this PD-1661 Bezel insert Outer Diameter: 38mm and Inner Diameter: 31mm.?
Ordered myself one of these. Can’t wait for it to arrive.
Hey Jody, Excellent video as always. Would it be possible for you to buy a pressure tester for the channel and pressure test these Chinese specials to see if they actually hold up to their listed WR?
I just love these Pagani's, the value is great.
I have two. They are a bit finicky. HAve spare spring bars and be SUPER careful with the bracelet screws. They like to work themselves loose. Same for the Daytona buttons.
Love, love, LOVE the value. If I'd buy a Rolex on discount, it would be as an investment.
I just got the 1639 based on your review and i love it!!! You really cant do better especially for the money. My only complaint is the bracelet. I have a 4.25" wrist and I wish it had more mircro adjustments. I think im going to get an aftermarket "glide lock" style clasp..the ez link is just too hard to undo and redo on the wrist... but add glide lock clasp and I think it will be PERFECT.
4.25?🤔
HI jody, what thickness did you get on this model? 12. what?
Got myself the Parnis Batman GMT the other day and ordering the San Martin 62 mas in green and bronze tomorrow on the Ali Express 10th Anniversary sale.
Issac hunt you’ve got it as bad as me!
How does it fare against Invicta Pro Diver 8926ob? Thanks
I had bought 3 of the 43mm Paganis just before Christmas and wound up selling them all. It was a lesson to me that while a watch can have great specs for the money and work just fine overall, it's the little things like the weird tinny sound of the bezel when rotated and the unexciting copycat aesthetic. I thought the great deal for the specs would be enough to get past this, but it wasn't. The watch was "good enough" but it was also obviously an inexpensive knockoff of an existing better watch with almost no design flavor of it's own other than being a "deal". It wasn't poorly made, but all the little shortcuts "spread too thin" across the the bracelet, bezel and weak lume made it feel well ... just cheap. The watch was... fine.... but it didn't make you want to pick it up and wear it like my other watches do. I am not beating on the value it's an amazing deal for the money, but as a package the watch was more of an industrial manufacturing curiosity of how much you can get for the dollar vs being an interesting timepiece.
Had my eye on this one, thanks for the review.
Very nice can you suggest ware I can get a Zenith homage pilot watch?
hope they release a 40mm green version! i'm glad i waited my buy on the 43mm one!
With the two dollar coupon it will be $70 for the 10th Anniversary sale. Starts in 12 hours at which time I will be buying yet another Chinese sub Mariner-ish Chinese special! Thanks Jody!
Just saw the video and immediately ordered the watch (black dial on stainless steel strap) it just looks fantastic in my opinion. This is going to be my third pagani after the 43 mm submariner hommage and the Daytona hommage
Wristwatch check Jody - or are you wearing the Pagani?
I can’t get enough of your videos!
i love mine. even though one of them came with grime behind the glass. as a entry horologist it was no real challenge removing it. a perfect watch to tinker on considering its so damn affordable. cheers
Could you swap the bezel insert on the PD-1651 for one of the submariner inserts you can find all over aliexpress?
Would you please review a Bliger homage of the modern Omega Seamaster (without gmt)?
I'm very curious about this one, but existing reveiwes are nearly nothing versus yours in terms of the quality and information
Andrey Ts oh yes
Seeing this watch makes me want to wear my Phoibos this morning.
I bought one of these after watching this review. After a good long COVID-19 inspired shipping delay it finally arrived. I am quite happy with it with one big exception. After setting the time, upon depressing the crown to restart the seconds hand and screw down the crown - about 3 out of 4 times the seconds hand does not start running again. It takes several tries and a little luck to get the crown to engage and start the seconds hand running again. This kind of defeats the advantage of having a hacking movement as it is very difficult to get it to start at a precise moment. But, it's an $80 watch and it keeps great time other than that, so....
Moddable AF. Seiko 28.5mm dial fits this -> Endless dial alternatives. Easy enough to align bezel and remove magnifier and you're good to go!
Got this for $50 on the sale. WORTH!
Unbelievable.....I am fortunate enough to have a Rolex GMT and this looks just as good. I may never have bought it and saved a few quid if this had been available....Amazing value.
I wonder if the brushed bracelet from the pagani sub will fit this watch..i love the brushed finish and nice taper of that bracelet..i hate the polish on this bracelet
Jody, have you looked at the GMT version of the same, the PD 1662?
I bought this from Ali Express with the SS strap, i also found a black rubber Rolex (polished SS clasp) on their website, both 20mm fittings, this strap (to me) looks much nicer than the black strap that it comes with (optional)
I have the Pagani Black Sub and have quite thick wrists, so the size has never been an issue. For the price you just can't go wrong. I've had more comments about these watched (I have the blue, gold/blue & green ones) than any of my Real, Omaga or Tudor watches. How they make this quality of watch for these prices I just don't know.
I'm hoping they bring this watch out in gold, as you can get the black rubber (polished gold clasp) strap too. This would be one nice watch. You can get a different make in the gold (Caseno 42mm) but haven't seen any reviews on them. Saying that for £55 I'll probably get one
The only probem i have with the watch is the wobbly bezel :(. Any other good quality dive watches which are 40mm from alie?
Im trying to put that yachtmaster in my cart , but they are calling it "brown" in the color.I just dont want to have to screw with returning anything
Thank you very much Jody! Got one from AliExpress for 57 € on sale and the quality is splendid! Regards from Germany!
Hi Jody, thanks for the review. I bought the exact watch over two month ago. Also exactly as you have reviewed, I had the same problems with bezel (too much back play) and with the adjustment of the clasp (I could not even take the spring bar out and adjust...). Spec wise, as you said, it is an awesome watch, but me being bit of OCD, I just could not keep it, so after a week later, I sold it off via eBay.
After that, I bought San Martin Rolex Homage watch at double the price, $190. I truly believe that the San Martin Rolex homage is the best spec, valued and fit & finish Rolex Homage under $500. They even regulated NH35 withinplus 2 to 3 seconds per day.
Extremely well made, you should check that out if you have time, Jody. (the screw links on the bracelet is so well done that it is almost equivalent to the watches over $1000.00. Amazing...)
again, keep it coming. Staying home like everyone else, so looking forward the double the vids from you, ha ha.
thanks and stay safe.
Hopefully the discount is tomorrow. I've already bought a Batman Vostok GMT today...

You need to review the Steeldive SD1952. Beautiful homage to the original Fifty Fathoms and only 41mm in diameter.
Hi Jodi, I am isolating at the moment so looking to add a couple of watches to my collection , 1 diver which the pagani hits the mark with but I wondered if you could recommend a panda chronograph watch with retro styling, I fancy getting one on a Rallye strap. Got a budget of £150?
Saw a Heitis panda looked okay and the Hoffman one too.
Have you had a look at Alpha? I think they do a few with the ST1901 column wheel chrono movement. Basically, look for that movement and see what there is for your budget. All the best, and stay safe. Good for you!
Thanks guys will have a look at both. It's funny that there is always "just one more watch" that I need. My wife gets fed up of me saying that I won't be buying anymore after this one comes 😇
I have just bought the PD 43mm Submariner, for me, the 43mm looks better than the 40mm of my Loreo. This one is interesting, but probably not enough for me to pop for one... Jody, how about you do a moding video on these, see if you can swap the bezel yourself... then I can follow how you did it :-)
Is there a version with the bezel in pure black (instead of grey) like their 43mm version?
There will be in the coming months, likely around summer time. Save your cash till then if you just want a straight Sub homage.
There is one more PD Explorer but with Better colours but it doesn't have seiko, but some other *Pearl Movement* ... would love a review of it Jody ! ❣️
Great video! I really enjoy your channel. I’m debating on getting the
San Martin or the Pagani .
I’m thinking of putting on a silicone
or rubber strap? I really need an everyday watch .
Your thoughts?
Thanks again
Personally I am not a fan of the Mercedes hands/Rolex case look-but these watches truly are great value and highlight just how little incremental value an extra $10k gets you in a real Sub. The Seiko movement makes it a buy rating in my book if you only have $100 and you like the style!
Great specs as usual & at least they've done away with the bonkers 90 click bezel even if it is still kinda wobbly! 😁
