"$500 a month is quite expensive"
*Laughs in Seattle then cries in Seattle*
She said she shares a room though, not a flat. So she shares a room in a flat with several flatmates, probably. It’s possible to get a small room in a flat in Oslo for $500, but then you probably share the apartment with 3-4 other people.
@@wowwizI don't even live in Los Angeles but about 50 miles north and to rent a room in a house you are looking at $700 to $1500 a month and most you will share a bathroom....
So yeah that's.not expensive.....
Cries in Bay Area 😢
Crying in Dublin 😭
😂😂😢😢😢
5000 NOK is about the cheapest you can get for a room/apartment in Oslo. I bet most of these are students, which means they may have access to student housing. Most people I know pay around 10 000 nok per month.
Well that adds up if she is splitting the bill with a roommate
That's what I pay in Germany and it's absolutely doable.
Must be nice. In small town Waxahachie, TX, it's more like 10,000 NOK for the cheapest place.
That’s still only $1,000 which is dirt cheap
@@bidmcms3 That's also for students, living in tiny rooms, mostly sharing a kitchen with other people. If you want to rent a proper apartment, by yourself or as a couple, you usually pay a lot more than that.
A whole lot damn cheaper than most cities in the States
Keep in mind that we have lower wages and walk home with insane jobs. The US has, on average, a higher hourly wage compared to basically every EU country.
@@V-DTAJ Dont forget that the the whole of Oslo (including almost all of the suburbs) has a really developed public transport system meaning that you dont need a car in any way to travel around the city. Instead of paying for a car and gas, a transit tickrt fees is only around 80 usd a month, and students get to pay half which is 400 usd. For children under 12 I believe its free, and those over pay a much lower price.
@@V-DTAJ Transit in almost every area has transit going 24/7.
@@V-DTAJYeah except maybe Switzerland and maybe Sweden.
@@V-DTAJwe have to pay for bare minimum health car and expenses
I'm paying 1400 dollars for a 2 bedroom in Durham NC and that's on the low end in a crime ridden area and trash everywhere.
Makes me wonder which political party has allowed that to happen
@@stevenjohnson7086 I mean…both. Mostly republicans, tho.
@@Ocinneade345 Huh, okay. I understood Durham was predominately ran by Democrats. But I don’t live there, so I don’t think I can form an opinion.
@@stevenjohnson7086 It's a national issue perpetuated by the real estate lobby.
I'm from Durham as well, as it's mostly run by democrats but politics, parties don't really have anything to do with it
for 5000 a month in oslo you pretty much get a room with that fits a bed and not much more, then comes electricity, heating and internet on that.
I lived in one of the cheapest cities in Canada . A basic very small studio ,not in a safe neighborhood apartment in 2024 minimum $980 a one bedroom $1300 and if you want something in a decent neighborhood +amenities = 1500-2000$ for a one bedroom
Norway is expensive?!! Compared to what, exactly? Zimbabwe? Tunisia?
I would LOVE to be able to pay $1,400 for a one room apartment in San Francisco.
And I bet Oslo doesn’t have people fleeing the city because of used hypodermic needles on the children’s playground, feces everywhere and cars getting broken into by smash-and-grab teams.
Think about that.
Hahaha i promise you, we have alot of junkies, criminals and gangs with knifes
@@daffedavidsen6306 Yep… that was meant sarcastically, but I suppose my comment did not really sound sarcastic. The City has basically been ruined by politics. Good luck!

@Old Cuckold … just… slightly…
Look at the Norwegian rent experts in the comments with no real experience living in Norway speak for Norwegians
Norwegians are pretty dumb creatures to be fair so they need someone to speak on their behalf. Kind of like chimps or orangutans. If no one spoke about them they would be extinct by now

I think Even Oslo is crazy expencive …
But I live in a smaller city and owns a house and a cabin and pays about 700 us dollars a month on it in total
These people are talking about student shacks. If you want to rent a proper appartment with 2 bedrooms, kitchen, living room, bathroom etc its way higher. Most of these people are renting single rooms, or live in a student apartment with more people.
Not really, just check the appartements for rent in Google by local pages, a 70-90 m² 2 bedroom modern kitchen appartment in Oslo is around $1400-1700 USD
I live in the middle of no where, Tennessee and rent here is easily 700 for the worst apartment in the most dangerous areas..
Rent in Vancouver Canada has reached $2700 / Month for a 1 bedroom. Fuck the economy, it’s time for a revolution.

You don't work hard enough
@@TheFalseShepphard I would simply say shut up. The house prices in Norway has gone up 15 times at the low point with the inflation since 1995 and that's outside Oslo. In Oslo the house prices has skyrocket between 20 and 50 times since that time along with the inflation. It is more expensive today too rental meaning it's less for you too save up money too buy a home and with the house prices going up too the skies it is impossible too buy a home if you don't have a rich family. It is become a huge problem specially if you wan't too be living in Oslo. It's nearly impossible if you are single today. And do you know how much the smallest apartment cost? From $300.000 and that's just about from 25 square meter apartment. If you wan't too have a comfort home late us say 60 square meter that would easily go for $500,000-600,000 and above and that's even with a high costs too the shared costs with other apartments.

I’m pretty sure they’re talking about krone (nok)… 1 USD = 10.57 nok
So expensive 💸
What does the avg salary look like in Oslo for poeple thinking $1400 for an apartment is expensive. Coming from America $1400 is a room in a ghetto neighborhood of LA while the person can earn around $30-40k realistically.
Most, if not all, of the people in the video are students. So she’s likely getting the basic 13000$ in scholarship and loan from the state, then whatever she can get working after school. Different story for those with jobs. For someone between the age of 30-44 the average salery in Oslo is about 48k $.
In Oslo the median wage is abput 50k, average is about 55k per annum, in USD. (SSB's number, for 2023.)
It's $2k CAD for a 1bdrm, probably more if you want it above ground - anywhere near Toronto 🇨🇦
That's still way cheaper than renting in Manhattan.
I'm paying $1300 for 1 room in chicago I'm moving to Norway 🇳🇴

I'm paying 70 dollars on a flat in Brasil. 5 minutes from work. Don't even need a car.
Careful, Norway has universal healthcare so you will also be saving a lot on health insurance. Oh and they also have virtually free college education.

That is super cheap compared to Los Angeles and most other major US cities. A room in LA in a nice middle class neighborhood is over a $1000
Not bad considering it takes Norway like 5 years to equal one day of gun violence in the U.S ! plus the healthcare system is way better , no wonder Norway was voted one of the top countries where people are happy ..
Is Norway multiCULTural like the US?
@hhefner9659 yes but not as much as the U.S , what's your point ?

My salary is 650 dollars in dubai as security personnel.
But i use to send 400 $ to home 🏠 each month 😊
New Zealand is $300 a week bruh
Definitely mixing dollars and NOK here
Me and my family live in norway and my parents has to pay 26.000kr per month, it depends if youre living alone or with your family. If you live with your family the rent is much higher than living alone in Oslo.
Considering the average pay of Norwegians is $30k USD a year after tax, where everyone is highly educated, the cost of living is actually more atrocious than CA. My husband works in a grocery store and takes home $25k. That pay is close to scraping the poverty line.
25k is good i guess ?
In the US you have to do your own taxes and pay them once a year, is that 25k your husband makes before or after taxes?
That isn't math'ing.. I've at least 50k usd after taxes with decent wage for a job that doesn't require any education nor "talent". But even if that was true, relinquishing some shopping power for greatly reduced hours per week, all the vacation required by law and options for further time off is fair to me. As with wages, cost of housing depend greatly on location, you could easily find an appartment 30-40minutes from Oslo for 1/3 of the price if not cheaper.
People need to stop comparing Oslo to global cities. Oslo is a kind of provincial city in a provincial region that doesn't have multinational companies that attract workers from everywhere who inflate rent prices (like Seattle)
this
Thats nothing, i pay close to 1400 usd in that city nd i only have a part time job, just get a part time job that pays well

Seems like these are collectives in mold-infested buildings or student housing.. Rent for a studio appartment (30m2 ish) starts at around 1500USD. The pricing on these appartment usually start near 320k USD.
5000 n krone= 368£ and in england you are the most luky person in whole uk to pay that money for a room... at moment for a share house the cost of a room is 550£ with no bills included.. yes for a room.
Yes, but in a real country that's still quite expensive.
Average room in a collective is typically above 7000 nok. Below that you'll likely get a bunk bed in a makeshift sleepinghall typically used by seasonal workers from eastern europe and sweden.
Its cheap compared to the usa, 8000nok is about $800 dollars
Oslo’s rent is even cheaper than Manchester 😂😂😂in Manchester one bed apartment would probably 1400 pounds per month now
You can a fairly decent apartment for around 900 dollars in Oslo. It’s not cheap but at least it’s not a closet for the most part. Mine is big enough for 1 person
What is the average pay in Norway though? Does it balance out or does it basically equal to the same amount as the American economy.
Y’all have to remember they make at most half of what we do. An engineer there (probably) makes the same amount as a Panda Express manager
In Norway, you get less income, pay a lot in tax and have to pay a lot for food, housing, electricity etc. On the other hand, we get better results with health services. The people in Norway are mostly satisfied with what we get.
@@Sapientiam Oh yeah? I would rather earn more and pay wisely than give my money to a$$holes
