This series has been the most work I've seen someone go through avoiding using a dang rake and bin to cleanup leaves.
I'm usually the first to geek out over new tech like a remote controlled lawn mower, but I don't think I could think of a less efficient way to pick up leaves if I tried.
It’s honestly quite painful to watch. Seems like wayy more effort than it needs to be
Put a solar powered exhaust on the storage container
I was gonna say the same thing
This crossed my mind
Paint the roof white
putting a hole in the roof isn't probably the best idea for storage, especially in Florida. Either paint the roof white or add a extra layer to get the sun off the roof might make more sense
@@kyleb1958 you could put it in a sidewall, as long as it's properly sealed. I'd still paint the roof white though to help.
Putting leaves in a bag is the most city thing in existence.
There's no way my garbage company would ever pick up any of that stuff and I'd be forced to load up a trailer and haul it myself.
Same here, I wish we had a company locally that would do that.
If you tip the garbage guys and are willing to help toss it in the truck then normally it’s not an issue. If you call the company they will normally tell you no.
I think we get one stupid big item a week, like something the size of an old 90s projector tv
We have blue bin for plastic, black bin (cardboard) and a green bin (food waste) and then brown bags to our leaves in and it gets picked up with the green bin. Plus a max of 3 bins or bags of garbage….I know plastic recycling is bullshit but the food waste, leaves and cardboard actually really do lower the amount of trash.
Around here the scrappers would have picked it up before I finished putting it all to the street. 😂
Hey taylor, rent a small-mid sized skidsteer for 1-2 , maybe 3 days (depending on how early you start and comfortable operating you get) with a bucket and harley / power rake attachments. Get a landscaping rake. Order topsoil for day 1, use the internet to calculate how much you need or just get a truck load to start. Use the power rake to grade and till the current soil + grass. Then use the bucket to spread topsoil 1-2 inches where you need it. After it's spread re use the harley rake to grade the new top layer. Use the landscaping rake to find tune the grade and clean up small/low high areas. Use the power rake liberally to achieve a good grade. (which you basically already have) Seed spreader, seed it, cover all the seed by hand with shredded hay. Water water water, gl bro
Yeah, his soil looks like dust
@dobledekersoulwrekr yeah it's Florida it's all sand.
@@pbking442 Yup, scrape up the grass and it's sand. My yard is like that and if not kept wet it goes to hell...
Your neighbor with the boat seems like such a chill guy. I'm glad you found a nice place with good neighbors, and its great that you're making it nicer! Love the videos, can't wait to see the loft in the shop!
Agreed but always make sure not to take advantage of a neighbors kindness
Yeah that's a dream piece of old school Florida property. The older house and those old trees decent neighbors sure help
@@Chris-ws2oh Definetly, but I can tell he pays it forward. I know in his last video he welded up the blade sheild on his neighbors lawn mower so it seems like they get along well!
You need to skin ur awn sand level it den seed and water everyday for a month makes a huge difference for the climate unlive in
Older Gen X'r here. I remember Dad buying tools and furniture fully assembled, dragging them out of the pickup and putting them to use. There was also free assembly in the store, and the option to buy the display unit. Not only have things become more of a hassle, the quality of things have gone way down.
Damn right.
Man just get a leaf bagger for that ride on you already have… that RC thing was painful to watch. Looks good after all the work though!
If you are going to make me drive the mower at least give me a 36inch deck
Was going to say the same thing. Mow 1-2 times a week with a bagger for the ride on and it will easily keep that entire yard in check.
It would've cost less to just buy a bagger kit for that zero turn. Mulch and bag the clippings, and it would've vacuumed the leaves right out of the lawn. Battery mowers don't get enough lift/suction. The mowarator might need leaf blades as well, to help improve it's lift/suction.
He still would heave needed to do the raking and dethatching but yeah, all in a bag for his mower would be well worth it in the long run.. None the less still an enjoyable series to watch
Dig two pits in some yard corner, make them watertight. Build some fences around them. Throw leafs in one of them. Add some water every now and then. When one is full, start to use the other one. When the other one is full too, empty the first one. Leafs turn in to top soil in no time when they are in big pile and some moisture is added.
Yep, make an enclosed compost pile. Its a win-win. You have an easy spot to dump leaves and they turn into awesome rich organic matter for your garden.
My attemps at compost turn into moldy gross crap@@Mrm00se1337
I don’t know if it’s just me but I borderline look forward to these improvement videos lol. Love the car content but these videos are always entertaining
You should look into a mulching kit for your zero turn. Baffles fully enclose the deck, and the blades will turn your grass and leaves into dust.
Old dude here Taylor. As I recall, all equipment delivered to the farm or purchased in town and hauled home in the 50s and 60s were fully assembled. Of course there was a lot of disassemble and reassembly for routine maintenance and part replacements and where, as a youngster, me father taught me basic mechanical skills.
Bud is just throwing away a 1,500 decked system😂
I was like wtf
That was the craziest part. He could easily sell that Decked system on marketplace and make some money.
@@shr00m7 or just give it away for free! Would be gone in 10 minutes😂
I was wondering what the hell that was. But that’s exactly what it was 😮
You know he made it.. 😂
Love these videos Taylor, keep them coming. I must admit, I would tear out alot of those bushes and small trees along the road side of the yard. It would simplify mowing the lawn, the yard will look cleaner in general, plus less clutter/leaf litter will drop and gather! For example, the property over the road, very little vegetation and the curb side appeal is great!
Taylor doing yard work videos are like men’s ASMR, so relaxing to watch.
I like doing my own yard work over watching someone doing it. Nothing like firing up a cigar and mowing a little over 2 acres on a riding mower.
You’re gonna need to keep that yard wet until that grass seed germinates. Letting the rain only wet it isn’t enough. Gotta water the yard twice a day minimum
MY DUDE, instead of throwing out all your yard waste in trash bags, you could start a small 2 to 3 bed compost area in the back corner of your yard. With composting, you're taking all the bio-mass waste from the yard and reinvesting it into your landscaping. We throw a lot of our kitchen scraps and shredded cardboard in there too, the worms and bugs make pretty quick work of it with very minimal effort from us. We then take all that awesome soil from the finished compost and backfill our flower/grow beds... It's a win, win, win! CHEAP, EASY AND GOOD all at the same time with compost...lol
14:10 - you dump the leaves in your garden bed or mulch them with your zero turn mower - so they decompose feeding your lawn and garden eventually food/soil.
You should hang the metal from the rafters under the car port. Run a chain on a rafter and leave some droop or 2x4 shaped in a U then slide the metal. I hang panels under my porch and it works great. Also keeps it clean no leaves.
You should look into adding a mulching kit to your zero turn. Makes getting those leaves to disappear a lot more efficiently.
You're gonna need to put some kind of organic material on top of the seeds or they're not gonna do well. Sand or sifted top soil are the best ways to do it. Then you have to water at least twice a day to keep it moist.
This!!!
Yup. People have grass fail and wonder why. Meanwhile even up in Pa where its better conditions if you aren't watering at least twice a day it's not going to go well.
😊@@Chris_Mc.
My inner dad brain is really pushing me to start throwing out advice nuggets at ya, but I’m gonna refrain. I will say that just throwing seed on what you have will prove frivolous. At the very least you need to power rake up the top layer of soil which will destroy a lot of the grass you have, but you have to destroy to rebuild. Keep going, progress is looking good
If you're really looking into improving your property/curb appeal i would look at landscape design. Getting rid of alot of that shrubbery and vine/weed, getting the grass back to full coverage and then planting low maintenance shrubs, plants and trees that show off your frontage
Ya the front looks like shit lol. Mega sandbox. Just get rid of all of those shrugs and start fresh with some garden crotons lining the driveway and around the front of the house. Dude has a brand new sprinkler system and the grass looks like he’s living on mars.
@@kyle.brandon i mean i know having acreage is hard to maintain. You're not going to maintain 3+ acres of sod but whatever "grass" he has just probably needs fertilizing and/or reseeding
I strongly recommend getting a bagger for the zero turn. I have huge oak trees along the entire width of my back yard, 110ft, and I just drive along and the mower picks them all up and mulches them down a ton. I tried a push mower with bagger and it wasn't near as effective.
If you get a bagger for your riding mower that will help a lot it has a lot more suction and will help such up all the leaves when you mow and you get a cleaner looking yard
Or add a mulching attachment to your mower and mulch as you cut. The old leaves makes good fertilizer for your lawn.
I'd definitely consider getting the lawn areas aerated, it would really help new grass establish its root structure deeper and allow water to penetrate better meaning you have more water and less evaporation in the heat.
Its so funny watching the lil guy just drive around raking leaves.
Bros just havin a bite
Love these videos Taylor! Just listening to your commentary is why most of us loyal subs are here! ❤
I love these videos Taylor. I listened to your 3 hours on cooper's podcast and I think you have enough people following you'll never have to worry about it. Thanks for the great content. Also, yard looks fantastic!!
You need to put a solar fan in the container
I am SO excited for the rx7 project and I’ve been waiting SO patiently haha. Love your videos, they’re fun to watch no matter if it’s building a race car or doing yard work. Thank you!
Please take the vine off the Well House door it’s driving me, nuts 🥜 😅
Crazy l, I started watching you when you first got a pit bike and I loved the videos then. Now you're doing lawncare and boat stuff and I love the videos now. Here's to another 7 years! Keep it up man!
Last time I watched one of these I turned it off and went and took care of MY neglected property... good thing I'm at work, I'll be able to get through it without feeling guilty about my own shortcomings lol
Man, you’re the only one I can watch extended videos from. Really like what you do…
Yeaaaaaaa Taylor keep up the adult content
Adulting/being an adult 😂
Ayo
He's got an onlyfans?
Sounds so wrong
T-ray OF would be wild.
Taylor, I'd recommend getting a leaf blower and vacuum combo. It'll give you the variability to pick up more of the mulched leaves. 👍
dude just pay a landscape company! they'll come 2-4 times a month cut the lawn, clean the leaves up, fertilize and trim the bushes, all you gotta do is water the lawn. so much easier
Makes my day when I see a new Taylor video
I’ve really like the home maintenance videos tbh lol idk I feel like you make so many videos for us and “content” that you neglected the property a lil. Feels good as a viewer (& 10 yr landscaper myself) that you’re taking time to do the physical labor to make your home beautiful, and the results are clearly showing in the videos. Anyways keep up the good work and drink water, T-diddy
a zero turn with a catcher on it would be the easiest and quickest way to keep on top of all your hard work
Listening to that lawn mower makes me really happy I went electric. Not a huge supporter on electric, but for my ears and neighbours I am glad haha
The 90’s maybe early 2000’s was the last time I remember not having to put stuff together
These type of videos cure my depression.
i remeber when we first moved into our current home. The yard had been neglected for years and As hard as I tried to get on top of it the first year, it was just overwhelming. I eventually bit the bullet and hired a landscaping company to clean and clear to get me to the point that I could restore the lawn and finally get to work on redoing some of the scaped areas on my own. Let me tell you it was the best $3200 I ever spent. They cleaned up everything and hauled it all away and left me with a great foundation to work with. I still use them twice a year for spring and fall seeding, treatment and fertilizer which is less than $400/year. Over the years I struck up a friendship with the lead lawn tech that does my yard and he helped a couple years ago put in a cool 106 yard par 3 with a putting green. Decent equipment is key to maintenance and I couldn't be happier. I appreciate the sweat equity you're putting in but for me there were better ways to spend my time when it came to the cleanup process.
Taylor taking blame just shows you the kind of person he is. I get it, might not sound like a big deal. But the amount of people that would pass the buck and not say “I messed up” is too many. Respect to Garage built!
You can cut all those plants in the front down to the ground for the most part to clean around them easily (except for the really woody stemmed plants) and they will regrow looking much nicer. Typically, people cut them back all the way in the fall when dealing with the other leaves
I think he should hire whoever takes care of his neighbor’s yard.
I’ve enjoyed this neglected property series soooo much! Thank you for sharing your struggles and making it so interesting/informative to watch ❤
25:55 Yes! One of my early jobs in the 80's was as an assembler for a now defunct department store called Service Merchandise. Everything in the store, from lawn equipment, to bicycles, grills, etc was sold fully assembled.
Service Merchandise I haven’t seen those stores in years we bought our wedding rings there 35+ years ago mine broke years ago but my wife still wears hers thanks for the memory.
I know it’s not meant to be a flex but backing up that little garden trailer all over the yard was impressive to watch. Love these Trad Dad videos. Watched the whole thing
Idk what it is about us car guys loving property stuff haha. I’m all for it though!
Blow the leaf into the driveway with a heavy duty blower. Its easier to rake or vacuum stuff out of a flat surface
I really enjoy these videos. Your efficient working methods combined with your interest in using unproven tech to help is super satisfying. I love this content. Cant wait to see some more bus stuff too!
I can watch tray do yard work, house work, shop work and car stuff all day long
Looks absolutely incredible! Going to help the seeding process so much. Probably won't even need seeding soil. Would look sick to clear all/most the shrubs and have the whole front yard all grass.
Hey Taylor! You should put up a small fan in the entrance of the container so you get some airflow for when you're in there. Doesn't have to be big to make a huge difference in working temperature in there. Also pro tip, since you said you ofc don't know where all the parts you have actually are, print out lablea on your printer (don't need a label maker) and create a logical system, where you number or alphabetise your toats, for example A1 has air tools, B1 has brake parts, C1 has coilovers etc. I have that system and it changed my life!
This is when you buy a couple cases of pop and keep it cold and the next time those guys that pickup that yard waste come by you give them the cases of pop and a thanks. Its a little thing but will make you pickup in the future just a good.
Myself, I've handed out Gatorade to the guys when I had a major amount of leaves and branches after cutting down a tree.
I little kindness goes a long way with a garbage man.
I had that same thought as I watched him pile those bags up
To get seed to grow, you gotta aerate it. Basically get an attachment for your ride on lawn mower that will poke holes into the ground in to allow the seed to get into the dirt and grow.
Race cars? Love it! Raking leaves? Love it!
Man it might be time to invest in a bagging system for your zero turn. U can rank up the leaves and then dfive over then and itll blow them into bags for you
The neighbor across the street is the yard to beat by the looks of it
Also you should gravel under your car port would look lots better rent a small skid steer. Dig up plus if you ever wanna concrete it it’s already gravel
Also setting a defined edge from yard to flower beds is a game changer makes a huge difference
Yes Taylor, there was a time around 30 -40 years ago that all these things were bought in one piece. And I'm only 63 years old! 😉🤣
I suggest getting a large backpack blower, such as the Sthil br800. It will have enough power to blast those leaves clear out of the lawn with less effort.
I said that in the last video. You are absolutely correct!
Now that you threw away all that junk it’ll be next week you’ll need it🤣 always how it works, great work keep it up Taylor🔥
Just throwing away a decked system… no biggie 😂
I was about to say the same thing. I want one for my truck and they aint cheap.
@@tcolby29I thought that was just a plastic pallet
Same thought
I thought he got it sent to him and he didn’t end up liking it
Same could’ve gave it away or sold it
pressure washing the concrete really does some magic
Keep the landscaping videos coming!
Love these yard cleaning/improvement videos. Keep it up Taylor can't wait till the next ep.
Seeing Taylor work makes me feel like a kid doing chores. Had to make it fun in my eyes
Well, here I am watching Taylor do yard work while avoiding doing yard work of my own. Time well spent.
a push mower at its lowest height with no bag would make this whole series a 30 minute video. mulching the leaves would just add nutrients and firm up the soil for the grass seed. these contraptions seem to be a waste of time, money, and energy
If you can burn the leaves. Then spread the ashes around you lawn after spreading grass seed on the bare and thin areas your lawn will thicken right up.
Sounds like the head gasket is leaking on the mower. Obviously, it's still running good, but that air puffing sound on shut down and start-up is what I'm referring to. Good video, too. I envy you for being able to do different videos like this despite the mysterious RUclips algorithm.
Here I am looking for a decked drawer system for cheap and you are just throwing one away😢
For real!
you should put a trickle charger on the mower so that you don't keep ending up with dead batteries as you don't wanna kill your new battery just because you barely use the mower
Definitely need to try what looks like shrubs in the island. And get a load off pine straw to make it look better
place looks awesome, you should feel proud to have a property and place with a shop and good amount of land
I can’t wait until the day those shrubs get cleaned out.
Older generation here. We never had tools like that to begin with, but I don’t remember having build anything.
Thank you for taking care of our yard.
Also I know you said you want a golf cart, I think it would be really cool to see you build your own golf cart!
Marty the Mowrator putting in the work. Might have to find myself one!
Yes. We used to have tools that you could just go buy, no assembly. The brick idea is an old one. Still have to do that today, clearing lanes for feed for deer hunting.
You should keep the zero turn mower too... i wish i had one, its my life goal right now...just cant afford one
I honestly surprised how well that little robo mower picks up the leaves. I'm not a fan of it, but very surprised how well it did. I would be using a back pack blower and raking it up in half the time
You could make a rack inside the container un the underside of the roof to hold your excess long steel and bus siding, it’s also worth adding a ventilator fan either solar powered or wind powered to the container.
Leave a cooler by the bags with a couple cold drinks for the trash guys and I’m sure they’ll take it all. Was a trash man for 8 years, it’s much appreciated when it’s 90+ outside, take care of them they’ll take care of you
I remember when I was a kid.We used to go to the store and buy a new bike and if they didn’t have one together they had someone to put it together(They used to have a wheel with spikes and he would pull behind the mower to airate the ground to help the sead and loosen the soil)
Hi Taylor, I think the RV carport would be ideal with further hard standing, then no need park on the lawn going forwards! ❤
Most things bought in the late 60's early 70's were bought completely assembled. I started noticing the chinese steel in nuts and bolts and that was the time most items needed some assembly. Greed by big box stores taking over. The demise of the mom and pops stores who always hired a couple of young men to assemble items. Seeing all this change in my life is amazing. My grandparents were born in the late 1890's. Imagine the change they saw. Life is huge to say the least!
Cant wait to see the lush grass everywhere again. Hope you see it through!
Being a lawn guy this warms the heart
You need a firepit Taylor!! Burn off all those leaves, and branches that are kicking around. Much easier to get rid of it all!
1998-2000 I assembled things for wal-mart. We would sell things disassembled but we assembled most of the items. Lawn furniture, mowers, grills. Additionally if we didn't have something assembled you could buy it and we'd assemble it overnight and you could pick it up the next day.
Freaking hell 3.5 yrs😳. So it’s been about 6 yrs or more watching you.
I put about a bag worth of yard clippings / leaves in my bin and got a call from the company scolding me that they cant take yard waste. Im amazed they pick all that up!
