Is it just me or does anyone else feel like they just received a lot of relief from the council we just received about families and life in general? Thank you for your knowledge and wisdom and gift of sharing it, Dr. Lili!

I want to thank Dr. Lily for mentioning about honoring parents Eben if they are not deserving in our eyes. I've always struggled with that. I love my parents but when it came to honoring them I struggled. Her words resignation with me and now I feel I can truly honor their party in bringing me into the world. Thank you, so much. Hank and John your podcast is becoming my favorite. I'm just learning so much about me, the gospel and ancient scriptures! Keep it coming!💜

I love Dr. Lili De Hoyos Anderson! When she first came to teach last year about D&C on the topic of light, truth, and intelligence. I was a missionary back then and I was just so excited about what she talked about!!! I still can remember so vividly how strong I felt the spirit as I learned from her. I'm so thirsty to learn from Dr. Lili De Hoyos now. So exciting to know that she has a podcast now!

As we've been studying this year, I've learned more about Heavenly Father and his goodness. He can turn anyone's messy story into something good. He can be with us in the mess if we let Him in.

As a mother of 4 children under 6 my whole life and learning at the moment is dedicated to nurturing and teaching my children. So much of what Dr. Lili Anderson shared is so relevant with where I am at in learning this job parenting and how to be a good one. I especially love the teaching of being antifragile. Letting my children learn and make mistakes, obviously not looking for ways to make mistakes or putting our selves in difficult situations but that they are going to happen and my role as a Mother is to help guide my children through those times with the help of Lord, so that my children (and myself) can hopefully learn what we need to learn from that experience and grow stronger in whatever area it may be.
Also, thank you for this podcast you do! I am a relatively new listener (a month now lol) and I seriously cannot believe how excited I am to read the scriptures for the week and then listen to your podcast to see what insights you and your guests have to share. I really hope I can remain on the scripture study train I have finally jumped back on to!!!

I was reminded during this beautiful discussion of an experience I had with a work colleague who was always picking on me and I felt just enjoyed being mean in general...one example was after returning from days off taken because my husband had a heart attack and i supported him thru surgery...the first thing she said to me when i walked into the office was " so i guess youve had enough of lying around at home watching tv"...I recall the hurt and anxiety I felt just trying to go to work..but I was trying to "be like Jesus" so I didnt get why someone would be cruel when I didnt do anything wrong... and then I remembered that I dont know others life stories, and I prayed a most prayingest prayer to help me to see my colleague as God does .... I was then blessed with an ovewhelming sense of love for my colleague who was locked into her own maladaptive patterns of engaging with others and I didnt have to bear the weight of her pain....how liberating and beautiful was this time, to where I could engage openly and with love, whilst also keeping myself safe from her intended barbs, because God showed me that she is His precious child and only they together knew her and her depths...Im so grateful to this experience for the growth I have gained. And my compassion for others has increased also....thank you for this, love you guys, spechly Dr Lili🥰💖

I have gotten so many great nuggets on this episode! I love the meaning and the examples given of ‘anti-fragile’. I look at the stories in scriptures so different now and ‘liken’ it into myself!
I’ve definitely shared this with others! Thank you thank you!!

Moments of significant personal revelation over the years continually came to mind during this episode. Some of the points made here are already in practice in my life. Others will become part of my daily life.
I’ve spent many hours in the office of a therapist dealing with the mental health challenges I have. I’ve railed and whined in “why me?” tantrums. I’ve wept in shame for the hurts and traumas I’ve caused. I just figured that I would spend the rest of my life in and out of therapy because I saw myself on a hamster wheel going nowhere.
Then, I had to get a new therapist. I found a woman who is a fellow Latter-Day Saint. Her perspective is eternal and centered in Jesus Christ. ALL our conversations included gospel doctrines and principles at work in my life. I was finally able to FORGIVE and REPENT fully. It took A LOT of effort and hope to get here. I no longer backslide quite as far when I make mistakes. I have learned the truth of “all things work together for our good”. Jesus Christ makes all the difference.

Thank you for confirming what I've been feeling. My mother was abusive and is very toxic. I was taking care of her because she has dementia but became too abusive and even hit me. Some people in my family who are not members think I have no patience for her. I truly can't take anymore abuse. I feel bad for her but don't want to be near her. So thank you! I've been feeling guilty for the way I feel! I've learned so many awesome things from this program! Thank you ❤❤❤

I love Dr. Anderson so insightful. I’d like to add something Dr. Laura used to say about honoring parents that really helped me.
(Paraphrasing) You honor parents that are honorable. In other words if they are honorable themselves. That really put things into perspective for me as I had immense guilt because my parents were not honorable and I had poor boundaries. She too, discussed the difference between normal human mistakes and the toxic/dangerous behaviors. She reserved honor for the normal human mistakes and not the toxic category.

It was so cool that you brought up Jonathan Haidt's books. I first learned of him from his work on moral foundations theory, which is also excellent. This discussion of the necessity for trials in our life is a perfect place to bring up his research on antifragility!

I truly enjoy your podcast each week. There was only one thing I wish you would have mentioned this past week. You spoke of Reuben betraying his father by being with Bilhah, but you don’t mention that Reuben was the one who talked his brothers out of killing Joseph. He suggested the pit and then went do work with the herds. While he was gone, his brethren listened to Judah and sold Joseph. When Reuben returned, he found the pit empty. He’d planned to return Joseph to their father. So even though he makes some wrong choices, he does have some good qualities.

The Old Testament is my favorite Book of Scripture. The people are so human I can see Joseph learning from Reuben's mistake and running from Potiphar's wife. The brother's jealousy. Joseph was waiting on the Lord to deliver him from prison, hopeful that the day would come soon and remembering the dreams. Jacob protects Benjamin and mourning Joseph. Judah meets someone as lonely as he and unwillingly fulfilling his promise to her, although unbeknown at the time. You watch these families growing up, making choices, seeing their strength and determination. I just love Reuben and the way he tries to look out for Joseph and Judah the strong, Simeon and Levi the just. It is hard to stop reading when I start reading, so I found myself in King, and today I am returning to Genesis to be with you. Thank you for this podcast. The Old Testament is my favorite Book of Scripture. The people are so human I can see Joseph learning from Reuben's mistake

What a wonderful lesson on how to apply the scriptures in daily life. I truly felt the spirit through this lesson. This is what our gospel doctrine class is supposed to do - teach us how to liken the scriptures to our own daily life. I love to listen to the podcasts that do a deep dive into doctrine but they teach me knowledge . This lesson taught me scriptures according to daily life and God's love for his children. It was powerful.

I can attest to the truth of all things working for our good! In my youth President Kimball commended D&C 100:15 to me. Another experience I had was while reading my Patriarchal Blessing. I was in the midsts of divorce. I was reading my blessing and while reading the line “You will be an influence for good in all of your undertakings.” had my mind immediately ask, “Oh, Father even in the midsts of divorce?” It was that fast; I didn’t ponder or stew over the question at all. It was the following Wednesday while at the temple a worker pulled me aside and asked me questions and I shared the many miracles, protections and interventions that Father was performing/placing in my life. At the end, the temple worker embraced me and said, “I’m sorry you have to go through this in order to increase my faith” (may not be an exact quote). While within that embrace, Father says to me: “Even in the midsts of divorce.” Yes, Father can use good bad beautiful and ugly horrible messes for good!
