I've been saying this sine I got mine months ago... for the price the Boker is SO solid and such a great EDC knife. I love how solid and substantial it feels (liners have no milling and I like it). I call the shape "the Tactical Butter knife"
Hi aeron.the shaking sound comes from the ring which is free turning around the stop pin.mine has no symetrical isues.thanks my friend enjoy to watch your videos
Aloha from Hawaii! I've been car6eying my Kihon for almost a year now here in Hawaii. Rust isn't as bad an issue as I thought it would be, but I did bend the flimsy pocket clip. Fortunately, Amazon has a replacement if you search for "titanium deep carry Spyderco pocket clip" and retain the original screws. The thumbstuds seem to be in a bad spot for deploying the blade, so I just pull the lock back and flick it out.
I used the link in your review of the multi-tool that was available on amazon. There was a delivery failure. I don't know if that's a total Amazon problem or a link problem but I'm going to try and find that video again and take one more shot.
I've been very happy with my Kihon. It's been a part of my EDC for about 6 months. Some great points were made in this video about pros and cons. I bought 1 for me and 2 for late xmas gifts. For it's price I feel it's a great buy.
Thanks for the comparison. I’m looking at so many tools right now, and budget edc’s are not one of them. I’ll put them on my lists and tend to them later. As of now I favor the Kershaw.
1. excellent review 2. my need is different. I don't wear a folder with a clip. Why? Because I wear running shorts almost 365 days a year. 3. today, I am carrying an old used Spyderco Endura with the broken plastic clip shaved off. I have a few like this. 4. despite my training, my age and lack of dexterity directs me to a spped-safe Kershaw 3655 if I think I might into a situation requiring quick deployment. I have taken off the metal clips.
I've had some great luck with Boker over the years. Definitely had some bad ones. Their big negative seems like their expansive lineup leads to lower QC mass produced knives. When they're good, they're great. When they're bad, its pretty much a total failure. I still support them because they end up producing a ton of great designs at a reasonable price. Great knives for work
I feel like for Boker it's a missed opportunity. The knife is great overall, but they opted to go with not skeletonised liners. That made the knife feeling much heavier than it could/should be. I don't understand the reasoning of that move. To cut the cost? I would assume that it could be much more popular than it is if it was lighter. For heavy use folder I will stay with Griptilian any day of the week. Its lighter, with a better steel, even for more money. Its totally worth it. Hope Boker will release more premium version of the this knife. With no cutting of corners. But for now, it's more of a disappointment for me unfortunately.
A large percentage of the customer base lives in states that cap legal carry for a folder at 3.5”. Mass produced knives will naturally match with what the masses can carry.
So many that look like this! From China i too have some of those for beater knives conversely check out the bestechman ronan, and the miguron moyarl both are cross bar locks ,and blade steel is 14c28n.
I love Kershaw & Boker , but Id go with the Boker in this case , after seeing your review. That Boker design just connects better with me & a decent price point for what your getting in materials. The pivot wobble & side/side movement in the Kershaw is not for me. Thanks GT
East pick for me........Boker. Don't like the blade shape on the kershaw. Plus its loose. Its plain. Its a shorter handle. Harder to deploy. Not as robust. He is absolutely right about the pocket clips. Plus its cheaper by a good amount, at that price range. Like I said, easy choice.
I think i would prefer the Boker. The rattle is surely annoying but the play in the blade would drive me nuts 😅. Also can we expect a review of the new Lionsteel KC-01 from you at some point in the future? Its probably hard to come by i guess. I think its supposed to be a limited run for now or something
I had this knife on my wishlist for a long time but always put off buying it I think it’s a great user but really is underrated and not talked about enough. Thanks for the vid!
I've been looking at the Kihon since it was announced. I have one of the original Ti versions and I love it. Also, "genilla" is going to be my new term for generic vanilla designs
On mine it's the pin that stops the blade that rattles, I was worried I got a bum knife but sounds like Boker just Phoned it in on some aspects. still a good knife though
I have torture tested many knives from both Kershaw and Boker. They both have made great knives... In an emergency, I would much prefer to have one of my Kershaw knives.
Boker>Kershaw. My pick. Kershaw's MSRPs are all over the place. Böker is more consistent, they even have dedicated budget lines, which includes the Mermaid.🤣
Hello G.T., hope all's well with everyone/thing! Both are great, why choose only one? Keep up the good work and vids... Be safe and take care, "God Bless", sincerely, Randy. 😇🙏👊
G'day Aaron, think I've mentioned before, the Heist really reminds me of the BM Freek, ..... one of the lesser butterfly taxed models ; ) I expect because of the half length liners, which incidentally, together with the light weight handle material, results in quite a forward blade weighted job, ... which I do get on very well with. However, I usually do go with full liners regardless and I reckon either of these designs will suit those that want/need a decent/solid all round folder, without breaking the bank, .... personally I'm not a fan, but if one is happy enough with D2, you probably cant go wrong. And yep, with ya mate, wire pocket clips are superior practically, .......... wish I had 'em across the board. Cheers Duke.
@@dualsportoutdoors the problem in budget pricing is getting someone to care about the heat treat. S30v in budget would not put a good heat treatment on it. Waste of steel then.
D2 is so hated for what. It doesn’t rust if you take care of it. It holds a very nice edge unless you are literally chopping wires with it. It’s cheap. It’s great.
No sponsors here my friend, Kershaw sent me the heist last year and Boker sent this one to me. I don’t give a rip about Kershaw or Boker, I am sharing my experience and feelings on both. Especially pointing out the bokers bad grind and yucky deployment. If I was buttering up to them I would not have pointed that out. I know both companies will see this comment and I could careless. You the viewers are who I care about and wish to inform.
The key word was D2 that's why it's so cheap we need to quit we need to get rid of D2 it's older than you your family and me and my family put together😢
Thanks for putting the price up front where it belongs.
That rattling would drive me crazy on the boker as would the blade play on the kershaw. For the price I would look at the vosteed raccoon

I bought a boker Plus Nebula and it broke after i dropped it on the floor. It was closed at the time but something broke in the pivot.
I miss the kihon auto that blade hq used to sell. Been looking for one of those for a while now 😢
Nice review, covered the aspects people are most interested

Interesting, I do know that they sold out so maybe you place the order and their stock inventory hadn’t caught up yet.

I just watched your other video on the Kershaw Heist G10 and bought one about 5 minutes ago. I love Kershaw knives. Thanks for the content.
Right on!

Both are at a great price point. I like both, but I'd do the boker. Very classy and my hands are XL-XXL.
So close. Can we please get 3.5 to 3.75 inches. Come on companies get some proper blade lengths!
That would be great!
Totally agree!!!! I try and never buy less than 3.5".
@@4673962Amen. I like 4 inches too.
And proper thickness too (3.5 - 4mm)

Totally!!
Good review and points to ponder! I've always been a fan of Kershaw, I'm going to have to think this through.

Almost invented a new word... Generic + Vanilla = Genilla 😂 3:50
I had this knife on my wishlist for a long time but always put off buying it I think it’s a great user but really is underrated and not talked about enough. Thanks for the vid!
Thanks Aaron. Nicely done review. Appreciated.
My pleasure!
I've been looking at the Kihon since it was announced. I have one of the original Ti versions and I love it.
Also, "genilla" is going to be my new term for generic vanilla designs
Hardside Swig Rig Ultralight in one side of my pack, with the Grayl Ultrapress in the other...hard to beat!
Perfect combo!
Kershaw missed the boat by having the Heist made in China. A knife made in China is an automatic no.
On mine it's the pin that stops the blade that rattles, I was worried I got a bum knife but sounds like Boker just Phoned it in on some aspects. still a good knife though
Aaron - does the Cold Steel Air Lite drop point compare favorably to thee two knives?
Totally and someways might be the stronger Knife I prefer AUS 10steel to D2.
Both sound good, probably would go with the hiest .
I have torture tested many knives from both Kershaw and Boker. They both have made great knives...
In an emergency, I would much prefer to have one of my Kershaw knives.
Check out the SRM Rubik if you think the Kihon cross lock is $!!! I was blown away!!! So smooth with the ball bearings!!
The Golden Age of Crossbar Lock knives...Benchmade, who's that?
That hydration system....got to have one. Didn't know they existed.
They rock!
Hay bro I'm barley getting into blades which one is good for my first time???
It really will come down to size do you like some thing a little bigger and beefy or do you want something a little slimmer?
D2 steel: automatic nope in my eyes. Too much maintenance required.
I got the heist it's cool knive.the boker good-looking knive also.
The action on the Boker seemed fine to me
Boker>Kershaw. My pick. Kershaw's MSRPs are all over the place. Böker is more consistent, they even have dedicated budget lines, which includes the Mermaid.🤣

D2 shouldn't cost more than 40 max. The Kershaw was not a good value. Throne? Lol no. No d2 knife is on any throne.
If anything the best price for crossbar and d2 is ganzo.
Fair point. I do have a couple D2 knives I really like though.
D2 is a $10 steel at best. It's time we start seeing S30V in the budget market
@@dualsportoutdoors the problem in budget pricing is getting someone to care about the heat treat. S30v in budget would not put a good heat treatment on it. Waste of steel then.

KEY-HONE-A
Kihon.... not "kee-hone" means basics or fundamentals in Japanese
I see D2 - I run.
Kershaw Link - US-made Magnacut for less than $100.
Bought the SMKW exclusive-black to red scales- it's awesome!
Awesome breakdown 👏🏼....made in Asia....not for me.
Thanks for watching!
cool
I am so sick and tired of seeing D2 Tool Steel. Pocket knives. Should have 14C28N Sandvik stainless steel.
D2 is so hated for what. It doesn’t rust if you take care of it. It holds a very nice edge unless you are literally chopping wires with it. It’s cheap. It’s great.
They are not even the same type of knives besides the locking system, so to compare and butter up to the sponsors does not seem too honest.

Cross-bar/axis locks are a lot of hype. I gave a friend a cross bar knife as a gift, the lock didn't enthrall him.
They are both made in Chyna, and I'm not buying either one
I prefer the Heist looks.
D2 is a $10 steel. It's time we start seeing VG10 and N690 at $20-30, S30V at $30-50, and S35VN at $50-70
And actually you couldn't even give me that knife That's how I feel about D2❤
😂😂😂 When I started collecting, AUS 8 or ATS34 were the bomb! When KaBar did the D2 in 2000 it was revolutionary! Funny how time changes!
I like it
This is horrible, I regret ever subscribing to this channel……my budget is suffering. I certainly don’t need a new knife, but that’s a great value
Hahah!!! Sorry 😉
I really think these videos could be a lot shorter.
As for me Kershaw a winner ING knives company.i got them .
The key word was D2 that's why it's so cheap we need to quit we need to get rid of D2 it's older than you your family and me and my family put together😢
D2 isn’t very good and stop buying Chinese junk. All you are doing is funding our enemies.
Can't do a china knife.
The lock is strong?boker
