Hey bro I worked in the office majority of my life but since I was laid off in 2021 due to Covid I decided to get my CDL at 38 years of age. So far I worked at 3 trucking company’s 7 months experience. (1.Dollar General OTR) (US Foods local) and now JB Hunt OTR regional. So far it’s not working out for me I was recently put on a 3 month Probation because the door on my trailer wasn’t secure when I was backing in and when I backed into a dock my door pushed it in. It technically wasn’t my fault because the trailers here are in bad shape. Just the idea of being put on probation makes me want to look for something else or give up on CDL all together. I have been looking around FedEx seems like a cool job.

Or you can get a trailer filled with different stops and execute them and then do pickups afterwards or at the same time depending on the timeframe and location.

I don't want to waste my time with a bad career. I just want a good career and like you, I changed careers. I was formerly a teacher. I can still go back to teaching but teaching is no longer a fulfilling position. So I decided to take the plunge and get my CDL A. I have that and all I need to do is get my endorsements.
As for the other companies I mentioned. Some claim to offer bells and whistles, but all I read here and elsewhere, are complaints. However, I don't see too many complaints coming from FedEx drivers. Most of the time, they are extremely happy and the driving skills FedEx offers carry over to linehaul and of course, FedEx Ground. Lastly, I see that North Arlington, NJ has a City Driver Apprentice program as well. I'll look into that too. I think the area is nice as compared to Elizabeth, NJ. I'll just have to see where I can get a job. Thank you again, thank you for your service, and stay safe!

@@johnb.399 once you get in transfers are available you’ll just lose seniority. Either way so far it is fulfilling to me, and can be lucrative as well. Sorry to hear that the passion for teaching dwindled we need good educators around. I’d like to hear on your progress keep me advised and your thoughts on the program if and once you get in. Good luck! 🍀

I work at the North Arlington FedEx. The Elizabeth one is merging with us in a couple months. We don’t have a city operation here but that will change once we merge. We will cover NYC! Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens and west Chester I think too. Our city operation is basically just picking up containers from the rail yard! Pretty easy money but that will change soon! No complaints thou.
