It is wonderful that this work is being done to preserve those great old comedies. They deserve to be rescued. I hope they can do the same work on the silent Laurel & Hardy comedies.

I always like to hear about these technical things about sound and movie recordings and this is from someone with first hand experience , not just speculation from someone making a video.

Watching this again really makes me interested in collecting Laurel and Hardy: The Definitive Restorations Blu-ray.
Hopefully, there'll be more restored Laurel and Hardy shorts in the future.

In the past, I'd always wondered why the prints of L&H and other early 30s Roach films looked so much rougher than the same era's films from other studios.

I'm building a time machine so I can go back and get the original negatives so we can digitize them.

Just to pick you up on one minor point and frankly it’s no big deal. Greatest American comedy team, one of them is British. Perhaps you meant American cinema. I would say the Greatest comedy ever and it’s brilliant that such care is going into preserving them for future generations.

You try to get out of the back seat of a Model T with a bandaged up foot, and you'll be swearing too! Ha ha!

Is there a list anywhere of what restorations have been completed, and which are ongoing? Also, is there a blog or record of the work done on each specific title? I'd love for these to be released on bluray so what was almost lost forever can be owned en mas.

I find this process absolutely fascinating and how they can rescue films from almost dust is nothing short of AMAZING!! I wonder how many Laurel & Hardy classics have been lost forever due to TOTAL IDIOTS!! not storing them or handling them correctly?

@3:45 MacQueen states that for the first 1 minute Edgar Kennedy is out of frame. This is not true. He is only out of frame for about 15 seconds.
    ruclips.net/video/vqVA4WzIAOc/видео.html
It appears filmed this way as the camera pulls back and pans left to show him. Also, how would MacQueen know that Kennedy was cut off from view for a minute if the opening to the camera negative was no longer in viewable condition?

At 3:43 he shows an example, before and after restoration. He is referring to the negative master copy which has more film information on the left hand side. When they get transferred to print with the audio systems he mentioned they lost some of the frame on the left hand side.
