You said it has image stabilization (or I heard incorrectly?) but I can't find it in the description on Amazon or B&H. Does it have OSS or IS? - thank you for sharing your thoughts!
I was wrong - it’s not stabilized itself. Only via the in-camera stabilization. Note will be placed in the description. Thanks so much for catching that!!!
Thank you for the video. We know the sharper it is the more time you will spend on computer in the portraits photography . :-). I like the 55mm more, bc of the size and weight .
Great review thanks for it. I have the same lens and very very happy with it. Wondering which 24mm or 25mm should I buy to match the 50mm 1.4 in terms of colour and contrast? I had a go with Batis 25 but not sure which 20mm or 24mm G or G master lens will be the best match. Thanks in advance
Thank you! I personally kept the 24mm GM over the 25mm Batis for its 1.4 aperture and manual controls, and I use it in tandem with the 50mm 1.4 all the time. They match colors wonderfully. I’ve got a couple reviews on the lenses on my page. Haven’t tried the 20mm yet. Hope that helps!
fyi, there is a trade off optically between this lens and the 55mm. The 55mm 1.8 is actually sharper stopped down. Just thought I should mention it. I'm still torn between buying the 55mm 1.8 and 50mm 1.4 for this reason and the extra weight.
The 55 f1.8 is not sharper stopped down. The 55 f1.8 has better uniform sharpness from center to corners but the 50mm f1.4 has better absolute sharpness in the center. Roger Cicada from Lens Rentals has an excellent MTF and comparison of both lenses where he discusses this
@@MattJackson_RUclips thanks so much for weighing in. A Sony shooter myself I’ve been shocked we don’t already have a 50mm g master so I’ve been eying this lens on eBay for a while. Looking to pull the trigger now. Thanks again!
@@MattJackson_RUclips Sorry to insist, but if you shoot wide open, you will not see any blades shapes in your bokeh! These only matter if you shoot stopped down!
WRONG : It does not come with in-body stabilisation "or whatever you want to call it" wile you look at the lens. This is totally sloppy way of approaching Your choosen responsability. (IBIS : in camera stabilisation : Yes if camera has it. OS ; lens stabilisation in this particular lends: No.). You should delete and replace your video.
@@eggr17ify Well, it was meant for anyone's sake. I can highlight another misleading statement made here, since You like them: "So sharp you can't miss anything".
That lovely swirly bokeh is a zeiss trademark that speaks a characteristic vintage look. Something that sigma art lenses doesnt do.
Love all things Zeiss!
Great review man!
Thanks Eli!

@@MattJackson_RUclips hi! Thanks for clarifying . Too bad it doesn’t have IS!
@@marcoaslan Agreed. The Batis lenses do, however. Slightly slower lenses but still amazing.
@@MattJackson_RUclips ahh!! That’s good to know . I will look them up! Thank you!

If weight is a contributing factor, then the 55mm is definitely the better bet. The 50mm is crazy heavy, but that's why I like it.

How’s the video AF on this lens?
It’s fantastic! As fast as the GM lenses for sure.

I think that’s probably why there’s no GM - this lens is SHARP as heck, fast, and pretty much a GM level lens. You’ll go back to it again and again.
Just got one for $320 and scouring reviews after 😂
Ehm... if you shoot wide open, it doesn't make any difference if the aperture blades are 11, 8, or 3...
It matters in the form and style of the bokeh and background. 11 will create a smoother and rounder look while less blades create more rigid lines.
@@MattJackson_RUclips Sorry to insist, but if you shoot wide open, you will not see any blades shapes in your bokeh! These only matter if you shoot stopped down!
Yessss I see what you mean. You are indeed correct, sir.
It makes a huge difference with regard to the bokeh more and more people are keen on (except me).
