Its like watching animal planet: The young pack of snipers have been stalking a traveling herd of Taliban men for weeks. They finally manage the track the herd grazing at a field of corn, vulnerable. Slowly the snipers take up their positions, carefully eyeing the grazing talibans as they approach. One taliban perks its head up from the fields, possibly catching the scent of predatory snipers upwind. Wary that their prey would escape, the snipers finally make their move. They surprise and take out the youngest taliban of the herd while the remaining grazers disperse. The snipers will eat well tonight."

a lot of marine tactics were inspired by the ss. fire and maneuver being the most fundamental, blitzkrieg tactics the most broad (obviously universal to the wehrmacht). its a kind of a counter culture thing adopted within the marine scout sniper community that got a lot of public backlash recently. i think it goes without saying that marine scout snipers have no ideological connection to the ss or the nazis. the marine corps is the closest thing to a waffen ss equivalent, with both having a weird place within their respective militaries. this specifically is nothing to be alarmed about.

As grunts we have a job to do, and deciding when and where we go to war is not our job. When it has been decided that we are to be sent somewhere our job revolves around the battlefield. Keeping each other alive and killing the enemy is our job. In the particular case of a sniper, they are tasked with dealing with threats that could cause future or continued harm or loss of life. You can't possibly think a Marine grunt on the ground is speaking for the entire US foreign policy can you?

pur3gre3k254 that's a very strange way of looking at it, I don't quite know what you're trying to say. are you saying that the footage has been cut up to show a random dude and not the actual guy the marine is engaging or are you saying the media told the marine to kill that guy in the field so they can spin a story. Either way you cant tell from the footage that the guy in the field is just a "normal guy" you need to remember that the sniper has a much better view of the target he's engaging than you or I, using range finding equipment and thermal imaging to identify him, he could have been firing at them a couple of days before hand and they recognised him, maybe he was spotted giving their position over on a radio to Taliban fighters which would make him a valuable target to eliminate. I'm not saying that innocents don't get killed due to poor PID it does happen but not nearly as often as you'd think. Whilst serving in Iraq I witnessed one false death incident and you wouldn't believe the shit storm that occurred afterwards from both our own side and the enemy (it wasn't any of us brits or the yanks that did it by the way) I think at the end of all the discussion and silly youtube comments the fact remains that a war is a fucking war people die and people get really badly hurt sometimes civilians get caught up in it all whether through shit PID or just cross fire it happens and will always happen in every war still to come

In the 90s Osama was tracked via cell phone calls and even in the 80s we had voice analysis machines which were accurate to 97 percent.
FYI for an example of basic technology in use all that used in the MIssion Impossible films is actually real.

Cheyenne Takitimu Maybe they purposefully reused it because it's a symbol that its easily identifiable from a distance, easy to mass produce on uniforms, and easy to understand the meaning behind it. Those are some of the same reasons why a lot of countries' flags look alike even though the countries themselves are very different. Maybe it's poor taste but if we treat things like that as if they are the devil and should never be used or mentioned because someone out there might be offended when all they are is symbols then we are delving into the political correctness argument.
