Great vid man, always love hearing about new OOT and MM developments. Hell, I remember when Ganondoor was new.
"holy grail" and "first cycle skip" might be a little misleading in the sense that you still have to do all of first cycle, it's just that the waiting for the clock tower to open is now skippable. being able to skip the clock tower, or the segment leading to clock town, or the song of healing cutscene, would all be more meaningful in a speedrun context.
this glitch is amazing and long sought after and opens up a lot of possibilities. just don't want people getting the wrong idea that the MM "holy grail" is underwhelming, when there's actually 22 minutes of unskippable tutorial at the start of every run still.
yeah no absolutely, it’s more so that this opens a lot of opportunities for stuff both within the traditional RTA setting and others. i think this is the first real bridge we have to making that opening 22 minutes feel more of a part of the run rather than a necessary evil of every run. i think the real “holy grail” is what it is in conjunction rather than what it is in isolation. I also disagree with the verbiage of “first cycle skip” but i think it’s the most mainstream understanding of what “first cycle skip” is as opposed to warping to the moon from lost woods or something. When looking back at old theories for this it was always referred to first cycle skip even though it’s technically not, so even though “human in first cycle” is and should be its definition it’s what most people think of it seems.
@@JakeZSR Yeah there’s two big flaws with the current skip: you need to be on day 3 to do it, and you still need to go through every cutscenes from first cycle. So it doesn’t skip much. Still, it will probably lead to decently big rerouting for 100% and even any% possibly.

Man, I'm always astounded at how much there still is to learn in these games.
I've always found the N64 Zelda games (and a lot of N64 games in general) to be quite beautiful in that regard. They have just the right amount of jank to make things like this possible.
There's something to be said for a game that has almost 25 years of staying power.
A lot of developers find glitches and patch them out immediately, but they usually provide some really interesting gameplay when looked at in the right light.
We got really lucky that MM and OOT came out just before internet patching was a thing (though later ports were patched).
Anyways, cool stuff! I'm interested to see what sort of ramifications this will have on the various categories.
No stone left unturned, and when the community ran out of stones to turn, they began to pry open loose tiles.
The speedrunning community doesn't cease to amaze me, I can't wait to see what developments come from this discovery.

whenever something gets routed that uses it. ideally we find a way to restricted items easy on english so NPM is benefitted.
