First off the divisive terminology that people are compelled to use continually changes so cut her some slack. Secondly we are all people and as long as we want to continue to focus on our “differences” we will never be United as a people. @@scottydu81 she's talking about ethnicity vs nationality. Whites make up such a large percentage of the population that smaller groups are afraid of losing their culture. We're all American but there are foods, music, customs, etc that smaller groups don't want to lose. Holding on to the hyphen is a good way to acknowledge both. So I get African-American, Korean-American, Italian-American, etc. Having "seasonal labels" though just causes unnecessary confusion. You shouldn't be called a racist for not understanding that. If we're willing to talk and really listen to each other, without the name calling, we'd understand each other better. I’ve never been a white man so I'm not going to tell him what life is like for him. I'm going to listen to him tell me about his life. @@brownvirtue The thing is, it’s not that I don’t understand that. I completely do, and I disagree with her assessment. Black suffering was part of our history, at no point in my entire life have I never not been aware of that. However, we have large organizations and individuals who, through secret financing or direct activism, profit from keeping black suffering front and center in American politics. I don’t agree that black people are treated worse, I feel like they have protected status. There are books dedicated to listing just how many ways a young black person can qualify for college. All sleights against you from anyone are broadcast loud and clear, and the goalposts for when anti-racists stop acting like actual racists will never stop moving. There will always be one more person who has a grievance and the cycle starts over again. I’m tired of the fighting. I’m tired of having to pretend burning down buildings is an appropriate response to fuck-all that’s actually happening. I’m tired of far-left activism being the norm for all discussions. I’m tired of feeing that it will never be enough, no matter how far things have advanced.
I may be wrong, but I'm going to assume that you aren't American because of your spelling of "colored." In America, the term "colored" is associated with segregation and racial discrimination. During segregation businesses, hotels, bathrooms, water fountains, etc had signs - "white only," "colored only" "No coloreds allowed." It really wasn't that long ago. In fact segregation still existed when my mom was a teenager. There are a lot of people still alive who lived through that - people who were discriminated against and people who fought to keep things segregated. It's not a word that you hear regularly in the mainstream. The assumption is that those who supported segregation would be the only ones to continue using it and that they used it around their children who then used it around their children. It would be possible then that they passed their prejudices and bigotry down as well. That assumption may be wrong and may be unfair, but as long people who lived through those times are still alive, the sensitivity will still be there. I'm not aware of any negative connotations associated with the terms white or Asian, so I can't think of a reason why either term would be offensive. Chances are this woman would not have received the same reaction from the audience had she said black children or American children.
@@WinningThisOne that’s awful. Black is black! My husband is part Indian and he refers to his family skin as brown. I wouldn’t usually say coloured but black - but apparently can’t say that either. I’m not sure what I’m suppose to say.

It is never enough. That's the point we need to understand. Everyone has implicit bias. It's part of being human. She's wrong to apologize and bend her mind to this ridiculous agenda.
@@lumberpilot you are right it will never be enough because you all just think you can say whatever and get away with it. We aren’t our grandparents. We are not gonna say “ yes sir massa” those days are gone
@@whoaremetojudge1478 Who is "you all?"

This is what happens when you let children run the show!
Simple minded ppl don’t understand this was a mistake (miss spoke) followed by a valid apology
I'm sure I remember that using the word black was offensive so you had to use coloured instead. Now coloured is offensive and you have to use coloured students?. 1 - what's the difference between coloured and coloured students? and 2 - can we please have the next acceptable term in advance so we are ready for when this one suddenly becomes offensive. You seriously can't win can't you.
WAKANDA FOREVAAAAAAA!
What’s the difference between colored and people of color 🤷🏻♂️
Good question there is now difference however she still could have used the term African American, that is what the topic is about. back in segregation days the Term *Colored ppl* and *people of Color* was used as a derogatory/Negative/Racist term for blacks over time society has twisted the term
*people of color* to mean more than 1 ethnicity or race
@@KayJayCrazy african american are africans that are now americans. Americans are americans. People need to stop labeling and seperating them selfs.. The goal is to be color blind not defined.
Wow .. I’m so embarrassed for her ... cringe 😬
Did the same thing when I first began a job in New York 28 years ago. But obviously there’s no ill will nor was there any with her - she just was unaware. People need to chill the F out
If ur going to be in a public position u gotta get it right the 1st time
Why is it ok to say people of color but not colored people? What is the difference?
People of color is a PC way to say colored people. It's a racist term too!
@@disc314 Is it that they just don't want to be seen as people?
@@Lmr6973 what do you mean by that??? It has nothing to do with how black people don't want to be seen, we WANT to be seen, it's the racist people that don't want US seen
It's a shitty thing to say, but it's fairly obvious she intended to say POC. And let's not forget she was literally talking about addressing racism between students, so I don't really see any malintent there.
Yes she misspoke but what’s the difference, people of color or colored people,African American or black people.I don’t agree with her conclusions either way but come on with this parcing of words just to make you feel better.in 1992 Ross Perot said you people at an naacp meeting and it killed his election chances because of this nonsense we are electing the wrong people.
I thought we were supposed to refer to them as people of color. What the hell was the issue?
Exaclty, cuz we are the only race to be called that, Ever heard the term *African American* ? She easily could've just said that, not *people of color* cuz back in segregation days BOTH terms was used as a derogatory/racial term for black people and we are thee only race that term is used for however over the years time, that term slowly became acceptable to society and is somewhat twisted into meaning more than one race ....alot people miss that part of information. I'll say this in regards to that black lady that was interrupting. I DONT agree with how she handled it. I DO agree with her being upset
Nothing
o geez, the confession! implicit bias! and those black women are children.
Back in the days saying the word colored got your ass beat and then a far left democratic white senator started addressing and pushing his staff to use the word people of color there is no difference both are offensive
Kick that racist off the board!
This is a true meaning of all things in a dark will come to light and it just so happened to come to light in the middle of school board meeting the truth came out can't take it back now🧐🤥🤭🤭
First off the divisive terminology that people are compelled to use continually changes so cut her some slack. Secondly we are all people and as long as we want to continue to focus on our “differences” we will never be United as a people. Those of you that support focusing on; lgbtq, people of color, women “problems” you are slowing the pace at which we could all come together and work on OUR PROBLEMS collectively.
Are you too dumb to realize that their problems are not be the same as your problems?
Everything was fine until you used the word "collectively." It brings up images of the gulag.
Shocker, we are not the same !
If you can say people of color, why can't you say colored people?
Lol
If that doesn't get her fired on the spot,,,,,then theirs the problem.
Wow, wow...she even admits she has racial issues. implicit bias???? Really?
She hasn't learned anything, she knew then and knows now just what she did and is doing. Her age tells you that she was taught this from home and the it is her culture.
She wasn't being racist.
Please explain to me the difference between "people of color" and "colored people".
So they are there to discuss treatment of black students and she uses a term associated with segregation and racial discrimination. I understand the audience's response given the topic of discussion. However, I do think it was a mistake and that she meant students of color.
This is why the phrase “people of color” is problematic in the first place. It’s literally “colored people” rearranged. It’s the same phrase.
@@scottydu81 hey, you're over here too! I can't get away from you 🙂 I agree the two are easy to mix up. It just causes a lot of confusion when descriptions/titles consistently change. It'd be nice if we just used American but I don't see that happening for many generations to come, if ever.
@@brownvirtue I got called racist for suggest just such a thing. She said I was "erasing her peoples's history and connection to this country". I feel like I just can't win in the racism discussion, because no matter what the definitions will always change to benefit "people of color".
I'm sure I'll learn plenty of things I never knew or never would have known if I hadn't talked to him. Without knowing you, she called you racist. Without knowing me you thought I was racist. Now we're having this interesting conversation.
What’s wrong with saying coloured? What are we aloud to say? Can I get offended if someone calls me white or Asian?
@@brownvirtue “People Of Color™️” is no different than “colored people”. Progressives and racists are the same people.
@@WinningThisOne that's ridiculous!
@@WinningThisOne that’s awful. Black is black! My husband is part Indian and he refers to his family skin as brown. I wouldn’t usually say coloured but black - but apparently can’t say that either. I’m not sure what I’m suppose to say.
Hahahahahaha
And she’s fired
So what should she have said? The goal posts keep getting moved. So now we can’t say “Colored students” but “Student of color” is okay? It’s like the black community wants to be considered their own culture, yet we cannot refer to them by any word other than African American, and most aren’t even African
Is she Latino or white?
It doesn't matter, Latinos can be white as well.
How is that a racial slur?
Colored People lol
