Only us old 60’s somethings can really appreciate what we had back in the day when the likes of The Bee Gee’s were around and giving us youngsters the music we danced to every weekend at the local disco.
The fact that they're just insanely talented songwriters with 1 hundred songs that they wrote for themselves as well as other artists being in the top 10 and their diversity is why their music has lasted over 7 decades. Their brother Andy Gibb was an amazing singer songwriter as well. He died too soon in 1988 at the age of 30. Mo died in 2003 and Robin in 2012. They are by far the most talented musical family in the history of music. RIP Andy, Mo and Robin.
The Explosion sound was made by Barry Gibb cupping the Microfone and using his voice to make the sound. The Bee Gees discovered their Falsetta's in Nights on Broadway. The Producer asked if they could make a screaming sound or sound excited. The Bee Gees kept Harmonizing Higher and Higher. They discovered all had the Falsetta' s but Barry could do it longest. In a Interview a month or so ago Barry Gibb said none of the Bee Gees could read music. He said he just found out notes had numbers. He said they never had training. They did not know that they were not suppose to be able to harmonize at certain levels. He said if they heard a sound they would match it or if One Brother made a sound the others would match it, He found out they wrote songs backwards from most Artists. Barry Gibb said the Bee Gees would Do the Music first and then write the Lyrics to fit the sound. He said they were very spontaneous.
I recently watched a video of them recording this record, which showed how they made the explosion sound. I also saw Barry's interview discussing their process. Isn't it great to learn about the behind-the-scenes?
Harmonies this tight are so difficult....but they made it look easy. That high in the range.....so glad they wrote songs. Those voices are too good not to be heard....so glad you’re enjoying them. Thanks for your reactions.😎
Anything you play by the Bee Gees gets my attention! Barry's over the top falsetto wasn't even realized until 1975. Then after that, the songs really started showcasing his high voice. Listen to "Nights on Broadway". Thanks!! I'm a big fan of the Bee Gees, and you gents.❤😉
The Bee Gees were a hit and very well known here in the UK long before Saturday Night Fever in the US.. we were all buying their hits ( All The original recordings In The Sat Night Movie Hits album. ) long before the movie was ever even thought of. They were asked if they could do disco songs for the movie and lo and be hold they said hmm we think we already have the songs your looking for.....So dont say they were never popular or made hits before the US asked them to do the movie soundtracks... I'm in my 70's and lived it....it sounds what your typing is something you found on the internet.....
@@oldschool72 You misunderstood what I said. The Bee Gees have been cranking out hits since the 60's. All I meant was that Barry was unaware he could even sing that high, that had always been Robin's part. It's in the new Documentary. Excellent.✌
There are so many brilliant songs. They wrote this song in the same afternoon that they wrote Too much Heaven. They never learned to read or write music and would sing the parts to others to convert. Geniuses. Love your reactions.
I'm a 55 year old woman, who is a Bee Gees fanatic!!!!! You're just getting started down the Bee Gees road. They have so many, many, songs. The brother Gibbs, our musical geniuses!!!!!! You think they're good now , you got many songs to go through.
I won tickets on a radio station to see them in 1979. We were late to the show because we got lost(prior to GPS). We walked in as this song started. The concert was phenomenal!
Guys, I love your reactions to Bee Gees! I come back to your reactions from time to time just to watch you guys LOVE my favorite group of all time! Your reactions are so much fun to watch. ❤️
Have you heard them sing too much heaven? Or Fanny be tender with my love? Or love you inside and out? These guys are angels I was so blessed to be able to see them in 1978. They have been around since the 60s they are the most successful band in my opinion one that has lasted 40 years❤️
All three have massive vocal range. You see this especially on Fanny be tender with my love, Wind of change(1979) , Nights on Broadway (1975 midnight special) and You should be dancing ❤❤❤❤
Love 💕 your reactions to this, you have a whole lot more to listen to as the Bee Gees are the greatest band ever 🤩 there talent is huge all three of them, there will never be a group like them ever again 😍
This is the response that is appropriate for this song. This song is indeed a masterpiece! It's between this one and Nights on Broadway for the best of their songs for me. The album version of Nights on Broadway not the live version.
I can be in the worst mood in the world and I put on the Bee Gees and they just make me dance and dance and I am all so in a completely different head space. I just love them!
When you're married for 36 years and he leaves and walks out the door... it's a tragedy but when I listen to this and many other songs of the BG's I feel enlightened and strong. Thank you for presenting this one
The Gibb brothers wrote over a thousand songs in several different genres over a five decade career. It's a shame that most people only seem to recognize their work from the 70s and the SNF soundtrack. That's a tragedy.
The explosion sound you just spoke of was Barry cupping his hands together in front of the microphone and making a loud blowing noise. should watch the making of it it’s brilliant
My all-time favourite live performance by the Bee Gees is from 1973, "I Can't See Nobody" (live on Midnight Special). Robyn sings lead vocals on this one, his voice is simply incredible.
Not all of their songs have the falsetto in them. Obviously the songs from the late 70's and early 80s have the majority of the falsetto in them. But really that is a small sampling of their entire body of work. They have amazing songs in just about every decade from the 60s to 2000s.
I remember buying the LP (vinyl!) when it first came out, years ago!! I was a teenager then and ADORED Tragedy, excellent song, music superb, Barry, Robin & Maurice - the best!!!
@steve urlich Find the documentary "This is where I came in" on you tube, which describes their childhood, career and relationships in more detail. I’m not thrilled with the hbo documentary at all, first because most of their interviews were taken from this one from 2001, then a lot of interviews with people talking about the gibb brothers. Much, much better and more meaningful is the 2001 documentary, which was made when their last album of the same name came out. By the way, great album, underrated.
Between 1977 and 1979 The Bee Gees had six consecutive Number One Hits in the U.S.Sometimes even 5/10 on the Billboard Hitlist (because they also composed for other artists)
I have to say those records behind you are perfectly arranged! It is fun watching you react to these fabulous Songs which are unequalled by anybody. Enjoy yourselves
The explosion sound was made by Barry cupping his hands around the mic and blowing air onto it. There's a video showing how he came up with the idea. 🤭
I love the 2 of you the most of all the reaction people that I listen to every day . A beautiful song is Paradise. If you get the chance to listen to it I can promise you that it will become your favorite song by The Bee Gees
The Bee Gees had nine singles reach number one on the Hot 100 chart - which, according to billboard puts them in third place for the most number ones in history, after the Beatles and the Supremes, and Tragedy was one of the 9. That doesn't include numerous No 1 hits written for other singers, Andy had 3 No 1 hits also written by the Brothers and Andy.
The Bee Gees wrote "Tragedy", "Too Much Heaven" and the #1 hit, "Shadow Dancing" for their baby brother Andy...all in ONE DAY! Would love to see you react to Barrys 2016 song, "Home Truth Song". His son Stephen plays guitar and is standing to Barrys right. It is a song about him looking back on his life and where it has taken him. It is from his album, "In The Now". ruclips.net/video/RDdG1bCLveE/видео.html

Seeing young people love the Bee Gees as much as we that grew up with them do makes my heart smile.
ikr totally agree
Bee Gees music will go on forever because of their talented gifts. Not only can they sing they wrote all of their own music .
Timeless
The Bee Gees are the masters of their game 👍🏻 second to none ♥️
Every Bee Gees song is great! Glad you guys are enjoying them!
The memories......
BeeGees are KINGS! Nobody could harmonize like the BeeGees. ❤ I love Disco and I love the 70s.
Fantastic song, but powerful meaning about emotional breakdown and depression. The lyrics are powerful if you listen to them
Barry (Hi falsetto) released an album on Jan. 8th 2021 and it hit #! in the UK within days.

Jeff Lynne of ELO also writes the music first then writes the words to fit.
George is my favourite Barry Gibb fan boy. The look on his face when Barry starts his falsetto always makes me grin.
Welcome to the world of the Bee Gees! You've opened the door to greatness. Keep listening to their music and enjoy the ride!! Hang on guys!! 💖💖💖
LOL "I couldn't pay attention to the lyrics,,," I wish I could experience this again for the first time too.
Their music still makes me dance!… and I’m 65 years old 😊❤

The explosion sound is actually Barry doing the sound with his mouth into the microphone lol

I’ve always adored the BeeGees so it gives me so much joy watching you guys loving this song. Pure unadulterated joy!
This song was so so different to 'Too Much Heaven '.Athough Tragedy and Too Much Heaven ' were produced on the same afternoon... Amazing ......😊❤

Their Greatest Hits is a quad album with like 55 songs on it…outrageous!
Oh the arrangement, textures, production are sublime
You guys should watch the making of the song Tragedy. You'll be amazed at how they made the explosion sound.
Great video.
BeeGees wrote this song and to much Heaven all in one day.
And Shadow Dancing that evening.
I swear, your reactions make these videos even better. Thanks for doing this.
Barry Gibb actually makes that sound by cupping the microphone and holding it close to his mouth
I would like to request Down the Road and Wind of Change from the Here at Last Bee Gees Live album in 1976. Thank You!

That explosion is done by Barry into the microphone

Listen to "You Win Again" and "Love You Inside and Out". I think you will enjoy both of those.
You're correct this music is timeless. Quality music will endure.
Get that "DUDE" on the right on a dance floor! He is feeling the pure talent of the Bee Gees!
Those "explosions" sounds you hear at 45:3, 5:28 & 6:00 (aprox) are actual sounds that Barry made at the microphone with his hands & mouth.
They have over 2000 songs in their music catalog.....that's a hell of songs. They are the best.....none better than the Bee Gees.

I was manager of a disco bar and this song was a nightly regular.
