@@kurtnagel3373There is a making of video that does indeed show Barry making the explosion sound, by mouth, into the microphone. It was probably enhanced at some point, but that's how it started. Can't remember the exact name of the video, but it's here on youtube.
One thing I recommend for all BeeGees newbies is to read the lyrics. They had a way of putting that funky sound to some very telling and serious words.Absolutely great song writers. They were also great at sharing life lessons through their songs.Makes you sit back and take notice.
And the older they got the more wisdom was included in their writing (more for us as listeners). Loved the early Bee Gees, but absolutely crazy about the post-Fever era of their music!
The lyrics and the sound from The Bee Gees will make your hair stand on end. Absolutely brilliant band . Sound of my childhood and the first record I ever bought , I was 11 years old.
Devin, you are so much fun to watch. I'm a baby boomer/child of the 70s, and the Bee Gees have been the soundtrack of my life since! Listen to them everyday and I'm now 67!!
Dude. Barry the lead singer MADE that explosion sound with his voice. Look in the comments below. I think theres a video showing them in the studio and him doing it!!! 🙌
If by "acting a fool" you mean being moved by the music Devin, THEN LET'S ALL ACT A FOOL! That my friend is what makes your channel so relatable to others! We love "honest" heart-felt reactions! I grew up with the BeeGees and happen to love their music, so it's nice to see the younger generation get into these songs. Keep those classics alive brother!
I was 11 years old, and my Daddy took me to see the Bee Gees. It was the first concert on the Spirits Having Flown tour. It was in Texas at the Tarrant County Convention Center. June 28, 1979. I won't ever forget it. It is such a joy to see your reactions to them. I am going down the list in order.
I have been a BeeGees fan since the sixties. I am the same age as the twins and was fascinated with the group’s talent, especially songwriting. I am now 71 and I am still discovering songs I had missed through the decades. Amazing talent.
I've been watching you do the videos on the Bee Gees and I love the way you do things you talk you have God in your heart God loves you keep doing the good work you do I love the Bee Gees I'm Fresno California God love
There's a great clip on RUclips of these three Musical Geniuses working on this track. You'll get to watch them having a lot of fun, while creating their very own, special kind of Pure Magic... 💖💖💖
There is a great little mini-documentary about the making of this song. It's really interesting to see the process My FAVORITE BeeGees song by the way is also their last song from 2001 I think. "This is where I came in" do the live version the official video tends to get blocked.
I know most of your reactions are at least a year old, but I've just started watching, and I always look for you for the reactions because you are so real with it. Especially the BeeGees. So glad to see that younger generations are being exposed to what I grew up with.
One of my favorite Gibb lyrics: “When the morning cries and you don’t know why” Does the morning cry??? Pop poetry at its best. The explosion was made with a combination of a vocal explosion by Barry - tripled, and an arm across the low keys on a piano or keyboard, fed into some kind of new mixing thing. My favorite Gibb album is usually whichever I am listening to at the time:) Please react to SPIRITS HAVING FLOWN.
You are great!!! Thanks for all those Bee Gees reaction. Please do "Closer than Close" reaction with Maurice as a lead singer. He was always my favorite ❤️ Send you lots of love from Poland 🇵🇱❤️
Barry made the sound of the explosion in the mic. The A and R guy had him go into the studio and do it again. He recorded it and used it throughout the song.
I love the Bee Gees!! They have so many it's hard to choose just one. All the brothers sing lead but mostly Barry and Robin as for Maurice he plays instruments and sings. He sing lead on Closer than close a great song. Some early songs are... To Love Somebody.... Lonely Days.... Massachusetts... How do you Mend a Broken Heart.... I've just got to get a Message to you...Happy ever after...To Be or Not to Be. So so many songs in their catalog. Love your reaction I can see you enjoyed it as much as the fans.
This is one of those essential Bee Gees songs. Question to fans: is this the song that Barry discovered he had this killer falsetto???? Just wondering cause sometime in the mid 70s he discovered that gift.
The BeeGees are the most eclectic group in history. Their sound/style changed many times over 5 decades. Everything you’ve done so far is just within 4 years. Can’t wait to see you venture before/after their disco yrs. Thanks for sharing!
Devin did you know that the explosion sound in this song, Barry made that sound by cuffing the mic and making the sound with his mouth. The man is a musical genius..
I'm so happy you went down the rabbit hole with the Bee Gees! They were popular when I graduated high school and I was a huge fan then as well as now! You are such a positive person with the spirit inside of you! Always stay that way!
Barry doing the falsetto. All the brothers could do it but they said Barry had the best control over his. They’re all just brilliant. Love them so much.
Did you notice the opening lyrics? They are very illustrative the idea of the tragedy of losing your soul "Here I lie, in a lost and lonely part of town. Held in time in a world of tears I slowly drown. Going home, I just can't make it all alone" So he is lying in a bed and THEN he is going home still alone and empty. Hmmm...
Lmao dude you have me rollen...... love your reactions ... I was so loving that time of my live I was 17 18 19 in the hight of disco. I lived in L A and bee gees was it... berry was my love.... lol I seen them in concert at dodger stadium the sprit tour.. classic... icons... thank you Devin for this good vibe. God bless
Not fireworks. Lightening strike. One of my favorite songs of theirs. Back in '79 I was at my best age and hitting the clubs every Thursday, Friday, Saturday nights. What a blast from my past!
Best album for me is Saturday Night Fever. I was a teenager during the time the Bee Gee's where hitting their high and it was a magnificent sound to grow up to. My memories take we back to the roller skating rink in my small town, using this music to feel free and alive while skating and maybe woo that pretty girl you want to roller dance with. So glad your keeping this music alive and showing the younger generations what "real" music sounds like. Peace.
Good reaction! So far you have mostly listened to the Barry falsetto period between 1975 and 1979. The two other brothers (particularly Robin) sing lead too. To get an impression of what they also sound like I suggest: Robin:Bee Gees- For Whom The Bell Tolls, Maurice: Bee Gees-Lay It On Me and Barry: Bee Gees- Words (Live 1979) and 1974 Bee Gees- Mr. Natural (Complete & Good Sound)
HOLY CRAP. You FELT it!!! Love it!!!! That was my absolute favorite reaction to this song, EVER. I definitely have to go back through your library. You are instantly one of my favs.
The explosion you hear is actually Barry making that sound into the studio mic. Check out the video of The Making of Tragedy behind the scenes. You’ll see him at the mic!
you have to watch this live its a totally different experience! i love how u are listening to all kinds of music like me! i listen to disco old school rap, r&b, soul ,country, alterative rock, hard rock heavy metal and i'm a 50 year old black woman from Chicago!
Please do their performance of " Nights on Broadway " the Midnight Special Version !! It is before the disco era and Barry's falsetto !! It is full of FUNK !! ❤❤
Their early influences were Black R&B singers, yet their record company pushed them away from that direction -- such a shame. Yet that feeling still comes through in so much of what they wrote.
I love your channel and how you look around at times to the sounds. I was a Trey in the 70’s and had The Bee Gees and other artists to listen to. We had the greatest music. I miss the 70’s.
Try: Massachusetts, Closer than close, Alone, One, Nights on Broadway (where Barry’s discovered his falsetto singing blame it on Nights on Broadway) Fanny, Jive Talking,First of May, New York Mining Disaster, Gotta got a Message to you, Living eyes, Mend a broken heart, Be who you are, Your love will save the world (unreleased 💎),I started a joke, For whom the bell toll, You win again... HUGE catalogue..! Toooooo many to name all..! By the way the dire sound, Barry’s did with his voice... No computer at the time...! Legendary icon, COLOSSAL,PHENOMENAL GENIUSES of music... Hard die fan of BG’s since I was 12... BG’s were music itself...!!!! 💔🙏🕊❤️🇬🇧💎🎸🎤🎼
Devin, your reactions are so funny.Love the Beegees, and love your reactions.I hope Barry looks at some of these videos,he’ll see how people born out of our generation, are loving the Beegees music.
I am 60 I’ve been listening to these guys for years for decades the 70s the 80s the 90s two thousands even into today. One of my favorite Bee Gees songs is called Fanny be tender with my love. Also you need to listen to a really old one that they wrote called run to me. Also to whom the Bell tolls. As far as a favorite album I can’t pick one.
Hard to top that one! But I recommend The Edge of the Universe! But I've got a few favs but at the moment has to be Nights on Broadway! It's on my Spotify playlist 3 different places! Love the beginning. "Here we are. In a room full of strangers..." There's a Bee Gees song for any mood!
Find "Cousins Gibb" (Nick Endacott Gibb, who is Maurice's son...and Debora McClane, daughter of Bee Gee's sister, Lesley), singing this slowed down as a ballad, it's very moving and beautiful. Thank You for all You do!! 💐💌
The bee gees are amazing and fantastic song writers as well as singers. The album bee gees one night only is my personal favourite. Also try looking up some of their older stuff from when they were teens to see the development of the band.
Here’s some more of their songs to try!!! Massachusetts Run To Me Jive Talking Love So Right Rest Your Love On Me Immortality - Barry Gibb (not Celine Dion Lonely Days This Is Where I Came In
I absolutely love your reaction to this song 💕😂. I remember when this came out. I was a freshman in high school. It was unlike any song on the radio. After this came the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack. It was the songs that set the tone for our high school years. It was an electric time in music and dancing. So much fun!
The explosion in "Tragedy " is created by Barry making noises into the microphone.....back then they didn't have machines to create explosions.
I think you worded that incorrectly. Machines did do that. Ask the people from Hiroshima. Oh wait you can't nevermind
@@kurtnagel3373There is a making of video that does indeed show Barry making the explosion sound, by mouth, into the microphone. It was probably enhanced at some point, but that's how it started. Can't remember the exact name of the video, but it's here on youtube.

And the older they got the more wisdom was included in their writing (more for us as listeners). Loved the early Bee Gees, but absolutely crazy about the post-Fever era of their music!
YES!! They had a way of putting to music the words we can't find to express some really deep truths.
You should watch the video of how the “explosion” sound was made, and their interaction in the studio. Fascinating.
Yep, Barry did the explosion! Fantastic. Musical geniuses they are!
I was just thinking of that one in their studio.. ha!
Who would had known? Amazing!!!
You have entered the Bee Gee’s rabbit hole. There are so many more amazing songs performed and written by them. Fanny Be Tender is my fav!
Give some love to Maurice and his bass on every song 💚
Most people don't recognize that he sings bass. He adds so much dimension to the songs
Love their early hits: Lonely Days, To Love Somebody, Massachusetts, I Started a Joke, Words
Love, love, love Words.
I always liked how to mend a broken heart and rest your love
"Tragedy " is off the charts!!!

I literally died watching you dance with your chair!🤣😂😅😆
What a ride! Explosive! Thrilling!
I have been a BeeGees fan since the sixties. I am the same age as the twins and was fascinated with the group’s talent, especially songwriting. I am now 71 and I am still discovering songs I had missed through the decades. Amazing talent.
They wrote this song and Too Much Heaven in an afternoon and later that evening wrote Shadow Dancing. All three were number one hits.
You tell em Jesus died on that cross for US. I LOVE BEE GEES
The dancing with your chair moment got me laughing out loud, you are so fun!
No question...too much heaven is my all time favorite Bee Gees song, although its hard to choose among so many!!!
I've been watching you do the videos on the Bee Gees and I love the way you do things you talk you have God in your heart God loves you keep doing the good work you do I love the Bee Gees I'm Fresno California God love
Fun fact: Barry is the one that made that firework sound
These guys are excellent singers and writers...Performers!! I'm so glad I got to see them the one time I did!!👏👏👏👏👏👏👏🇺🇸🇺🇸❤❤
