Thanks, love your channel. Quilting is just like life, lots of exceptions to the rules, as long as it is not hurting or damaging to either, it’s ok. Ha a great week.
Dwight Hill 💗Thank you so much! Your kind words fill my heart with joyful smiles🥰. Yes, lots of good options! And many exceptions to the rules... This week is off to an excellent start! Thanks for adding to the positives! 🤓🌸😎 Tutoluu!🤗
Paula Jo, WOOHOO! Thanks so much for your suggestions!! I tried loading with selvages PARALLEL to the bars, leaving a drape and using the ruler base, and voila! The second quilt was successfully quilted! (I also picked out a few small areas of the first baby clothes quilt and reloaded with a sag and the ruler base, and it worked out just fine!). I used the long magnets to reload the fix-up quilt!
🤓The Large Magnets are available at local Hardware Stores, big box home improvement centers, or online at Harbor Freight (on sale frequently at Harbor Freight) 💗The also wonderfully helpful small magnets that you often see in my videos are available at SederQuilts.com 🌸
Lisa Porche the bonus feature at the very end of this one shows how I load a finished quilt ...wrapping around the back bars, too. Also watch ... (let me go get the link...)
Lisa Porche and... if the backing hasn’t been trimmed off yet... I load the back bar with the Leader Grips... basicly very similar to this one... 🤔Hmmmm... I know we have filmed others that show loading the back in creative ways after turning or returning to the frame... I should upload some short short clips from the longer vid tutes, too... (sometimes the really helpful after thoughts are worthy of their very own video!) Here’s the link to my playlist of loading tutorials... I sometimes trim the “new edge going onto the backbar” ... so that it is kinda sorta straight... (I don’t square up the sides before loading the first time... I want as much side backing as possible... to clear the ruler base, etc)... I will often trim away the batting, or at least snip the outermost basting threads... ((I have a new favorite trick of basting a second side stitch (after the “quilt top side basting) at the “batting and backing edge”... we showed that kinda sorta towards the end of “loading all three layers”))
Lisa Porche ruclips.net/p/PLnOzCAgV_WsQee8HaAPEFnmZjPj800tGb 💗Thanks for all the love Lisa! If I can’t find the other clip I’m thinking of... we might need to make a new video or two!🤗🌸🤓🌸😎🌸😊
I’m learning lots from your videos. I have a HQ Avanti and your technique for using the long magnets looks like it would save me much time and frustration. Where can I purchase them? Didn’t see a link or anything in your menu under the video. Thanks and I look forward to your next video!
Terry Valentine 🤓excellent question! I ordered the long magnets from Harbor Freight (they are frequently on sale)... or they are available at many home repair or hardware stores. Now, the Small Magnets are difficult to find... so I actually have them for sale at SederQuilts.com 🌸 a set of 3 Small Magnets for $14.95 plus s/h in the USA... I also have Extra Strong Small Magnets set of 3 for $17.95 plus s/h in USA. 😊Thanks for asking! Tutoluu 🌸Paola Jo
Hi Paola Jo! I love your videos!!!!!! I am hoping you can help me...I made 2 baby t-shirt quilts for a customer, fusing the t-shirt cuttings before piecing them. She wanted them quilted lightly onto the bubbly-type minky or cuddle fabric. I did the first one, carefully loading the minky with the selvages perpendicular to the long arm bars to minimize stretching. However, it stretched unbeknownst to me! I started to notice this when I got to the bottom! I can pick some of it out, but since they are t-shirts, there will be some needle holes so I can’t pick the whole thing out. The parts I can pick out and rebuilt will really help, fortunately!! Now, I also have the second quilt to do....Could you kindly offer some tips for: reloading the quilt I need to adjust; and your tips for loading and quilting with minky bubbly fabric with T-shirt’s! I previously did a baby quilt with cotton piecing and minky, and had no trouble!!! Thanks so much!!!
Michele Gnazzo 🌸Hi and ! Yes I have some helpful hints! 🤓 (you knew I’d have some options to consider 😎) First : Relax, it’s all good. It’s a baby quilt, it will probably be washed many many times. The baby won’t mind any of the “problems” we quilters get stressed about: the sag or stretch or Scrunch of the Minky, the needle holes, wonkiness, etc. In my experience, babies, toddlers and kids of all ages LOVE Minky/Cuddle! (I’ll come back to re-loading...) For the next Quilt... I have tried loading Cuddle both ways. I have better control of Not Stretching if I ~Load the Salvage PARALLEL to the roller bars ~Use the RULER BASE ~Side Clamps should be A Tad Saggy. I have an Online Class for sale “What do you want on your Baby Quilt” that addresses these points (and more... you know me... I explain lots more when I talk😉) I have several free videos about Reloading with Big Magnets. ~I would re-load the first Quilt in the same direction as originally on the frame ~Load the Finished Edge FIRST ~CAREFULLY wind it up, ~~keeping things as smooth as possible ~~watching the side edges to keep it from Telescoping to one side ~~Load the unfinished edge as HAPPY SMOOTH and EVEN as possible to KEEP IT HAPPY... rather than trying to make the edge parallel to the roller bar
SederQuilts Wow! You are amazing! Thanks so much for getting back to me. I will try all of these ideas. I wandered about the loading...I read online somewhere to load the minky with salvages perpendicular, but this morning I wandered if that info maybe wasn’t accurate...and then low and behold you recommended the opposite! I will try these things over the next few days-when I am done picking out some of the tricky parts of the first quilt! What about basting-should I also baste entire quilt 1/2” stitches to be safe? I load with those big magnets as well. I love them. Thank you again...I will let you know the results! ....and thanks for the reassuring comments...we quilters put a lot of pressure on ourselves. I hope others reading this will heed your advice!!!😘😇
Michele Gnazzo 🎉Woohoo! 🤓 Both directions of loading Minky work... but I tend to have more stretch issues with salvages perpendicular to roller bars ... and that is true for regular backing with salvages tending to be tighter so the main fabric sags... Lots of options... it’s good to experiment... and occasionally you need to use your less than preferred method... but then you can probably puzzle out the minor adjustments required to make it work well for that particular Quilt. 🤓Let me know what you discover as you try my suggestions ... I appreciate the feedback 💋 Come back often! 😊Tutoluu 🌸
Hi Paula Jo, Thanks for this great quick tip. Two questions - is this the link to the long magnet you're referring to : www.harborfreight.com/hardware/magnets/18-in-magnetic-tool-holder-60433.html and secondly, at 1:04 you are using the little magnets. But I can't quite figure out what you're attaching or what are you doing to hold it in place with the little ones? Thanks!
Oh my goodness!! I'm so sorry for the delay... I don't know where all these comments were hiding! Yes, Harbor Freight is the correct place for the big magnetic tool strips. I sell the little magnets with the handles on my website @SederQuilts.com... they are like an extra pair of hands to hold fabric to the metal poles... just long enough to straighten things out, or to hold the excess out of the way, or while I'm squeezing the Leaders Grips in place... or to hold my measurement notes... they are fabulous! Thanks for watching!
Christine Waggoner 🤓Excellent question! 🌸Short answer is NO🤗 I hear you, I asked that same question many times... to many people... (because I’m old enough to remember that magnets used to do nasty, harmful, nonreversible damage to computers!😳... and I still remember when touching the wrong button on a computer would permanently wipe out files and info and work that took years to do!😱) Uffdah! Thankfully, the computer developers found new ways to prevent that type of stuff from happening...💃yeaaaay! 😊So nowadays, unless you have a super duper strong huge magnet that only fictional super hero 🦹♂️villains have, or an ancient cassette tape playing computer, you should be fine using 18” long magnets 🧲 on the quilt frame roller bars.... just don’t drop them on your toes, or your ceramic tile floor, or get your fingers in between a couple of them... these activities still cause great pain and destruction.😬 👩🏫But seriously, I am still careful of where I put USB thumb drives, (not too close to magnets, or puppy dog teeth🐶) but I’ve been reassured again and again that USBs are safe from harm, too. So, Breathe and Enjoy! Best price for the long magnetic tool strips is usually at HarborFreight (too pricey for me to mail)... but you may order the HandyDandy Small Magnets (with handles) from me at SederQuilts.com 🌸Thanks for asking! Tutoluu!🌸
New to your videos as I am "trolling" all the youtube channels while recovering from foot surgery. Learning oh so much more about LA-ing. where do you get the magnets you are using?
