First, this is Pam but anyway...Thanks, Adam for the video. Started with zippers with my old Millenium maybe 2006. Made loading & swapping out quilts between customer's quilts & my own (which got low priority) so easy. When I got my Forte, I thought I'd "update" & get snappers. That did not go well so I just put zippers back on & voila...happy camper again. Well worth the investment; Once you get the full set, you can then buy extra sets of the quilt leaders (not as expensive). I have 4 sets, but spring for at least 2. Welcome back to the West Coast!
Thank you so much Adam I always learn something new when I watch you are appreciate your sharing this zipper method never thought I could use it but I do like the easiness of it because I do have the red snappers but as you get older your hands and your strength are not so strong so I appreciate it and thanks a bunch and drive safe❣️✂️🧵🪡
Thanks Adam. I use MK Quilts' zippers because they have a little mini leader on them, and I attach them once to a mini leader and for some reason that is easier to baste in a quick minute than sewing onto a thin zipper edge for me; but it's nice to know these are available too. Zippers are so quick.
Thank you so much for this demonstration! I so need this! Having spinal surgery next week and loading the quilt has been a deterrent to quilting. I am ordering these now
Thank you for a great video. I have used pins, snappers, and zippers, and zippers are definitely my favorite - like to baste and be able to change out quilts, even if tension seems questionable at any time and put muslin in for adjustments. To save $ (and before this system available) I use plain 108+ inch reversible separating zippers (easy to find and not expensive). One issue that has been a challenge for me is when quilting a large (currently a king) quilt, if the zipper goes just to the edge of the leader and/or backing, the bulk of the pull makes a lump that makes a weird irregular spot in the rolling-up that seems to compound as I continue through the quilt. I usually compensate with clips (mine are cheap generic PVC - but a lot like the HQ quilt clamps), but sometimes it is too much. How do you avoid this? Would using an extra long zipper and attaching it so the zipper pulls are well out of the way work? That is my next plan, after I get some slightly longer zippers.
You can also use a long basting stitch and do it quickly on your sewing machine. If you are working on a show quilt you can zip it on and off to work in client quilts.
You just have to sew the zippers onto your existing leaders. You can take your leaders off to do it. The zippers come with instructions and I think there might be a how to video.
Hey Adam were you on Mare Island yesterday? If not you definitely have a doppelgänger here. Anyway love your videos. Thank you for all your educational videos! 😀
So you can just baste it onto the zippers? Or would you not want to baste the quilt top bottom, as you would want to release it easily once you get to the end?? I hope you do a video on how to square up the leaders and apply the zippers to the leaders themselves
Hello! I work for The Quilting Connection. We have been using and selling the zippers for 20 years now. There are so many different ways to use them. Some of our customers do baste on to the zipper, but with the feed dogs it will stretch the fabric a little. So you can do that for the backings no problem. We always pin like Adam did and we find that there is less stretch or flaring of the edges. The zippers come with a full manual of instructions on how to attach them to the canvas and quilt projects. We also stamp our phone number on each zipper too! We are always happy to help answer any questions. We also have a loading video using the zippers from The Quilting Connection. We charge $40 for that video class. Please call or email us 262-723-6775 QuiltingConnectionWi@yahoo.com

Hi Joan, I have a zoom link open and ready to help you get your order placed. Please check your email. It’s 7:20am my time and I will keep the link open until 8:20am. If you can’t join today, we can plan another time to meet. Thank you! Angie
I have used these for years... i use my domestic machine to do a the longest basting stitch. I fold my backing in half to and bottom, pin the top of backing to the take up rollercanvas and the bottom of backing to the canvas backing roller. Take to my machine and baste from center out. both ends and take back to my Fusion and zip on. I refuse to pin because i always prick myself... and it is much smoother to baste on. I have sewn one zipper to end of leader that is velcroed on the take up roller and i have the other half sewn to about a 6" piece of canvas and have doubled over the end (of canvas) where i sew on the backing. I don't pin on the zipper tape
Just got mine and still attaching to my machine. Wondering if you could not use the long arm to sew the backing onto the zipped zipper the same way you did the zippers to the leaders? Might eliminate the stretching of the fabric caused by the feed dogs. I love the idea of adding muslin to the zippers.
I pin the zippers to my tops, I don’t baste them. I just don’t have to be sitting at my machine to pin them on now. I pinned a quilt while watching tv this week.

Love it! How quick & easy! Gotta have these!
Sold! Just ordered a set. Looks like a great alternative to try. Will provide follow up after I receive and try them out.
Ordered a set earlier in the week. They are here and I sewed them on my leaders this morning. Loading a small table runner tomorrow. So far so good.
I bought them last night. Save driving.
These zippers are the best making loading easy and quick!

Yes! me too
But wait there’s more!! I’m thinking about getting these… since this was a year ago now are you still loving them!!
Yes I am. It’s how I load most of my quilts now. I do use the other systems sometimes, it just depends on my quilt and what would work best.
@@adamsewfun. Thank you for answering ! I think I will try these . I use red snappers but the zippers seem like a better way.
I LOVE my zippers BUT I hate to pin so I baste the backing to it and than pull the backing off when I’m done and no bulk of pins, etc…
Hello! You’re taping at academy??🤣work horse.🥰
So how do you attach the zippers to your existing leaders? Do you have to remove them and replace with the ones you sell?
You just have to sew the zippers onto your existing leaders. You can take your leaders off to do it. The zippers come with instructions and I think there might be a how to video.

Less time pinning but you have to sew zippers to the top. Pinning seems faster to me.
