I’m about to buy my first trail running shoes tomorrow and as i checked on yt before sleeping, this is literally the first video on my home page. Been thinking of buying this since last week. I guess this is the sign. :)
Great informative, well made and inspirational video! This video made me buy this shoe (I have been using Salomon running and hiking shoes for many years). Greetings from Sweden
Thanks for the review. See if Salomon can send you version 1 or 2 of the s lab pulsar soft ground. Got a couple pairs on sale for 45 and 70$. Fast and as light as my vaporflys.
I bought the shoes without even looking at reviews or anything, it just called to me, perfect fit and the specs I was looking for. Seems like I made the right decision.
I am trying out salomon and really value your opinion! I was wondering your thoughts as a big 6’0 athletic 200lb wide foot runner. Is their a Salomon shoe for light trail running in California to a road bike (using small lugs for grip on pedals) to gym (treadmill, rowing machine, and weight lifting) and walking on flat surfaces comfortably? I know a super tall order and seems like an impossible do it all one shoe. What do you think salomon has that closest fits this? Thank you in advance for your time and thoughts Mike Ko!
I love my Sense ride 3, because it feels cushioned for a trail shoe....but I feel the Thundercross has a bit more comfort and a bit more aggression in the lugs so I think it'll be my next trail shoe.
Hey Ko, great review. I know you couldn't test for snow and ice but how do you think it would handle winter road running. Looking to replace speedcross 5
I did get it in a bit of snow on some of those peaks, although it wasn't enough for any real testing. but it's a Cross series shoe from Salomon. I expect it to do well. But I'll definitely test it out this winter on my local trails.
@@kofuzi The Ultra Glide 1 is not holding up here in the islands and the inov-8 Terraultra GT300 is a tank of a shoe for long trail running and I don't have use for them.
Hi Mike. Thanks a ton for the review. Small side question , are you coming to Budapest ? Would love to meet you here and perhaps take you out for pints 😊
Don't you find your Thundercross in US9.5 a bit too long and clunky? I just recieved my Thundercross GTX today. I've always been wearing Salomon shoes in US9.5 (SpeedCross 4, Outbound GTX and Pulsar Trail GTX), but this Thundercross GTX fits quite differently. Wider toebox and about 3mm longer than the Pulsar Trail GTX I'm replacing. I have more than a thumb's width of space from the top of my toe to the end of the shoe. A bit worried that it might be prone to tripping over roots on the trail.
@@kofuzi It seems that Salomon's last is getting wider each year. SpeedCross 4 was very narrow; Outbound GTX a little wider; Pulsar Trail GTX the best in my case; and Thundercross GTX the roomiest.
I am 6’1” 205 lbs take a good look at brooks glycerin 20 and brooks caldera 6 (trails) both have a vey nice cushion that works well for us over 200 lbs folks .
Probably not, I probably have about average width feet and these are snug. They are quite narrow in the midfoot and while the toe box is definitely roomier than a lot of Salomons of old it's still not spacious. The closest in fit I can think of is the Speedgoat 5. The Mafate Speed 4 has more room with a similar lock down and is just as capable in technical terrain with a softer but equally protective midsole.
@@ThatFlowState local REI had them and surprisingly they fit with the half size up recommendation. A tiny bit snug in the mid foot but otherwise great. When my current shoes bite the dust, I’ll probably grab these
It was either this or the Gel-Sonoma 7 that I recently considered. In the end, I went Gel-Sonoma 7 as it corresponded more to my needs and was slightly cheaper on sale. It looks like a quality shoes in any case.
This is Salomon compares to the peregrine from Saucony that’s why it was made from the same drop to the lugs system for once all you info was a little false as this shows does fit on the wider size too
One complaint people have had about Solomon in the past is that they were narrow. I think some of their newer models address this. Also they now seem to be more competitive in the potential road and trail hybrid shoe. For me Solomon is not my favorite brand, but it’s just preference anyway.
[My RUclips channel provides free coaching videos for runners] Thanks so much for the review. I've started to really look at Salomon shoes, so I really appreciate it. Currently have the Speedcross and find it heavy - this (Thundercross) is a better weight.
It’s really too bad about that shoe. I’m hoping there’s a version two that comes out that drain that has ability to drain water where I run like I got a lot of creek crossings and everything and that shoe filled up like a bathtub and I couldn’t get the water out just about And I knew I loved everything about the shooter and more or less I sent them to a friend. I know that lives out west where he runs and dry rocky trails all the time and so where I run on these coast in the southeast it didn’t Work Rd., Solomon and I’m saying if there is a version two coming out put some drainage and some more breathability into that shoe specially around where it’s like a seal all around the bottom And I’ll buy 50 pairs. I loved it. I thought it was a great shoe. I like the lower drop. I like the with no rock plate. It was flexible. It was grippy. It was really everything even fit better than normal. Fit for me, but the drainage wouldn’t work for me, have the problem with that filled up with water and they wouldn’t go anywhere so I brought that back to REI I’m praying for better next time
It would take me only seconds to roll my ankle in that rubble at the beginning of the video. This is not safe. The shoe has no support for that kind of terrain. I bet rangers are tired of tourists going there without proper ankle support boots. Nothing against the shoe, but the video doesn't make sense.
You would be incredibly shocked to see the type of shoes thru hikers are hiking in nowadays over far more technical terrain. I’ve hiked the white mountains in trail shoes that weren’t even like la sportiva type shoes. Boots are just unnecessary and cumbersome to me but to each their own.
Boots are massive overkill for most trails. They’re also blister factories, sweaty, non breathable boots with friction all over the place. My advice is work on your balance and strength. If you can’t go hiking without ankle support and are prone to rolling your ankle you likely have either a fitness issue or an underlying health problem that needs diagnosing by your physio.
This Kofuzi review gets an A+. There were group shots, great shots of the mountains and "post-credits scene" was wonderful.
thank you, frank
Big Salomon fan boy! They fit me well. Adidas for road. Salmon for trail 🎉
Nice
Absolutely

Great review, Ko. Might have to check these out once Imelda goes through a few older pairs (first). They are sharp looking!
I like the pair I have, but I'm also quite fond of the black version
4mm drop makes it a buy.
yep i got salomon pulsar , great shoe

Nice shoe with a bit of cushion. The lacing system not one I’ve tried. Catamount 2 is a good Midwest trail shoe for less mushy terrain
I like that one

Just been gifted a pair of these Thundercross, looking forward to trying them!🤩

Great Review Mr K, surely looking like a good replacement for my Salomon Ultra Glide 1.
i tested the ultra glide 2 on this trip. a good shoe, but it uses a bit of a firmer foam. and the outsole setup is quite different

get some sleep. see you tomorrow
perfect shoe for you to use at Black Hills 100, or whichever 100 miler you end up signing up for.
after having done the Hut Run Hut adventure, I'm not sure I could ever run 100 miles

I'll be arriving next Thursday night. planning on an informal group run Friday morning.

I know Salomon is an underrated shoe, but I think I might have to give them a try.
I don’t love all the Salomon shoes I’ve tried, but I really do like this one
Underrated ??? If you're a trail runner Salomon is the biggest brand worldwide....
Hi.. I have a thunder cross can I use and running in asphalt?
Would these make good hiking shoes as well?
yes. just talked to someone today who mentioned that they bought these for hiking and have been enjoying them
What do you think
Inov8 trailfly ultra or these? Both similar prices now in the UK
I’ve never run in an Innov8
Is this good for wide feet?
one of the things that i always want to know is sizing, do you size half up for this? or just stay true to size for a tighter fit?
I believe I addressed this in the video, but the answer to both of your questions is yes.
Thundercross Split Attack!
I am 5’9 and 225lbs.. i walk mord than run. Which model would you recommend me? Fuel Cell V4, Puma Deviate, something else?
New Balance Fresh Foam More v4. Deviate Nitro 2 would be nice. Bondi 8 and 7 could also be great choices.

This isn’t it
@kofuzi any recommendations?
Now I want to try these...watching your vids is dangerous.
they're just a very fun shoe
