Love this video, thank you! I’ve just completed the Salomon Serpent Trail 50K this weekend in the ultra glides and my feet are still in one piece! It was my first ultra marathon too. I did see you there but was too shy to say hi! We were camping behind you in the white caddy and tent. Hopefully I’ll see you both at another event and will say hi to you! Love your channel and your energy and enthusiasm is so infectious!

Thanks for the comparison Loyd. I'm interested in the Sense Ride 5.
I've had 2 pairs of the UG1's and I love the fit of them and the feel of the midsole to run in. The issues I have found with both pairs though is the outsole wore off very quickly, like from about the second run the lugs wore noticeably. Secondly, the band of TPU overlay that goes right around the foot simply does not offer any drainage to the shoe in wet conditions, I have been through deepish water and the shoe just holds it inside throughout the run. The V2 doesn't appear to have addressed these issues and why Salomon didn't sort out that poorly designed lace garage in V2 just doesn't make sense to me.
I'd be interested in how you or others have found the Sense Ride 2 on drainage.
Thanks again mate, you do a super job.

Hi Loyd, a great review as always. You mentioned the shoe inserts.
Would you consider reviewing the different shoe inserts available on the market and their reputed benefits?
I know another on for the list!!
    Cheers, Gary

I didn't get on with the ultraglide v1. Retired them after 150km. They just didn't feel like Salomons to me, more like Hokas. They even gave me the same blisters as Hoka does 😢. Also, the outsole was already started to show very significant wear. So a different, worse kind of contragrip. And the midsole already started to flatten. The energyfoam in my genesises feels much more durable, so I hope they fixed that problem with the foam.

I didn’t have any problem with the lace box in the UG1 but I think that they have to improve the durability of the shoes. Probably it’s the worst model that I ever had in that side

If someone liked the cushioning of UltraGlide 1 and is not happy with the stiffness of the UltraGlide 2 , should definitly try Glide Max TR. They are simmilar to Ultra Glide 1. Hopefully by GM TR the midsole will keep it's shape longer than in the Ultra Glide 1. Cheers Loyd!

I have the Sense Ride 3. Very comfy on some trails and decent in mud...however, if I was to run a trail 50km, I'd imagine the Ultra Glide 2 would be better and I'd probably invest in a pair. I'm guessing these two shoes are similar. But depends on weather.

How do you think the Ultra Glide would fare as a road to trail shoe (light trails). And how would they compare to somehow like the Hoka Challenger ATR 7?

Mmmhmmm so tempted by the Ride, I found the earlier versions would flat out in the mid foot but the ultra 1 was just too much plush for me. So maybe the new ride is the answer… except that the Peregrine is what I wanted the ride to be! That would be an interesting comparison.

I know it’s late to comment but the Saucony PWRTRAC outsole is garbage. Wears/cuts quick compared to Contigrip. Wiped out the outsole on a new pair of Xodus Ultra on a 10 day tour of Arizona. Half the lugs on each forefoot tore off after the second day. I’ve been looking for a replacement to my beloved Salomon Sense Ride 3. Sense Ride 4 and 5 have ruined the line. Trying Thundercross and Ultra Glides. 🤞🏼

Recently purchased the sence ride 5 and really like them. Unfortunately, it could use a little more padding in the front over the tie box. It can make the tops of my feet sore when running down steep trails.
I'll have to try the ultra glides.

@@Run4AdventureNice! I'm very interested in the thundercross for a winter muddy ultra. Might be more runable than my speedcrosses, they are bit harsh for ultradistances. I'm hoping the thundercross is a sort of mix of speedcross and genesis.

I was upset after ultraglide v1.
150 miles was dead and I weight 145 pounds. I remember my old sense pro v1 lasted forever. Then after years used around the house.
No, I did just order a pair of the pulsar trail. The original one for 100 K plus mile races and I’ll see how those are kind of lost my confidence.

@@tommilam6320exactly the same in UG V1, 40km to break in the upper (completely overbuilt for the intended purpose) and after 150km or so the cushion already felt different. Shoe wasn't dead by any means but uninspiring and boring, lacking protection...

  • @JavierISampedroTNF

I think it can be a good combo, one for the long run and other for faster ones and rotate. I have been big fan of Sense Ride from v1 and having had the Ultra Glide which I have put over 900kms, now using more as a recovery shoe, I like the Sense Ride a bit more firm feeling. I will start using a fresh pair of Sense Ride 4 and thinking to get an Ultra Glide 1 at discounted price to use it later on.
I know it can be a bit confusing right, and what about when we put the Glide Max TR :D
    Cheers!

  • @djclass005

I bought the sence ride 5 because I liked my sence ride 3's a lot, but the upper is changed and is a lot thighter in the toebox, so i tried, but can't really runin them. The ultra glide look like the better option, but I would like to try them before buying instead of getting them online. S lab genesis looks very cool aswell! :-)

I'd personally say the Ultra Glide is narrower that the Sense Ride 5 like I said in the video. If the Ride 5 felt tight I think the Ultra Glide would be worse 🤔

I currently have the sense ride 3 in a size 8. I note in your video that you say you have gone up half a size for each of these models. Is that compared to previous iterations of the same shoe or is that just in general? Because normally you take a 9.5 in most shoes?
    Just wondering thank you.

The lace garage on the Ultra Glide is atrocious!!! How the hell is it so difficult to design a functional system? The ease of the laces is negated by the poorly designed garage. Truly a head-scratcher.
