tested mine out for the first time today - straight out the box and did a gent,y 7 mile trail jog, gravel, tree stumps, grass, tarmac. Loved them I have to say - no hot spots rubbing or blisters, they really were comfy for me, loved them. I am off to Lake District in a couple of weeks (reason why I brought them), hoping for a bit of rain to test in the wet and rough as possible trails. I gave them a 9/10. Another great vid - thank you - love popping in to this channel to see whats new and happening.
just come back from the Lake District yesterday (only took 34hrs to get home ) took these bad boys with only a mile walking to town in them - wet grass/mud/rocks/boulders - did it all in all conditions and not once did I have an issues in the 4 days I spent in the mountains - traction was excellent, no hot spots/blisters. With Salomon selling mostly narrow feet shoes I was surprised how much room I had - as usual a half size up from 9. Yes I am a very happy, even more so when I spent sometime online and found them for a bargain £98.. I have been using Ultra Glide 2 but they have been demoted to 2nd pair as these Thundercross will now be my go too shoes for trails:)
Been waiting for a review on these for a long time! Glad you enjoyed them. I think on paper these tick all the boxes for my long trail runs. I'm currently running the speedgoat 4 and find myself wanting something a little more nimble for the technical sections whilst still keeping the cushion. Will wait for the full review!
If I only bought shoes based on how they look, I’d be ordering this immediately! 😄 Love the 80s looking colourway. I look forward to checking these out in a few months when the weather turns autumnal.
The most famous physical therapists on the internet are sponsoring videos now?! Good for them! They are a great resource to use once you get your massage gun.
Hey Loyd. Bit behind on watching this anticipated video. Interesting, but will be waiting for the autumnal trail test, as this looks like a decent purchase for UK trails in the wet conditions. Keep up the great work 👊🏻
I think the Thundercat will be a pretty good option in the wetter, muddy months 👍 Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment it's appreciated 🙏
Is this finally the Salomon shoe to fit my feet? Nothing puts me off a brand more than to hear their shoes tend to fit narrow, but this has potential. Not sure about this colourway, and the one currently on the Salomon website is a pretty boring black and navy…so hopefully something better comes out later. Once again, the women’s version is much nicer…seems to happen a lot. Nice review, Loyd. 👋
Another great review, thanks Lloyd. After my Insta comments about the name I’m now excited about a Salomon shoe with a roomier fit, Perhaps I might get to be a Thunder Cat. 😂
Hey Loyd! Just wondering if you ever did any additional testing with the Thundercross. Salomon currently has this colorway reduced to $105 (US) so I picked up a pair. Thanks for the awesome content. Cheers!
Thanks for the review, had been waiting to see what you thought of it as it seems to pull all the best bits from their range together into one, a no-brainier on paper?! Seems daft, but the only thing stopping me having a pair already is the atrocious single colourway option!! 😖🤦♂️
Ive had the speed cross 6 for half a year its my favorite trail runner. I run in metro boston trails alot of wet rocks, roots, pine needle and leaves on trails. If your sprinting intervals like me speedcross 6 grip is unbeatable. If your feet arent conditioned for all the wierd angles from the rocks and roots it may not be shoe trail shoe for you
I've actually found the SC6 to feel quite slippy on wet rock! Salomon contigrp rubber isn't as good as Vibram megagrip on wet rock 👍 I'm not sure you've watch a lot of content on the channel but my feet are definitely conditioned for uneven ground, rocks and roots. I tend to run long distance and not sprints so the SC6 doesn't offer enough cushioning or underfoot protection for me. Also the 10mm heel off set can make them feel very unstable on some terrain. Out of interest, what other trail shoes have you tried? 👍
@@Run4Adventure the speedcross is not a shoe for more than 5-10k regularly. I do sprint intervals for 5-10kish. So im only out 2-4hours hours a couple times a weekon tricky terrain im very familiar with. For me i found myself unsure of the hard fast foot placement with that huge undersoul. I dont like most trail runners as like you said they are well cushioned. I found most trail runners ive tried are not trail runners but trail joggers🤣🤣🤣. I prefer a shoe closer to a cleat (as i grew up wearing baseball, football, soccer cleats) without the carbon plate or big undersoul like most trail runners. The drop is also too much for you distance guys but for sprinting your digging theheel in the terrain with signifigant force. I had hoka spg3, altas, asics, nike. I ran track and highschool and i grew up trail running and hiking in pre adolescence here in new england im now 41 so ive been doing this over 30 years🤣🤣🤣. Our trails are loose ground mixed with large roots and rocks. We dont have much compacted dirt terrain here.... for me i dont like the bright colors either. If its not black or a natural color of the terrain here i wont by it🤣🤣🤣
Been looking for reviews of this for a while. I’d chosen the UG2 as my shoe for the CCC this year but was wondering if id be better taking something grippier in case of bad weather. The UG is pretty perfect apart from not having huge amounts of traction so really promising to hear about the love child that is the Thundercross. Might be enough to take a punt on.
I would always take a grippier shoe out to UTMB Alex just incase you do have bad weather for the race. If you do get a lot of rain on the race the CCC route can get very slippy. Hope this helps and see you Chamonix 🏃♂️⛰️
I actually like the colour way! Where did you get this Loyd? Their website only seems to offer a much more boring colour way (here in the Netherlands). Cheers!
This is the color Salomon sent out to reviewers. It might be an early production run as they showed that at last year's "The Running Event" trade show or they'll release it once the Thundercross is available at retailers.
Hi, thanks for video. I decided between SC 6 and thundercross. From reviews and videos - we have winner thundercat 😊. Unfortunately, today i found another player - slab genesis. Can you write a word about such a comparison?
I personally think the Thundercross is a much better shoe than the Speedcross. However the S/Lab Genesis is a lovely shoe to run in. The Thundercross is a lot cheaper and it would give you more grip on muddy conditions than the Genesis. Hope this helps and thanks for watching 🙏😊 Loyd
Hi do you recommend sizing up for the thundercross? I usually wear a 10.5 but wondering whether I shud get an 11 or stick to 10.5. As a lot of reviews mention the toe box is very big and roomy. Please advise thank you
I went up half a size to a uk10 and the Thundercross fits great. I wouldn't say it's wide fitting, it's a Salomon shoe at the end of the day and their shoes are pretty narrow. Hope this helps and thanks for watching 👍
Im a beginner planning on completing the spartan race trifecta and im torn between the speed cross 6 and thundercross. What do you suggest i go for? Or do you recommend any other shoe?
How do they perform on wet road? I want them for trails in my city´s hills however sometimes need to transition 2+ miles on standard road, also thinking about using them in winter on a snowy road instead of Hoka Challenger ATR7, what do you guys think? Thanks
I haven’t had any issues running short sections of wet road in the Wildcross. The only thing I would mention is if you’re doing that kind of distance on the road in them regularly you will wear the lugs down a lot quicker 🤔
Speedcross are in my opinion the best sub ultra race shoe. Not necessarily a fun shoe but full of utility. Hopefully these can give Salomon fans that everyday shoe that can deal with muddy slogs without breaking an ankle.😂 Love my Speedcross 6’s though. Ballet slipper crossed with a dirt bike tire.❤
I think this might be a shoe for me but I really don't like the colours. The womens version is much better looking but their biggest size is just a tad small for me. I hope they release some nicer colours later in the year, in time for autumn mud.
No, since they quit the sense 4 pro - low to the ground, light and nimble but still soft and cushioned! We don't need whole a lot of heavy numb rigid stability shoes that will twist our ankles on rocks, roots and slanted terrain. I am currently looking for a replacement for sense 4 pro, which would ideally have more room for straight big toe and less slippery and water absorbing materials inside. S/lab pulsar is pretty good but it doesn't quite have the same confidence inspiring feel on technical terrain and doesn't drain that fast either.
My sense pro 4's are reaching end of life and haven't found a good replacement yet 😢

@@gijssmets I have tried quite a few salomon shoes but none of them have been as good overall as sense 4 pro. Slab ultra 3 v2: rigid, heavy and debris gets in the shoe through the holes on the sides on the tongue, doesn't drain good enough Slab cross 2: good ground feel, precise fit, pretty flexible, good grip on soft ground. Still not quite as comfortable as sense 4 pro. Doesn't drain that well but feels good when soaking wet. Slab Pulsar 2: light, fast and comfortable. Not quite as good as sense4pro on technical terrain due to the rocker midsole. Takes about 1km to drain - mid tier. Slab sense 8: light, fast and nimble. Not that comfortable. Drains very well! Pulsar trail pro: fast and comfortable. Not that nimble nor agile on technical terrain. Mid Tier drainage. Sense ride 4: meh. Not that comfortable nor nimble or fast. Basic trail shoe. Soaks quite a lot water. Wildcross: good feel on forefoot but heel is very wide and numb. Pretty heavy. Soaks quite a lot water. Obviously I have replaced the ortholite insole in sense4pro I would suggest you to try slab pulsar sg . It has many of s4pro's good qualities. Only lacking stability/agility on technical terrain (& slightly worse drainage) but on the other hand it runs easier and faster on smooth trails.

I'd say, that's exactly what it is Simon 👍

Based on the stats and the looks of the lugs, this kinda looks like a Salomon Peregrine.
Salomon Thundercross Gore-Tex vs Merrell Agility Peak 5 Gore-Tex ? These are two great shoes and which one should I buy?
