I traveled with Jack And Misty playing drums for them. You could not meet two nicer people or more talented. I was a young and green man but they were great to me. Thanks for the memories.
+jackandmisty: You guys hurt and helped me at the same time with this song. I was in a bar drunk the first time I heard it. I laughed so hard I wet my pants. It was then I realized I didn't have to drink to embarrass myself. All I had to do was listen to you and get a good laugh going. Not only did you save me a lot of money, You may very well have saved my life and that of others. Who knows. I could have died drunk behind the wheel and took someone with me. Then I would have gone to hell. So you even played a hand in saving my soul. Once I stopped drinking I figured I may as well join the church. All that from just one little song I can't even sing on Sunday morning because I wouldn't want all my church brothers and sisters having to leave early so they could go home and change their pants.
This was such a cute and funny song! I remember it when I was quite young. I liked to picture the birds walking, whistling, and wearing underwear -- and it made me laugh. It's so good to hear it again after all these years.
jackandmisty saw you guys in the lounge @ altamonte springs racquet club in 1985. i have your lp mint condition (played one time to tape), remember hearing humphrey the camel on AM radio in delaware around 1970. was that a reference to HHH ?
When this song arrived I was 7 and it fired my imagination and made me smile. I could see those dirty birds, whispering in their underwear ! It's great hook, great arrangement, I don't know if anyone would write this song today, PETA might object :) In 1970 there was a broader choice on free to air and music exposure, glad I didn't miss this one. Give thanks to U Tube & Jack & Misty.
"The Tennessee Boardwalk" My nephew liked and had the 7" single, or maybe on a K-tel compilation Lp. Well anyway I think much of that tune at the time.
I can't believe this song is this old, or that I'm that old, lol. I remember our family driving on vacation to visit my Grandpa in Missouri, and we stopped at some diner and my dad played this on the jukebox. I remember laughing and laughing, especially at the part of the birds being in their underwear. Oh my gosh.
Jack and Misty, What was the synth that was used? Had to be a single oscillator precursor to the Mini Moog, was it a Moog? And the two boards on the bottom? I stumbled on this and remembered this well from when I was a kid. Too cool you two!
+Rich Green I think the two keyboards on the bottom were a Hohner Clavinet and an Elka String Machine. Also maybe a Korg Organizer (a Hammond B-3 sound)..
+Rich Green No, neither of us was trained at all. Misty plays by ear. I learned music theory and arranging from books. Misty has perfect pitch and an amazing memory for music. We both started out playing standards and jazz.
jackandmisty Jazz, That explains it! You guys are awesome! I remember you when I was just a kid. I thought it was a cool tune then but when I hear it again now, it means more. Initially a guitarist, I took up piano when Jon Carroll from the Starland Vocal Band who I went to school with got me hooked on keys. Still playing at 57 and think the world of both of you. Misty, nobody back then did runs like you did on this. Plus made it so , Bird like! Better than Birdland! Dont tell Joseph Zawinel
I heard this song on the radio all the time back in the day but never realized there wasn't a band. Jack and Misty each playing multiple synthesizers for the rhythm and background chording. And the harmony of the vocals is quite unusual. I ran into something similar on Terry Allen's Flatland Boogie. It seems the male lead vocal is singing melody, but the female vocal rather than harmonizing a third, seems to be on the root. It's very hard to decipher it, but the sound is totally unique. I actually think this song by Jack and Misty may have inspired Carly Simon and James Taylor's version of "Mockingbird".
This came towards the end of the "novelty record" era. I heard this song on a Directv music channel a few years back, and this song also appears on a Dr. Demento compilation. They don't make 'em like this any more...
It was THIS particular video that I watched and it was how I first discovered Misty and Jack!!! Gad, I hope that youtube uses a bit of common sense and releases their control of this couple's music!!!!
jackandmisty, may I just say thank you for this wonderful song I first heard in 1971 when I was just 7 years old, can I ask, what the hell were you smoking to come up with those lyrics? hahaha, Also is that a Mini Moog Misty plays the solo on? Still sounds wonderful after all these years.
Heard this on satellite Sirius/XM ..it wss talked about by one of the DJ's last week..they played it on air..funny toon..never heard it before..catchy hook to it..
Let's see if You can sing this and keep the words straight. This is a song that would help you keep your calm stuck in eight lanes of traffic on the 405 at quittin time.
I lived in Nashville when this song hit the radio. I was a very young boy and my dad had just been killed in a single car car collision in Gallatin. When it came on the radio I would turn it up. If we had arrived at our destination and it was still playing, I would sit in the car until it finished playing. This song gave me a smile in an otherwise devastating time in my life. Thank You, Jack and Misty. Thank you.
On this day in 1970 {May 23rd} Jack Blanchard & Misty Morgan performed "Tennessee Bird Walk" on the ABC-TV Saturday-afternoon program, 'American Bandstand' At the time the song was at position #49 on Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart, four weeks earlier it had peaked at #23 {for 2 weeks} and it spent thirteen weeks on the Top 100... And on March 28th, 1970 it reached #1 {for 2 weeks} on Billboard's Hot Country Singles chart... On the same 'Bandstand' show the duo also performed "Humphrey the Camel", five weeks later it entered the Hot Top 100 at position #99, then five weeks later it peaked at #78, that was also it's final week on the Top 100... And on August 2nd, 1970 it peaked at #5 {for 2 weeks} on Billboard's Hot Country Singles chart... The day they appeared on the 'Bandstand' show was Ms. Morgan's 25th birthday, she was born on May 23rd, 1945 in Buffalo, NY...
Thanks for posting this. I'm another Aussie who remembers this from his childhood. This song just popped into my head this morning and wouldn't leave me, so I typed the title and was pleased to find it straight away. By the way, my buddy thought the bit where you say, 'take away their *whistle* was bleeped out because you said something naughty.
Allan Baker Lol, regarding the "bleep"/whistle, until I watched this video, in the 45 years or so since I first discovered this song on the radio as a kid, it NEVER ONCE occurred to me that it was meant as anything other than a beeped out 'wurty dird' (or rather a bleep deliberately in place of a certain tastefully unspoken word...and a wink). I was a churchgoing Christian kid, but this is the only way I heard it: "Take away their 'BLEEEEP!!' and the birds will have to whisper when they sii-iing, '😨chuu-uurp, chuu-uurp😨'" As a boy, I thought that was HILARIOUS, and risqué for 70s country radio. Clever double entendres were common in those more tasteful days, as well as intentional bleeps and deliberately messed up and ran together words, in place of other words that weren't allowed on radio and TV, so I always assumed that was what it was. Although, I never really thought much about it since those days, I never questioned that interpretation till this video. I don't suppose it ever occurred to me that it was supposed to literally represent the bird whistle. Jack and Misty, if you are still listening to the comments here, was that whistle ever thought of, even a little bit, as a double entendre?
Hey guy's (if this is jack?!) I enjoyed the video great stuff. You won't remember us we were called the (Nashville Knights) aka The Cotton Dan Band, Claude King's band (Wolverton Mountain) we worked several shows with you guy's on the same bill, we traveled for about 16 yrs then gave up the road. Just wanted to say hi, check out the Cotton Dan Band videos or Claude King. Claude Is 88 yrs old as of Feb 2011 and going strong. David Daniels (lead guitar) The Cotton Dan Band
Hi, I'm from N.Y. In 1968 I was 19. I did'nt care for the way "pop" was going. One day I found a station that was playing "Big Bad John". I stayed with the station, and the next song was new to me - it was a "Country + Western" song. I can't recall what it was, but it hooked me !!! So many GREAT songs !!! So many BEAUTIFUL SONGS !!! But then it all changed !!! It's terrible !!! When Your song, this song, would come on the radio, it would just bright-en up my day !!! AND EVERYBODY'S DAY !!! And so did that CAMEL !!!
2:53 "I'd get get rid of him, but I need the eggs." That, & Misty's grin seems to sum up your music. I remember this, from w-a-y back in the day, when I was merely (cough, cough) years old & still enjoyed hearing it today. So nice to see that you're still around, together & working. Keep up the good work.
@jackandmisty My friend Lisa played this for me years ago! Still enjoyable. I've heard Rich blessing out his band and it could definitely peel paint, however, I read that even though he rode his band he actually didn't fire as many members as the tapes would imply. Paul Anka comes off almost as nasty, but he does say at the end that he wants his band to be as engaged and committed to the music as he is.
Jack and Misty, this has long been one of my favorite novelty songs; thank you very much for posting it for all of us to enjoy! And I love that remark you made about Buddy Rich, Jack!
@jackandmisty I do recall that Buddy Rich said that country music was "junk" or something like that. Later I read that he'd mercilessly berate even his backup musicians. There've been a few dogs on the country charts, but there is great treasure in many country records' musicianship, storytelling and tunes. Just the material written by Hank Williams Sr. is classic and stands the test of time. As for Buddy Rich, I can't name one tune he wrote. He was a lightning fast drummer, epitaph.
Heard this song on my DirecTV country station (808) this morning for the first time in decades. It's still very clever and entertaining and upon looking it up on RUclips I saw this live version. Back when the song was a hit I never got to see Jack and Misty. Tanya Tucker looks to be teen-aged. Great song and a great video. Thanks for letting us see it.
Love this song ! jackandmisty I am from Orlando and you played a few years back at our Fundraiser FOE 3643 Great seeing you. Help me with the name of the lounge on Orange Ave where you played way back when? Thank \s
oh now i understand... at the end of the video the question about Buddy... well he had his personallity, but i think he was an incredible person, he maybe made a strong opinion about country music, but i dont think about Buddy as a negative person, this can be missinterpretated by a simple opinion
maybe you're thinking of "Curiosity Shop"; it was a Saturday morning show of the early 70's, a live action w/ puppets sort of thing. That's where I recall seeing the animation you mentioned. The video posted here by the kids animation class reminds me a lot of it!
Hey Jack and Misty! Tennessee Bird Walk is one of my fave songs ever!!!!Whats the little keyboard that does the solo in the middle of the song? minimoog? arp? yamaha c-500? I gotta know!
I had the 45 to this song when I was 4 years old. What a trip down memory lane! Thanks for posting this Jack & Misty. The live version absolutely rocks - especially the mini moog playing by Misty.
I absolutely loved this song when I was a youngster...even played it once on my rock show when I was a dj...audience got a kick out of it for my April Fools Day show..Thanks for the memory!!!#
Hi Folks! I collect 8-track tapes and I have a tape by you folks from the early 70's but it is the strangest thing. It is a Quadraphonic Tape (surround sound), it proclaims itself to be from "Romulus Records" and has seven songs from your album "Two Sides of Jack & Misty". The other songs are: "It Seems like there ain't no going Home", "Washin' Harry Down the Sink", "Second Tuesday in December" which I think were only singles, weren't they? All these songs were recorded for Mega Records if I'm not mistaken. Have you guys ever heard of this release or can you help shed any light on this strange tape?
+Harold Lloyd I'm pretty sure those are pirate tapes, Harold. Some of them have weird drawings of us on the cover. I've never heard the quad tapes, though. BTW Harold Lloyd is my favorite silent movie comedian. Cheers. Jack (& Misty).
+jackandmisty Thanks so much for the reply! I had my suspicions it was a bootleg tape, but there are other "Romulus" Quad tapes too, so I just thought I'd ask. The music on it from you folks is a great listen and the 4-channel mix really spreads the music out. Vocals are in the fronts with piano, drums, bass, guitar; the rears have vocal echo, strings and and the occasional harmonica, synth keyboard or another guitar. As Quad mixes go, it's quite nice. Shame that it's not an official album release though. The music is definitely better than anything coming out today. Catchy tunes, and lyrics you can sing along to. Gotta love it! Harold Lloyd is my first & middle name. Dad had a sense of humour; mom didn't figure out the reference until I was in my teens. :)
Wow! This brings back some memories of music gone by. I found it because the Clock of St. James song has been running through my head the last couple of days and I wanted to hear it again. What a BONUS to get to hear Tennessee Bird Walk too! Thanks for the Memories :-) Can't wait to play this for my kids!
Talented duo!! This novelty song was so popular in Australia and received considerable airplay all the dj's at the time loved it!! It was played recently (2014) on Sydney's 2CH.Thanks for the posting!!
For real this is the real Jack and Misty? If so, I hope you guys are in good health, still together, and happy. I loved this song as a kid. Used to crack my Dad up that I was so lousy in math but knew every word of this song. Thanks for the music you guys. You entertained then, and it would seem you are still entertaining. Peace.
Thank you J&M, I can recall hearing this song on the radio in my early teens and I'm still blown away by the clever lyrics - and as a drummer I had a big laugh re Buddy RIch.
Hello Jack & Misty, this is one of my favorite spring time songs! I'm going to take this song over to facebook and share it with all of our friends there. -♥Alan "Rockadilly" Dill
Hey guys, great to see you posting your music on RUclips and directly interacting with watchers. Personally, I knew of this song thanks to Dr. Demento in the 80s, but a friend played this at his bar to my surprise. I hadn't heard it in maybe 25 to 30 years, but I recognized it immediately. Great song.
I was a travel counselor at AAA in Orlando in the early 1970's and had the pleasure of marking their map for a trip. Such a nice couple and I still smile when I hear their music.
Hey Jack and Misty.....I was in the Navy working in the Pentagon when this came out....and found out that some old college friends were in the Army living about a mile from me. We used to listen to this, and HUMPHREY THE CAMEL....and laugh forever! Believe me...with Viet Nam going on then, we needed a laugh! THANKS TO YOU BOTH!
Thanks. Glad you like it. We did have all those analog electronics in 1970 when it came out.
Cheers. Jack & Misty
I traveled with Jack And Misty playing drums for them. You could not meet two nicer people or more talented. I was a young and green man but they were great to me. Thanks for the memories.
Hey, Don. Good to hear from you. Our email is jackandmisty@gmail.com. Keep in touch. Jack & Misty
sarrina Rodriguez that's nice of you

What year did y'all do this?
1970
Thanks. The original guitar was Billy Sanford.
And, yes, we were before captain & Tenille.
All the best.
Jack & Misty
I'm 54. I remember this song from my childhood. It was a big hit on the playground. So good to find it here. Thanks for posting it.
I was sure that this would be lip-synched; how nice to discover that it WASN'T!
My dad used to bring out the turntable and play this when i was little
This was such a cute and funny song! I remember it when I was quite young. I liked to picture the birds walking, whistling, and wearing underwear -- and it made me laugh. It's so good to hear it again after all these years.
Thanks to you all for the encouraging comments. :) Jack & Misty.
jackandmisty saw you guys in the lounge @ altamonte springs racquet club in 1985. i have your lp mint condition (played one time to tape), remember hearing humphrey the camel on AM radio in delaware around 1970. was that a reference to HHH ?
Nice to hear this song again,It would be nice if we could relive those days. Those were the best days in America !!!!!!
I remember when this came out. Despite clicking the button 40 times, RUclips would not acknowledge a like.
Cool! I have not thought of this song in ages..
When this song arrived I was 7 and it fired my imagination and made me smile.
I could see those dirty birds, whispering in their underwear !
It's great hook, great arrangement, I don't know if anyone would write this song today, PETA might object :)
In 1970 there was a broader choice on free to air and music exposure, glad I didn't miss this one.
Give thanks to U Tube & Jack & Misty.
We're still looking for the videos of those songs. Thanks for writing.
Jack & Misty
still a cute song even after all these years.
This fantastic song was in heavy rotation in my childhood home, and I still love it!
"The Tennessee Boardwalk" My nephew liked and had the 7" single, or maybe on a K-tel compilation Lp. Well anyway I think much of that tune at the time.
I remember this too. I was a girl and had the 45 of it. Thanks for the memory
I can't believe this song is this old, or that I'm that old, lol. I remember our family driving on vacation to visit my Grandpa in Missouri, and we stopped at some diner and my dad played this on the jukebox. I remember laughing and laughing, especially at the part of the birds being in their underwear. Oh my gosh.
Awe! Loved this song when I was a kid, we sang it all the time! ❤️
Jack and Misty, What was the synth that was used? Had to be a single oscillator precursor to the Mini Moog, was it a Moog? And the two boards on the bottom? I stumbled on this and remembered this well from when I was a kid. Too cool you two!
I think it was an Arp Pro Soloist. Thanks, Rich
+Rich Green I think the two keyboards on the bottom were a Hohner Clavinet and an Elka String Machine. Also maybe a Korg Organizer (a Hammond B-3 sound)..
jackandmisty Misty, your lead lines were almost unheard of back then. Just wondering if you were classically trained?

I liked this song as a kid just because it was goofy and very clever. : )
Just found your music! Love you guys, you still playing?
Thanks. Yes, we're still doing music. :)
Heard this on satellite Sirius/XM ..it wss talked about by one of the DJ's last week..they played it on air..funny toon..never heard it before..catchy hook to it..
I downloaded it off iTunes last week...I like this song...

Hi Debra. That was the Everglades Lounge. :) Jack & Misty
My dad sang this to me as a child. I just remembered it and shared it with my son. He loves it! Great job guys

All the best.

Haven't heard this in years. I'm going to play it for my granddaughter. Thank you!
I remember this from when i was a kid it. I thing i was like 4 yrs. old. LOL
Jack and Misty, this has long been one of my favorite novelty songs; thank you very much for posting it for all of us to enjoy! And I love that remark you made about Buddy Rich, Jack!
Buddy Rich was a fantastic drummer. I don't think he claimed to be a songwriter. He was not the pleasantest of people.
@jackandmisty I do recall that Buddy Rich said that country music was "junk" or something like that. Later I read that he'd mercilessly berate even his backup musicians. There've been a few dogs on the country charts, but there is great treasure in many country records' musicianship, storytelling and tunes. One of my favorites since the ,70s. Now I'm enjoying in 2018, still.
I still remember this but can anyone remember when this came out? I think early to mid 70's.
Hey Jack and Misty! Tennessee Bird Walk is one of my fave songs ever!!!!Whats the little keyboard that does the solo in the middle of the song? minimoog? arp? yamaha c-500? I gotta know!
Thanks for posting, I had not heard this in years, love it then and still do in 2019 !!!
I had the 45 to this song when I was 4 years old. What a trip down memory lane! Thanks for posting this Jack & Misty. The live version absolutely rocks - especially the mini moog playing by Misty.

Alfred, It's a pirate tape made from some of our singles.
I had forgotten this one! I Love it! Looks like you two had a lot fun with it too!!! Thanks for the video and trip down memory lane!
The song still makes me smile after all these 44 (OMG) years and that is all that matters. Thanks my friends, goes down as true classic! And SMILE!!
Thanks, James!
me too!
Wow! This brings back some memories of music gone by. I found it because the Clock of St. James song has been running through my head the last couple of days and I wanted to hear it again. What a BONUS to get to hear Tennessee Bird Walk too! Thanks for the Memories :-) Can't wait to play this for my kids!
You're welcome, Mary. :)
Thank you for the reply! What a wonderful unexpected surprise
:-)
We had this and "A Boy Named Sue" on cassette tape as a kid. The tape doesn't work anymore because we played it so much.
That is the silly song and I love that song.
Talented duo!! This novelty song was so popular in Australia and received considerable airplay all the dj's at the time loved it!! It was played recently (2014) on Sydney's 2CH.Thanks for the posting!!
Thank, you.
Great Great Song. Entered the New Zealand top 20 chart in June 1970, Peaking at number 4. Spent 11 weeks in the top 20.
I wish music was close to this good. Classic.
Believe it or not, we sang this song in middle school chorus in Powell, Tennessee. I loved it then, and I love it now.

I still love it
i Loved this song when I was young...I think my brother played it about a zillion times :) Great memories
@Hawkeye935 loved this song when I was a kid - probably 1970 or so?
nice
For real this is the real Jack and Misty? If so, I hope you guys are in good health, still together, and happy. I loved this song as a kid. Used to crack my Dad up that I was so lousy in math but knew every word of this song. Thanks for the music you guys. You entertained then, and it would seem you are still entertaining.
Peace.
+laurierken Thanks for the nice comment. :) We are still together and still active in music. Cheers. Jack & Misty.
Thank you J&M, I can recall hearing this song on the radio in my early teens and I'm still blown away by the clever lyrics - and as a drummer I had a big laugh re Buddy RIch.
Great song, always loved it ! thanks to 'the winner" for sending me here!
I liked her last comment pretty funny
Hello. I have this on 45 amongst my collection of 2000 at least....remember this tune when I was a kid...awesome! :)

It's an ARP DGX or ARP Pro Soloist.
Hello Jack & Misty, this is one of my favorite spring time songs! I'm going to take this song over to facebook and share it with all of our friends there.
