Man... Your videos always inspire me to build the confidence to do the work on my builds differently than I usually would. It always turns out much easier and better quality! I cannot wait until I get my paint on with my new 89 pick up truck here soon! Going with a total restore on it as well. Keep it up, dude! :)
Awesome! Lot's of these big jobs always seem more scary than they really are, these old Toyotas are soooo simple. I just wing it, and figure things out as I go!
If you're going to use rattle cans on it, you should consider Spray Max clear coat. It has hardener in it, just like if you would mix it yourself. There's a button on the bottom of the can, to release the hardener into the clear coat. You can get a professional finish with UV protection, that will hold up for years. I've used clear coat from the automotive paint stores and spray max. Both are great, but you don't need a gun and you're not dragging a hose around with the spray max and no clean up. The spray pattern is huge compared to Rust-Holeum or Stuplicolor, more like a professional paint gun. Amazon's got it and the more cans you buy at a time the less, per can it costs. I'd recommend 8 cans minimum for a 2 coat finish, on that beast.
That's the issue with rattle cans is most of them are 1k (1part) and that doesn't hold up to time without hardener. I always use 2k primer on any auto parts.
Just an inexpensive tip for paint in the future. Here in the US that two part paint isn’t that cheap and you need a lot to paint to do an entire vehicle. Your color shade will depends on your base coat color. I did my rig in a od green by Krylon and my original paint color was blue. So in the end it turned a darker shade. If I wanted it to be a lighter shade I would first hit the vehicle with a grey primer then spay it with the same od green. That concept will work for all colors choices.
My buddy just sent me a link to your channel. Awesome build! subscribed and ill be following the build. I've got a 3rd gen as well that needs some work so glad to be able to get some ideas.
Somehow just ran across your channel… I’ve currently got two ‘02 3rd gens with 550k miles between the two girls…Run like Swiss watches, shift like new and both blow snow out the vents. Of course I change oil every 3k (cheap insurance). I purchased a ‘22 5th gen and I fancy the 3rd gens much better. Thx for the content!
Lots of character in these 3rd gens! And 90s built Toyotas seem to be the peak of Toyotas reliability, simple and easy to work on. That being said I would also build a 5th gen if I could!

Thanks for input! We have painted a few vehicles on the channel the same way I did in this video. I'll look into that product!

Looks awesome. Thanks for taking the effort for bringing us along

Nice realistic build. Can't wait to see the finished product.
Thank you! No crazy unrealistic budgets here. Just me working with the tools I have, and building and replacing what I can!
Clint, I have the flares you need if interested. They’re off of a ‘97 SR5. Let me know.

Awesome! Thanks for the sub!
Even the smaller matte finished flares on the sport editions require holes in the fenders and quarter panel to attach.
Yeah that is OK!
This guy deserve so many more subscribers being so awesome for real

The paint on the tailgate looks awesome 👍
Thanks 👍
2K clear it. Great work!
Allways go with path of least resistance. I'd definitely use the good doors and buy some aftermarket fender flares.
Absolutely! The doors where free, so I figured it was worth a shot!
Awesome job bro! Love it
Thanks!!
You guys should do a sas swap but for the daily pickup. Staying on 31s stock gears
Why? Doesn't make sense for that specific setup. I'd rather keep the good road manners and ride quality if the goal is 31s and stock gearing.
Really incredible work 👏
Thank you! Cheers!
Nice paint job turned out nice :)
Thank you! Cheers!
Looking great man! I like the new color
Thanks!
Sick build
I love backyard rebuilds/restorations That paint looks so good considering the conditions.
Thank you! I'm thankful to have a yard to even work on my stuff.
Keep the limited v6 badge, I don’t see them too often
Looking good!
i wish I had to the space to do this.
The cat wanted the wrong doors lol 😂
I know, I trust the guy.. But sometimes he does not know what he is talking about.
@@DirtGarage 🤣🤣🤣
That turned out awesome! How much do those custom mixed cans end up costing and how many do you anticipate needing?
It's $34 for first can, and I think $26 every can after that.. it's gone up in price alot recently. I'll probably need like 16 cans.
Not going to lie I've missed the build videos!
More to come! Gas prices makes wheeling expensive! Haha
Your old frame looks better than my current frame 😅
Where did you get the new one from?
From my parts 4Runner. And the old frame had holes. Not ideal
What do you do for a full time job.
This and other video work on the side.
Truck Yeah
the mullet looks lucious lol
It's glorious! Baha, mullets have become a part of the DG brand.
🥇
Don't do the flares . Took mine off because they are a water trap (rust) and the runner looks much better without the plastic gay stuff on it.
