    when to protest ?
    It's wrong to do it in the streets
    It's wrong to do it in the tweets
    You cannot do in on the field
    You vannot do it if you've kneeled
    And don't do it if you're rich
    you ungrateful son of a bitch
    because there's one thing that's a fact
    You cannot protest if you're black

      Is it though Scott? I mean the obvious point made by that original comment was how America as land of opportunity enabled these NFL players to become multi-millionaires. And yes that's part luck and part massive athletic efforts on their part. So yes, it would stand to reason to display respect towards an anthem and flag that is supposed to represent all Americans and the country that made it all possible. NFL would be nothing without it's fans, supporters and so on. There is plenty to be grateful for and it has zero to do with whichever white people managed to earn just as much if not more money.
      The whole 'but the police shootings' reasoning makes no sense to me. Anyone interested in making America a better place, should do so with the intention of including EVERYBODY and showing respect to everybody. Abusing sports for a political narrative is not very respectful, nor does it help anyone. The whole 'when are we allowed to protest' thing is dumb. They are allowed to protest, that's not the point. The point is they are being disrespectful and probably are for all the wrong reasons. I mean where exactly are their 'white people got shot by cops' complaints at? Where's the all lives matter attitude? I'm also pretty darn sure most companies out there would fire people in an instant when they would inject their political protests into whatever work routine when really they should be representative of the company they work for. So yeah, the argument can be made you shouldn't protest during your boss's time, but it's perfectly fine to do it outside of work time. There's nothing inherently racist about any of that. It makes sense.

      @@gregrock7451 You do realize that none of the protests are about him, right? It's about the the fact that police are killing black people with little to no punishment. The riots were bound to happen if nothing changed and people kept dying. The riots happened bc kneeling peacefully didn't work. The police kept killing people with no repercussions. I'm not condoning the riots, but to say that Kapernick's ego had anything to do with this is intellectually dishonest.

    This infuriates me. Because no one is protesting the flag, nor the national anthem, nor are they protesting the police or our troops; and what they are doing is NOT disrespectful. I am from a Military Family-- but our family is intelligent and compassionate enough to know that we fight for the freedom of Americans (and others), and one of those freedoms is covered under the FIRST Amendment-- "protest" is as American as baseball. Kneeling is and always has been a sign of deep respect -- their "protest" is silent, peaceful, and shows reverence for the loss of unarmed [mostly] black young men. It is both moving and spiritual what they are doing, and if people can't see that, they are lost. To try and steer the conversation away from the senseless killing of young black men and make it about hate, is beyond disgusting. If I had a black son, and if I had adopted I would certainly have been open to having a black son, I would be worried sick every time they left the house. No one, especially parents, should have to worry about their children like that. And, instead of working toward better policy and better training, the orange asshole in chief encouraged excessive force by police. To see one player on his knees was one thing- I looked up to find out what it was about and it made beautiful sense to me; but to see several players and team managers and coaches also kneel.... that is amazing, it is beautiful, and don't think for a second that God does not see this all and weep.

It's not that he became famous and respected, but he did it without being an athlete or a singer. It didn't fit the "approved" model of black that white people wanted.

    I’m glad he touched on the misuse of the word, “ungrateful”. It makes me sick when people use that to describe minority groups/people who are routinely mistreated. You can hear the contempt in people’s voice when they say that. Like they see themselves as some benevolent god-like figure that has done you a huge favor just for letting you exist, despite all the disrespect they’ve already thrown your way. It’s like, “We gave you.
    ____ after you fought tooth and nail for it because we kept it from you- what else do you want?” Talk about entitlement....

    Protesting has always made people mad. That’s the point of protesting. Making people wake up. Make them listen. If we’re always supposed to tip-toe around everyone’s feels, then the civil rights movement wouldn’t have ever happened. They were mad at them, too. MLK Jr. was seen as a criminal and not the peaceful protestor you hear about today. They hated him. They killed him. Even if you’re peaceful like MLK Jr. or as brash as Malcolm X, you’ll still meet the same fate: death. They tell us to be like MLK Jr. but skip out the part where he was killed...just for having a dream.

      What a lot of people do not realize is that because most NFL teams are essentially privately owned companies their owners can punish players if they wish. It isn't really the same as going in front of a town hall and protesting. But again that's generally up to the owners to decide. Also the NFL itself could decide to fine players for protesting if they so desired. I'm not saying I agree one way or another, I'm just saying that free speech in this sense is a little tricky.

    • @stephenbradleyent.3323
      @stephenbradleyent.3323 6 лет назад

      theSuperbOwl they are a privately owned company...BUT,the NFL does not require players to stand for the anthem.I think what Trevor is pointing out,is the irrational pushback from people engaging
      in peaceful,dignified protest.You should have a opinion on that.

    • @sgtmjames
      @sgtmjames 6 лет назад

      Yes and no, from what I can gather in terms of the NFL, the Pittsburgh Stealers could be fined for not being on the side line for the anthem(not that they're going to get fined). That's all I'm saying in terms of the NFL. However each individual team could drop players contracts if they wanted to, the point I'm trying to make to this comment, is that free speech while you're working isn't exactly the same as protesting outside of a city hall.

    I love that everyone continues too talk about kneeling, but No One has talked about "WHY" people are kneeling. Trump talks about his love of country, yet when he had the chance too serve this country, he used his father's millions to get "Excused from Fighting the War". He complains that, the NFL Players get paid millions, yet AGAIN, Trump used his Father's Million to get out of "Standing Up" for the Same Flag🇺🇸, he says he loves so much. Not Once has Trump discussed the "WHY", that there are some law enforcement personnel that are shooting black men /boys, just because they are black. So my question is, "How should black people protest? or "How should awareness be made about, the killings of black men/boys & white people calling the cops on black people on a daily basis"?

Peace.

      No really Daily Show making it solely a race issue is really what is horrible here. Excessive force is a citizen issue. And no I do not agree with Fox News and making this an issue. Notice they only show white people commenting on it because they want it to be about race. There are black people who do not agree with the way of protest. I really could care less. I think people should not tell them they cant as it really only fuels it. Beto was asked if knelling was disrespectful and I said Yes of course it is, protestors do it because it is disrespectful. If it was not considered disrespectful then they would come up with stuff until it was considered disrespectful. My feeling is. Who cares.

    When Is the Right Time for Black People to Protest?

  • @VegasMan
    @VegasMan 6 лет назад +1

    I am a black American. I don’t believe that these sports athletics are otherwise should protest while employed on the actual football field or at their place of employment. I am not allowed to protest at my job and guess what if I do I will get fired. Celebrities and Sports Athletics are NOT exempt. As the old saying goes ….” There is time and place for everything”. Athletics should stick to playing sports (or otherwise) and go out into their community and protest and take part in such protest when needed.
    When I go to an event, sports, the theater or otherwise I am there to see and enjoy that event and to get away from ALL of the politics for a moment. That’s NO different in a white NFL player (or otherwise) saying that they should parade/march and show off a confederate flag at each game; again, it’s there right (white Americans) as Colin Kaepernick seriously believes concerning black American issues. If you allow one race to do it, then you must allow other races to protest their rights too. The holy bible speaks of all of this:
    Luke 6:31 New International Version: “Do to others as you would have them do to you.”
    When playing football (or otherwise) leave your politics (or personal drama) at home. These same people can go out within their communities and local churches and protest and make a change. That’s what ALL of this is ALL about. When I pay to go see a football game I am paying for football not baseball (or otherwise).
    And as for Black on Black crime …take a look at Chicago. Blacks in Chicago are killing each other yearly in the thousands. Let’s talk about that. Kaepernick should go to the streets of Chicago and kneel.
    And now Kaepernick is capitalizing $$$$$ off of ALL of this from Nike. As someone said in the media a few days ago ……why don’t Kaepernick take all the money (100%) and donate it to the Black Lives Matter organization if he truly in Afro American issues.
    If we ALL will take time to just simply READ and PRATICE what the bible says ……and we would not have such issues. (End)

      Keywan Bernard because what the hell do they have to be ungrateful for? The fact that they can make money playing a game? That's not the country paying for that, that's the people watching them. And let's stop acting like playing football doesn't cause permanent physical damage. They don't have ANYTHING to be grateful for when it comes to country. Am I supposed to be grateful that people ALLOWED me to marry a white woman if I so choose, literally fifty years ago? Am I supposed to be grateful for the fact that the land of the free, home of the brave somehow trickled out black rights like they were drops from a runny faucet? Or that the Attorney General is old enough to have talked about Civil rights, and was AGAINST THEM AT THAT. What exactly are black people to be thankful for?

    • @jusbertmeza4424
      @jusbertmeza4424 6 лет назад +29

      Keywan Bernard because when black people rich are considered ungrateful just because they are successful. That's what trevor was saying

    This whole time we have been peacefully protesting. Silently asking for change, using our freedom of speech. And there comes a point when people refuse to hear our voices and so we raise our voices and say "enough is enough!" And then we hear "well why cant you protest peacefully?" We have been, that's the whole point! It was to peaceful and nobody was hearing us, so we raised our voices and demanded change, call it impolite and violent but if not using our nice words means change then that's what it takes.

  • @joshuarandall6041
    @joshuarandall6041 6 лет назад +9

    Protesting is about inconveniencing. It's about standing in the way to make a point. So many Americans in this country are oppressed by a system designed specifically to target them. The inconvenience of protesting is just that. An inconvenience, and this highlights the privilege. Many people in this country don't have a choice to not be targeted daily for something out of their control, like the color of their skin. If you are able to not listen, to ignore, or just change the channel then you are privileged to do so. The only way change works is when protesting in done in a way that the inconvenience is unavoidable and demands attention. What is worse anyway? Having to sit through the beginning of a football game with a few people kneeling at the televised national anthem, or being afraid that every time you leave your house, a police officer may shoot and kill you? If you scoff at the latter, it might be because you have the privilege of not having to worry about that.
