Why do police camera's have an off option? Even if you have to use the restroom they should have to call it in and get an approved break so they can use the restroom... crazy
The cameras they use in Baltimore record in a loop, but don't save until the cop turns on the audio. But, it saves the 30 seconds prior without audio. That's why there was 30 seconds of silent footage before the sound came on. The cop didn't know, or forgot, that it saves that last 30 seconds. Those damn cops were giggling like school girls about what they were doing.
Also its not necessary to have your camera on at all times(probably to save battery). They can have it off say as they are simply driving or patrolling. However, they are required to turn them on as they pursuit a person/crime/ investigation.

My friend got tired of being pulled over because he had a beat up car and drove through a 'bad neighborhood' on his way to work. He noticed that if he had a drink in the car, they often asked to taste it to make sure he didn't put alcohol in a cola bottle. So he pissed in a cola bottle and kept it sitting next to him in his car. They asked what it was, he said 'piss', and they didn't believe him. Until they tasted it. Go team.

What I personally find genuinely astonishing about the officers planting drugs, Is that no one is talking about the reality that the officers had drugs on them to plant. If the officers had taken the drugs from previous drug stops they should have been inventoried into the precincts lock-up. And if that officer had checked those drugs out then they Would-be reported missing if they were used in another bust. If they didn't come out of the precincts lock up than that means the officer acquired them illegally some other way, which means the officer has broken the law way before planting the drugs in this video. And then people quote statistics saying that black people and Latino's are more likely to be convicted of a crime because they are predisposed to being criminals, when the truth is that cops are likely stopping white people with drugs and simply taking the drugs and letting them go, not reporting them and then, using those same drugs to incarcerate blacks and latinos at a significantly higher rate. Then you wonder why blacks and latinos have such a torrid relationship with Law enforcement. When the cops get caught doing illegal things everybody wants to say it's just a few bad apples, but when it's people of color where all lumped in together...
Body cameras should only be able to be turned on and off at the police station. If officers have that kind of control over their own accountability device, it kind of defeats the purpose.
i got pulled over for a broken tail light, got a ticket, and when i got home checked it and both worked. I went to court over it. Kept telling the judge that it was never broken. They were going to make me pay a fine, till i said, ok, i got it fixed. Had to go show the cop that it worked. He agreed, i told him i didn't fix it. He looked at me and said i obviously did because it worked just fine. You can't make this up.

And then people quote statistics saying that black people and Latino's are more likely to be convicted of a crime because they are predisposed to being criminals, when the truth is that cops are likely stopping white people with drugs and simply taking the drugs and letting them go, not reporting them and then, using those same drugs to incarcerate blacks and latinos at a significantly higher rate.
Then you wonder why blacks and latinos have such a torrid relationship with Law enforcement. When the cops get caught doing illegal things everybody wants to say it's just a few bad apples, but when it's people of color where all lumped in together...

Body cameras should only be able to be turned on and off at the police station. If officers have that kind of control over their own accountability device, it kind of defeats the purpose.

i got pulled over for a broken tail light, got a ticket, and when i got home checked it and both worked.
I went to court over it. Kept telling the judge that it was never broken. They were going to make me pay a fine, till i said, ok, i got it fixed. Had to go show the cop that it worked. He agreed, i told him i didn't fix it. He looked at me and said i obviously did because it worked just fine. You can't make this up.

Matt T a high number of drug related arrests make the precinct look like they're doing a great job cleaning up the city. Those high numbers can be used as leverage when their top brass asks for better equipment and other shit like that. This is an oversimplification but it's more true than not.
Matt T Guys, don't forget political office. Prosecutors, police chiefs, etc. want to have impressive records so that they can get elected to local offices on the campaign of having "cleaned up" the city.

Well, hispanics _are_ one of the larger racial populations now, and despite their portrayal in media I believe on average most hispanics have a tendency to keep quiet about stuff. Most of them are just "regular folks" who are trying to raise a family and don't want any trouble. And yet there's such a strong resentment of them among the racist groups.
Clearly we need better ways to keep cops honest, and we need to be more strict about removing cops who break laws and/or act in dishonorable ways. I know we have a serious problem of the super wealthy trying to keep the rest of the country under their control, but the whole reason we have cops in the first place is to protect us and to keep order -- not to abuse us, ruin lives, and keep certain populations in fear.
Kind of sad because I used to live not far from Baltimore and can say that this is 100% true
