This is amazing John. I grew up in a very legalistic Arminian type church and just a few years ago found my way out and discovered reformed theology through the writing of Dr. RC Sproul, and a little later Dr. Steven Lawson, and then almost immediately found your podcast on Spotify and it has totally changed my life. For 30 years I tried to work my way into heaven and try so hard to be a perfect Christian under my own strength and failed so miserably I almost gave up and destined myself for hell. But when The spirit opened my eyes and I finally realized that it has nothing to do with what I do and everything to do with what Jesus did it changed everything. I have the assurance of heaven so rock solid now unlike anything else I’ve tried my entire life. Shortly after that I started studying Calvinism and the five points and they totally made sense to me like never before. I really don’t have a problem with the acronym and the words that were use with it because if you study the historical context of the words and the meaning at the time they totally make sense. The one point I can say that means the most to me and has totally changed me is the irresistible grace. I understand it to mean that when the Holy Spirit reveals the truth of the gospel to you it becomes irresistible to you and you want nothing more than to study it, live it and share it with other people. And what’s even more amazing is that my wife has said she notices a huge change in me and wants to know more about it as well. She was raised with the same theology I was and I want her to see the truth in the gospel and find it irresistible like I do.

That’s a direct contradiction of Romans 1. In fact, not even Adam and Eve ceased believing in God as a result of the fall. Yet this idea that all of humanity now comes into the world without the capacity to believe in God is a necessary prerequisite for the entire Calvinistic system. Did he have a choice? Could his will have changed the outcome? The bible says that God alone give us a new heart. Did Paul choose for himself to be converted? I would argue no one would choose Christ, it's not a easy. I'm surprised that people feel so strongly against Calvinism. I read the bible and then saw where the theology applied. "But woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye shut up the kingdom of heaven against men: for ye neither go in yourselves, neither suffer ye them that are entering to go in."
Does the phrase "them that are entering in" refer to reprobates that were passed over in eternity past, those of whom God (or at least Calvinism's caricature) is not interested in their eternal welfare?
If so, why would the Lord say that they were "entering"? And does this verse mean that they would have entered into the kingdom were it not for the fact that, according to the Lord, the Pharisees "bind heavy burdens and grievous to be borne, and lay them on men's shoulders"? Would the Calvinist contend that the heavy burdens of the Pharisees are the "means" by which God makes sure the non-elect are excluded, thus stopping them from continuing to enter into the kingdom?

The point made when Jesus spoke to Nicodemus about needing to be born again is utterly lost on people these days. That lightbulb moment, like Jon said, was asking the question "Did anyone have ANYTHING to do with their first birth?" The answer of course is "No." So what makes us believe that we have anything to do with the second birth? Jesus was always VERY careful and particular with His wording because He was always teaching multiple layers of wisdom. Hence, this is why He used the analogy of birth, where there is no volition or choice involved by the one being created.
Similarly, why else would man be described as "dead in trespasses and sins"? Ask those who espouse "free will" what does this actually mean and you will get all kinds of answers to try and get around that dead means DEAD. What do dead things DO? What is a dead thing capable of? Nothing but rotting. Likewise, when Ezekiel talks about God taking the heart of stone and giving a heart of flesh (again, God is the one doing it), think about what this means. Essentially this is God doing a heart transplant. What doctor or person performs their OWN heart surgery?

This is a silly argument. Yes, Jesus was saying you need to choose to be born again…baptism? And yes, us free-willers understand what it means to be dead in your transgressions.
Being dead in your transgressions means if it were left up to you, your salvation and eternal life would already be decided, you’d not gain them. Your sins already warrant death. But the good news, it’s literally called “the Gospel”, is that Jesus died in your place and God forgave all your sins so that now, if you only surrender to God he will grant you eternal life. Part 2 of 2. I disagree with any view that Calvinism is just another branch of Christianity. Calvinism has a different god, a different christ, and is another gospel. I believe that the most dangerous aspect of Calvinism is in P of TULIP-Perseverance of the Saints, and the false gospel of Lordship Salvation that defines P. Calvinism's assertion that, "We are saved by faith alone, but not a faith that is alone" is a subtle way of introducing justification by works into biblical Christianity.
According to P you must persevere in faith and works of the Law, you must submit to the Lordship of Christ, and you must be obedient and behave in certain ways otherwise you must not be one of the elect. This directly contradicts the many Scriptures that we are justified by faith in Jesus Christ apart from the works of the law. No where in the New Testament does it explicitly say that submitting to the Lordship of Christ is a necessary condition for one's justification.
Let me ask you only this: Did you receive the Spirit by works of the law or by hearing with faith? Are you so foolish? Having begun by the Spirit, are you now being perfected by the flesh?
    Galatians‬ ‭3:2‭-‬3‬ ‭
As you read the following Scriptures, please note, nowhere does it say that faith and believing unto salvation itself is a gift. The Scriptures say In Ephesians 2:8, the gift is "salvation" by grace through faith, not "faith" itself.
For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.
    Ephesians 2:8‭-‬9
Through him we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in hope of the glory of God.
    ‭Romans‬ ‭5:2
And to the one who does not work but believes in him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is counted as righteousness,
    Romans 4:5
I do not nullify the grace of God, for if righteousness were through the law, then Christ died for no purpose.
    Galatians 2:21
For we hold that one is justified by faith apart from works of the law.
    Romans 3:28
Now it is evident that no one is justified before God by the law, for “The righteous shall live by faith.”
    Galatians 3:11
And be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which comes through faith in Christ, the righteousness from God that depends on faith-
    Philippians 3:9
For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes.
    Romans‬ ‭10:4
Yet we know that a person is not justified by works of the law but through faith in Jesus Christ, so we also have believed in Christ Jesus, in order to be justified by faith in Christ and not by works of the law, because by works of the law no one will be justified.
    Galatians 2:16
For by works of the law no human being will be justified in his sight, since through the law comes knowledge of sin.
    Romans 3:20
‭For if Abraham was justified by works, he has something to boast about, but not before God. For what does the Scripture say? “Abraham believed God, and it was counted to him as righteousness.”
    Romans‬ ‭4:2‭-‬3‬ ‭
Do you see the problem? The moment you point to your obedience to God's Laws and your own efforts to prove your salvation, you are basing your salvation on "your performance" and not the "finished work of Jesus Christ", contradicting God's promise of salvation by faith in Jesus Christ apart from the works of the law.
Anytime you add anything to justification by faith in Jesus Christ, then you are perverting the very heart of the Gospel. Any time you introduce the exception clause "but" to the proposition that we are saved by faith in Jesus Christ, you are adding works to the Gospel. The fate of those relying on their own works for their justification is very clear in the Bible...
“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’ And then will I declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.’
    Matthew 7:21‭-‬23

Another good channel that exposes Calvinism is Soteriology 101 with Leighton Flowers. These channels biblically refute all of the typical proof texts that Calvinists use to support Calvinism. If you are a Calvinist, i suggest that you visit these channels so that you can see for yourself exactly how unbiblical Calvinism is.
Over and over the Bible warns of false doctrines and myths and heresies and the traditions of man creeping into Biblical Christianity, twisting and perverting God's Word and the Gospel of Jesus Christ, which is exactly what Calvinism is and does....
‭Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.
    Colossians‬ ‭2:8‬ ‭
O Timothy, keep that which is committed to thy trust, avoiding profane and vain babblings, and oppositions of science falsely so called: which some professing have erred concerning the faith......"
    ‭1 Timothy‬ ‭6:20‭-‬21‬ ‭
Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; and they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.
    ‭2 Timothy‬ ‭4:2‭-‬4‬

Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God: and every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.

    Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ: that we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive;
    ‭Ephesians‬ ‭4:13‭-‬14‬
If any man teach otherwise, and consent not to wholesome words, even the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to the doctrine which is according to godliness; he is proud, knowing nothing, but doting about questions and strifes of words, whereof cometh envy, strife, railings, evil surmisings, perverse disputings of men of corrupt minds, and destitute of the truth, supposing that gain is godliness: from such withdraw thyself.
    ‭1 Timothy‬ ‭6:3‭-‬5‬
I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel: which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ. But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed. As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.
    ‭Galatians‬ ‭1:6‭-‬9‬
If you are a Calvinist, please take heed to what I am saying. Conduct your own research with an open mind. The channels I suggested are good starting points. Recant your Calvinist beliefs and its many false teachers, free your mind from its enslavement to human philosophy, vain teachings without biblical substance, idolatry, and legalism. I know it is very difficult to accept that you might have been taught nothing but deception and lies in Calvinism. It was difficult for me to accept, and human pride resists any notion that we might be wrong about long cherished beliefs. But it is not impossible, and the Scriptures with the help of tbe Holy Spirit will lead you to Truth if you approach your inquiry with humility. May God bless you by the reading of His Word.

I believe the recent proliferation of opposition to Calvinism is the call of God upon the lives of modern reformed thinkers to rise to the occasion - we need to sharpen our thinking and become more biblical than ever.

1:35:00 christians cannot be trapped in sin. Where in the Bible do you find this? Book chapter verse? My Bible says in first John 3:9 "whoever has been born of God does not sin for His seed remains in him and he cannot sin because he has been born of God." Now obviously believers do sin from time to time but I think the idea here is that we cannot continue to live in sin like we used to before we were saved... when we were trapped in it & imprisoned & in bondage & enslaved to it.
That's what second Timothy 2:26 is talking about. It's describing an unbeliever.

Part 1 of 2. As a former Calvinist of over 20 years who is now out if Calvinism, i can make the following claims about Calvinism with a biblically informed knowledge base and without any reservations. Here are a few prominent observations.
Calvinism is not biblical. It was born outof a rivalous debate between Augustine and Pelagius in the 4th century AD. The entire Calvinist system is based on Maniachian Gnosticism, Pelagian presuppositions of free will, and Augustinian views of predestination and election, which contradicts the Biblical meaning of predestination and election.
The T in TULIP, Total Depravity, is built on the authority of these unbiblical, pagan presuppositions and not the Bible. The rest of TULIP (ULIP) necessarily flows if one accepts the false premise of T. Calvinism is therefore necessarily unbiblical. It is rooted in the doctrines and philosophies of man, and its authority lies there, not the Bible.
Calvinists are ideologically possessed, just like members of a cult would be, and they read the Bible with their unbiblical presuppositions and assumptions. They must cherry pick Bible verses out of context to support their Calvinist view. This is called eisegesis, and cults do this all of the time. They redefined biblical words like Predestination, Election, and Adoption to mean something that was never intended by the original authors. They invent words and phrases that are not even in the Bible. For example: Total Depravity, Unconditional Election, Limited Atonement, Irresistible Grace, Perseverance of the Saints; these phrases and many more in the Calvinist lexicon are no where found in the Bible. They are the words of man that do not correspond to what the Bible says.
To the Calvinist, the words "all", "every", and "world" do not mean what the Bible actually says. But because the Calvinist god is such an imbecile and can not communicate, it takes a Calvinist to explain what the Bible actually mean. Example:
This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior, who desires ALL PEOPLE to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom FOR ALL, which is the testimony given at the proper time. (emphasis added)
    ‭1 Timothy‬ ‭2:3‭-‬6
Here, the plain reading of 1 Timothy 2:3-6 does not support Calvinism which teaches that their Calvinist god desires that only the elect be saved and that Chist died only for the elect. Since Calvinists reject the authority of the Scriptures, they must twist the Scriptures to fit Calvinism instead of studying the Scriptures to see if Calvinism is true. So Calvinists, the next time you come across the words, all", "every", and "world" in the Bible, then you will see for yourself how you must ignore what the Bible actually says and insert your pre-programmed Calvinist explanation into the text in order to defend Calvinism, because the Bible is not your authority, Calvinism is your authority.
Sad but true, but Calvinists elevates the teachings of man above the Scriptures. They regard Calvinism's "giants of the faith" and many modern, cult of personality teachers as virtually infallable in their teachings. Celebrity false teachers like John McArthur, John Piper, RC Sproul, Paul Washer, Steve Lawson and many others are practically worshipped, and Calvinists will defend them and their false teachings at all cost despite the clear and unmistakable Word of God. It is a disgusting display of idolatry. Over and over rhe Bible warns against false teachers.
“Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing but inwardly are ravenous wolves.
    Matthew 7:15
For such men are false apostles, deceitful workmen, disguising themselves as apostles of Christ. And no wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light. So it is no surprise if his servants, also, disguise themselves as servants of righteousness. Their end will correspond to their deeds.
    2 Corinthians 11:13-‬15
But false prophets also arose among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Master who bought them, bringing upon themselves swift destruction. And many will follow their sensuality, and because of them the way of truth will be blasphemed.
    ‭2 Peter‬ ‭2:1‭-‬2‬
Preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, and exhort, with complete patience and teaching. For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions, and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander off into myths.
    ‭2 Timothy‬ ‭4:2‭-4
Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world.
    1 John 4:1
Calvinism is like a cult in the way it twist the Scriptures to fit their their faulty, unbiblical worldview. Worse, Calvinists actually clandestinely infiltrate non-Calvinist churches with the purpose of converting non-Calvinist churches to Calvinism. They are cunning and deceptive workers of iniquity who use manipulative and subversive tactics to convert people over to Calvinism. In this way Calvinism is a very destructive heresy that is spiritually abusive and tears churches apart. It is idolatrous, evil, wicked, and probably demonic.

      1. Calvin had a Spanish Physician arrested knowing he would be tried for heresy. Although opposed to having Servetus burned at the stake he was not opposed to his murder.
      2. Calvin believed in murder and believed executing some heretics was justifiable.
      3. Calvin taught only some are saved. Jesus taught in John 7:17 “Anyone who chooses to do the will of God will find out whether my teaching comes from God or whether I speak on my own.” Funny, Jesus said “Anyone”. Who? “Anyone” who what? “Chooses”. To do what? “The Will of God.” Not the “elect” not some. ANYONE!
      4. If salvation is predestined than why did Jesus teach us to pray in this way? “Thy Kingdom Come, Thy will be done.” Not my will but God’s will. It means we need to make a choice.
      5. Based on Calvin’s teachings (Notice not what Jesus says but what Calvin says.) Adam and Eve were predestined to Hell. Why? Because according to Calvinists they were destined to Hell. God did not give Adam and Eve a choice.
      6. Here’s one for Jeff Durbin since he likes to harass the Mormons. Joseph Smith and John Calvin are no different. They are both teaching to look to them instead of Christ for the answers.

What if God, wanting to show His wrath and to make His power known, endured with much longsuffering the vessels of wrath prepared for destruction, and that He might make known the riches of His glory on the vessels of mercy, which He had prepared beforehand for glory,
According to the Bible God is glorifying himself and He is making known the riches of his glory on the vessels of mercy that he has chosen, Also Ephesians chapter 1 states very clearly.
Also he is glorifying himself by not choosing others, or in other words, by choosing to not save others in order to show his wrath and to make his power known. So you can't say that this question you originally asked cannot be answered.
