As an experienced flight attendant, I can explain the seabass incident. In our flight manuals we are generally supposed to be informed that the selection is supposed to be divided equally. I am rooting for them 💯🇿🇦
He is a customer who paid for his business class seat, so he does not have to ask anything, and he is perfectly entitled to even assume - which is what any of us normally do when we do not receive explanations about something -; it is the crew's/airline's obligation to serve passengers in a manner consistent with the service for which they have paid.
If the Cabin crew is less than perfect, you can bet that translates to the Flying Crew and to Maintenance. SAA is just a big Cash cow and has been for many years. Taxpayers supporting a useless Government. If your OK with that, patriotism is not that by definition.
5:04 I was waiting for the lazer beams to flash from that flight attendants eyes and destroy your camera damn that was one full on look of hate in her eyes !
So, I’m a flight attendant, and I’ve worked in Business Class before. Honestly, some of the things the company does can be a bit ridiculous. For example, on our A330, we had 30 seats in Business Class, and the company would load 32 meals for Business. Out of those 32, let’s say it was like this: 10 beef, 10 chicken, and 12 vegetarian. Or in some cases, within those 12 vegetarian options, it might be 6 fish and 6 fully vegetarian dishes. To manage this, we had everything written down, the number of passengers and their names. As we took meal orders, we’d note their choices. Let’s say most passengers preferred the beef option. When we were running low on beef, we’d start saying something like, “Today, we have this wonderful fish or this special chicken dish.” The idea was to see if passengers would opt for these alternatives. If they didn’t, then we’d give them their original choice until it ran out. When the beef was gone, unfortunately, we’d have to approach the remaining passengers and say, “I’m sorry, but we’ve run out of beef.” I don’t believe the crew would take a meal before completing the entire service. However, I know that in many cases, some flight deck crew can be quite insistent about getting what they want. To avoid conflict, they often end up taking their choice early on.
We used to fly with SAA from London to Cape Town every year for our holiday, service on SAA was always amazing, so it saddens me that it wasn't the same for you, I realise that perhaps with the airline 'starting' up again, it's taking it's time to adapt to the modern world, I hope it succeeds this time! Exactly .surely they should have offered you a decent alternative? If they didnt I would have politely told that staff member that told you to take only one snack that I'm taking 2 of them as my requested meal ' disappeared ' 🤨 and I m hungry.
The airline didnt run out of food - it ran out of the food you wanted. Also - you upgraded less than 48 hours before the flight so it is logistically impossible for them to give you the order.
Josh, Cubana de Aviación is not flying now with its TU-204 because it is in maintenance. Right now Cubana is not flying with any of its planes. I have been on some of the best airlines in the world when they ran out my meal preference. I would not mark down SAA for this if it doesn't happen too often. If it does however, then it becomes a big problem. Regarding rationing snacks in the galley, that is something they should not do and hopefully they will learn from it.
Agree fully about the difference in service culture between ET and SAA; and it’s one reason SAA has so much potential. Like you I really hope to see them live up to that potential once more! since i only fly on economy class i prefer an overnight flights when everyone is tired and sleeping so the aircraft gets super quite. that is actually a priority for me
I dont get it, for special meal requests, once you make a reservation your pnr gets updated with the requested meal (since the other 2 alternative meals didnt meet your dietary plan) so why didnt you request for it ahead of time? 2 , Business class meals are not the same as economy meals so how come you think your meal requested ended up in economy or staff?
SAA has always been decent, but the catering in Business has always felt limited in terms of items running out etc etc. Feels like they load a mix of the precise number of meals, which inevitably means a chunk of passengers miss out on their first option. It doesn’t take much for things to go wrong. And then I used to get double frustrated when I’d find the crew eating in the galley, on occasion, options that were not available to passengers. Seems like pre-ordering is the way to go if they want to minimise waste. Otherwise, in the air it’s still a decent airline.
Crews can prepare their meals in the galley as long as they served all the passengers first then they can get the leftovers. That's how it's suppose to work cuz I've only seen flight attendants eat their meals after they have come by n served all the passengers. That way a customer cannot complain about the crew eating the food before hand. On super long haul flights crews may eat after each service is completed for the customers. If they are eating the airlines food before the customers even though they can grab the leftovers usually after the pilot crews get what's left and then the flight attendant can grab a leftover. That is a no-no from what I've seen over my 60 years of flying on many airlines around the world.
Depends on where you are going but overnight flights are best in my view because you arrive in the morning when onwards public transportation is starting up,etc with a long day flight you often arrive when things are shutting down leaving you at the mercy of often unscrupulous taxi drivers.

I do however think theres abit of an inconsistency issue with SAA as so many people have had either a really great experiences or just really below average but all in all, there is always room for improvement. I am rooting for them 💯🇿🇦
Well "as a South African.." may just say stop being a silly patriot. Crap service deserves to be called out. End Of.
@neil1688 What is wrong with being patriotic though? PERHAPS you should learn to "read with understanding" first.
I totally agree with you. Had a flight a month ago and NO complaints whatsoever. Love SAA.
Business Class and stingy staff? That sucks!
power corrupts and power over an upgrade still being enjoyed by the crew
5:04 I was waiting for the lazer beams to flash from that flight attendants eyes and destroy your camera damn that was one full on look of hate in her eyes !
😂😂😂
When the beef was gone, unfortunately, we’d have to approach the remaining passengers and say, “I’m sorry, but we’ve run out of beef.”
I don’t believe the crew would take a meal before completing the entire service.
And I beg SAA LONDON!!!!! PLEASE! And you are right, Cape Town is the most beautiful City in the world.... Keep Flying
British Airways and Virgin Atlantic offer far superior service than SAA. This is not the good old time before 1994.
@ I flew with SAA in 2018 and their service was far superior to British Airways, better food and better crew, and then, direct into the Cape Town… so, waiting…
@@easy1355 SAA doesn't have first class. Only business class
@@easy1355 That was six years ago. Now South African Airways is in disarray.

@ same as British Airways on the London to Cape Town service 👍
I am in South Africa, wow, i truly enjoyed your perfect analysis. We commit
To improve to meet global standards. Thank you
What can one expect from an airline that almost went bust 😁
Continously....
Hi great flight review like always, I’m a big fan from Germany
Thanks for all your awesome content this year. South African used to be a good airline. I had flown with them a few times between London and SA. It seems they have a few crew training issues. Hope you are having an awesome Christmas.
Wow, I would never trust them again. Done.
Brilliant to see you in the amazing country of Brazil Josh
Hi Josh, I've been binge watching your vlogs. Have you been on Virgin Atlantic? I'd be interested to see your review on them. Greetings from Brisbane Australia. 😊
Unfortunarely you'll not stay in Brazil and review some domestic flights here. I'd love to see that.. Hope you had a good stay here in my hometown of São Paulo. Safe flights, Josh.

Great to see that they reopened the Cape Town - Sao Paulo flight. I might just take that flight myself.

Thank you for the video!
Great Video Josh 👍👍🥳🥳The best seat on the aircraft 🥳🥳Really enjoyable watch ❤️❤️
Sao Paulo, large city classified as 33% slum. Real nice.
Yes thanks for South Africa 🇿🇦❤❤
Ahaha, you stayed in Protea Fire&Ice, the same with me. Exactly the same view of my visit to Cape Town, a cloudy day.
I would have said I was hungry because I didn't get my main.
Hey Josh, I'm exactly like you when it comes to tomatoes!
I will eat them on or in anything, but just the though of eating them alone gives me shivers.
I hate night flights. I have such a difficult time sleeping on planes.
Your title is kinda misleading. It seems like the crew is the problem.
What meals did they offer in place of the bass ? Just curious.
Exactly .surely they should have offered you a decent alternative? If they didnt I would have politely told that staff member that told you to take only one snack that
I'm taking 2 of them as my requested meal ' disappeared ' 🤨 and I m hungry.
A shame I used to use SAA alot from LHR to CPT.
They used to be very good.
Rgey are still good .Loose ends here and there but attitude still there to make your flight great.
Fun Fact - 1:10 We call it the "Table Cloth" when the Table Mountain is covered by the clouds...😅😅😅
The airline didnt run out of food - it ran out of the food you wanted. Also - you upgraded less than 48 hours before the flight so it is logistically impossible for them to give you the order.
Amazing flight review. Love from 🇰🇪
Josh, Cubana de Aviación is not flying now with its TU-204 because it is in maintenance. Right now Cubana is not flying with any of its planes. Their flights are being operated by aircraft leased from other airlines. But I would love to see your experience at our Havana airport. I work for American Airlines in HAV and I’ve been following you for a long time, so I’m happy that you’re in Cuba 🇨🇺 even if it’s something brief.
I have been on some of the best airlines in the world when they ran out my meal preference. I would not mark down SAA for this if it doesn't happen too often. If it does however, then it becomes a big problem. Regarding rationing snacks in the galley, that is something they should not do and hopefully they will learn from it.
Another great one Josh, As a Dominican you should try Arajet to Punta Cana. Living vicariusly through you.
I always love your content!
Merry Christmas Josh! 😊
I'm with you on tomatoes.
I'm not a fan of them raw, but cooked, they're delicious.
How much time is usualy given to food in planes before is have to bee change for fresh elements?
Agree fully about the difference in service culture between ET and SAA; and it’s one reason SAA has so much potential. Like you I really hope to see them live up to that potential once more! The yelling at you about a second snack sounds so strange; must have been just one rogue cabin crew and not official policy, right!? Anyway, nice video, I enjoyed it; made me want to take this flight. Also you have me dreaming of Tupolevs now 😎
I flew SAA to Munich Germany in July 19
Economy class service was better than Swiss air and Lufthansa
@airedition Are you the guest on flightradar 24? Is that really you?

I guess that last-minute upgrade to business class was the reason for your missing food!
Since 4 out of the 6 million Boers have fled South Africa, the economy has been seriously declining.
We Can't wait until the other 2 million Boers leave SA either.
They deserve to be an Immagrant in another mans country .Our people are reasonably happy and our economy will soon be better than TRUMPS .
And like most other south african tax payers I refuse to fly SAA, even if they gave me free tickets
"only 1 snack" - the aircrew pocket all the snacks for their own use😂😂😂😂
When deplaning, did you get to ask the captain how your sea bass was?😊
Should have 😂
Thank you for sharing, really enjoyed watching both your Ethiopian Ailines and South African Airways flight experience. Thank you for sharing your opinion. For me I love flying Ethiopian Ailines anywhere in the world, they just look after you.. just my experience.
who also thinks that Avianca has the most amazing airline name ? 👌👌💯💯😄😄
since i only fly on economy class i prefer an overnight flights when everyone is tired and sleeping so the aircraft gets super quite. that is actually a priority for me
I dont get it, for special meal requests, once you make a reservation your pnr gets updated with the requested meal (since the other 2 alternative meals didnt meet your dietary plan) so why didnt you request for it ahead of time? 2 , Business class meals are not the same as economy meals so how come you think your meal requested ended up in economy or staff?
Watching you sit in that expensive Business Class seat was making my neck hurt.
@ I do understand. I’m talking about crew keeping meals for themselves ahead of passengers, which has long been a problem on SAA.
What a laugh....😂😂😂😂
SAA is a joke.
Will never ever be the same again.
Avoid like the plague.
.
As a South African I will not fly with SAA. Had a very bad experience with them a few years ago. They have lost me as a client forever.
How patriotic of you 'South African'😅
Baie mooi. Try other airlines and see they all similar man😂 travel more and find out😂
@@kosiekoos9408 I'm flying about 4 to 5 return trips a month with my business.
@@heinrichvisser8518 Yes you correct because it's not your forefathers land anyway 🤣😉. Netherlands maybe 🤔?
@bhekisibiluane4030 you are the racism.
I guess one argument is that you should order a special meal if you have dietary restrictions.
SAA is a basket case. Has been for decades.
Depends on where you are going but overnight flights are best in my view because you arrive in the morning when onwards public transportation is starting up,etc with a long day flight you often arrive when things are shutting down leaving you at the mercy of often unscrupulous taxi drivers.
It is continent to continue t bro Brazil is 8 hours behind of sa
SAA, like everything in South Africa, has gone trough the drain since 1994. The country is getting "africanized" in the worst sense of the term.
notice lack of statements about our past .Not one person commented to say that we are africanising SA when APARHATE was implewmented .Maybe we should have said EUROPEANISED
So you wanted SAA to be Asianized or what do you mean? Where is it located in the map?
@@Flypoman123 Of course I know it´s in Africa. What I mean is that before 1994 South Africa was much more civilized than the rest of the continent. It was an exception. Now it´s just crap like the rest. Even their new flag looks awful.
All this is caused by the President who starts with letter M. 🤢🤢😡
agree
I flew South African Airways years ago from Johannesburg to Rio. It was a great flight...daylight all the way. The most enjoyable part...for me...was flying over the Namib Desert. The sky was crystal clear so from my window I could see where the sands of the desert went *right up to* the green tropical waters of the Atlantic. I got a great photo of it that I have to this day.
I'm Brazilian. On my last trip by the SAA the meals weren't so good, some members of the crew were rude, but not all of them. Brazilian airways seem to me more expensive and the meals not so good as well.
I agreed with that, South African airlines has more quality than Ethiopian. The only difference is that Ethiopian has more connections to the world 👌🏿 well said.
Last time I flew SAA they yelled at us that we had two blankets (from empty seats) and they literally pulled the blankets off us and threw them on the floor- looks like they haven’t changed their ways
You can be very glad that they ran out of food and not fuel! You should also be absolutely delighted that you arrived safely considering that the SAA is a BBBEE / AA / EO / DEI company.
SAA dropped a Boeing out of the sky when they had no BEE or any other bogeyman .What i do know it was run bu people that spoke afrikaans mainly
@@alert911-x3b Pray do tell us the details of this dropped aircraft! Was it dropped because of Afrikaans? Anything scandalous will be enjoyed.
Lack of food happened on my Delta flight from Detroit to Amsterdam last October. The crew stated that it was due to food services I Detroit. No deserts, no coffee creamer. Limited coffee and tea. Rear of plane got no breakfast before landing.
This is just an example of what is going on in the whole of South Africa since 1994. Heartbreaking what happened and is still happening to our beautiful country under the ANC gov.😢
Flew this before Covid. Great to hear they are back and kept the national logo. Did you need permission to do recording. How was your flight 9 hours and mines was 16
I'm Sout AFrican and I'm sorry for your experience. It is so bad to hear and watch this because I remember many years back how proud I was to see SAA planes across the world like Hong Kong, London, New York, everywhere we traveled there were SAA planes. But this is what corruption do to a country I suppose.
Misleading title, just for views
I always notice that the best airlines have younger people as service staff. Could be wrong but that's my observation.
Hi Sir, unfortunately, the sea bass jumped right back into the ocean 😄. I agree with you Josh, they should've handled it more professionally.
