    • @GearsandGasoline
      @GearsandGasoline  Год назад +131

      Obviously I normally downshift, I was demonstrating the poor powerband. But also, Lspi is more of an issue on cars with smaller turbos. This car was making no boost until a very high rpm, in these demonstration shots I was at 3-4k RPM. Still a higher rpm, and not in boost, which is safe from preignition. If i had a smaller turbo car and was in boost down in the 1.5k rpm range I would have an issue.

    • @Jakesinmotion
      @Jakesinmotion Год назад +14

      @@GearsandGasoline that's actually a pretty sensible explanation. No worries of a lean burn when the air coming in isn't compressed. Not to mention in most small turbo cars over 3k is way safe. I treat 3k as the threshold in my stock turbo 09 hatch and she's at 150k running great.

    My home state of MN is certainly missed, but not in the winter time! 😄 So many road trips throughout the Midwest. You did well at 16.8mpg. Mine does 17.2-18.0 highway. And yes, *power curve>power number* all day. Following a lot of car RUclipsrs, they're beginning to see the light and moving from the "nothing, nothing, nothing, boost!" setups with big turbos, to smaller turbos and balanced curves. 👌

    3rd comment:
    Power draw issues- turn the car off, (take the key out) and go across EVERY SINGLE fuse location (Take the fuse out, set your meter to amps) in both the engine bay and the footwell with a multimeter, one at a time. I've seen ABS pumps all the way to bluetooth systems drawing amps while the car is off. It seems daunting until you start narrowing it down. Good luck!

      i mean, when Subaru and Honda get beaten up by 7 other owners before you, because they think that they somehow got a race car with thinking that its "indestructible and no need any service" - is not justified to shit on car brand undeservedly, especially from rich Subaru rally history.

I noticed you put 93 in it all the way across the country. Which would have been fine. However you had it pedal to the floor with High gear high load low rpm on 93 octane and a terrible tune with timing too advance down low. Guarantee it.

      @@swecreations I like having lithiums in my rcs but not sold on one in a car unless its an ev. Thermal runaway outside its voltage range is a real thing. For as limited as a lead acid is in its operation I'd rather go that route than micromanage for a thermal runaway event. That's not counting evs as they have sophisticated microchips to do what most humans can't keep a 24 hour eye on. But I'm not even close to being an expert. Just lazy.

      @@Fyxxterzc Like 99% of Lithium 12v batteries are LiFePo4 and are quite literally more stable than a lead acid battery, thermal runaway is extremely unlikely if not impossible with these batteries. Even if you punch a hole in them and light them on fire they won't explode.
      You're talking about lithium polymer/lithium ion batteries, and these are pretty much not used except for 12v batteries for racecars like the ones made by antigravity batteries.

    I think the previous tuner did a terrible job. My 3582 and many other 3582's I've seen by my local tuner (Kozmic Motorsports) spool in a healthy 4k rpm range. Def should not be that slow.
    But still curious how that new one performs and glad to see you're getting an abused evo sorted!

    A 3582 isnt going to spool like a mhi-18k will. Going to sacrifice spool for the harder hit up top. Turbo seems unnecessary for the application so excited to see what the new turbo can do drivability wise. 4b11t is a plenty capable motor but as with anything in the industry, its pay to play. Car has changed hands a few times and obviously since Bens purchase, it needs some tlc and some things buttoned up before its ready to shine.

    This is an education for my future build. I have a GT3582R that i plan to put on a 2.4L (4) cylinder engine. The compression is 8.8:1, but i want to put it back to the stock 9.5:1, the redline starts at 7200 RPMs, but i don't want the boost coming in at 4000+ RPMs. What turbine housing is recommended to swap to? I really don't want to buy a new complete turbo if i don't have to. Cool video🏆

    Sucks the head gasket is bad but as on a incredibly modded motor making 700hp, that wasn't well cared for are you really that surprised?

    Yeah the evos can handle more power than a Subaru but I still wouldn’t call them reliable. Wrx’s are great daily’s in the 300whp range but past that you’ll need a built block. Good luck with this build; it’s an in-line so not as much of a pain to rebuild as a boxer

    Sad stuff at the end. Don't want to sound like a JDM hater but from my friend groups everyone who has chased power has eventually moved onto German vehicles for their stout powertrain. I am a JDM Fanboy at heart but now own a B58 powered car now.

      It depends more on the engine than JDMvsEURO. If he put a K24 in properly built with all forged goodies, he could make that 700 no problem.
      But then it wouldn't be a Mitsubishi.
