  • @TheBilliardCorner
    @TheBilliardCorner 2 месяца назад +43

    The reason the Talon keeps blowing coolant hoses was prob because all the hoses were old and worn. Pressure finds the path of least resistance. So when you replace an old coolant hose with a new one, the pressure is trying to find another way out which leads to finding the weakest line in the cooling system. Really have to replace all the coolant hoses in an old car like that otherwise you keep chasing leaks like this. The silicone ones are decent but you have to clamp them down a lot. Overtime the silicone ones can start leaking because it's not clamped down enough. OE hoses that are new seems to work better. Love the series Ben.

    It also puts a smile on my face, and brings back memories of when wrenching was fun --- because it was with friends. Over problems that you could solve yourself.
    Very much unlike the latest cars. That seem as though you need a PhD in molecular electro-techno-AI-tuning science (not a real thing) to do anything!
    And, of course, a wallet as deep as the Marianas.

      Sounds like certain wastegate set ups that make that tone. I hope it’s the case.

    At the end, when they started trying out some boost, why did it making that cyclic exhaust sound every second or so under throttle? It didn't sound like they were worried about it or mentioned it at all, so I assume maybe they knew what that was. Anyone got an idea? It very noticable around 31:40, for instance.

      i think its the wastegate sound with electronic boost controller. i used to have a turbocharged engine with screamer pipe, it sounds just like that before i remove the original boost solenoid and run the hose directly from turbo housing.

      That's how a 4 banger with an external wastegate sounds bc it's pretty much just open manifold pre turbo screaming to atmosphere

    • @Dakkie442
      @Dakkie442 2 месяца назад +2

      @@dkis8730 not always. if the wastegate is set really low compared to the turbos ability, it stays fully open under full throttle. there is no pulse in that case. source: had a dsm with a external wastegate dump running 26psi on a gtx35R

    Mark kinda right about AN wrenches though, I worked at harbor freight and one customer was livid that I didn't know what AN wrenches were and I asked my coworkers and they also had no idea, even after working there for so long and being casual car enthusiast themselves. We just didnt get to that level of fabrication where we interacted with AN fittings and tools

    I think part of the issues with these chassis & generally the car culture is that, they try to get away with pushing parts past their intended use, old gas tanks, hoses, engine etc. If more people planed out to "properly" build & maintain in the first place, a lot more chassis would be reliable. Not sure about Subarus though

    I had a '96 TSi awd when I was younger. I miss that car everyday. I was rear ended in it when I was at a stoplight in like '04. Insurance didn't give me $2k for it. The gas tank for that car is like priceless.
