Been a Tesla owner for a little more than a month now and I agree 100% that having all functions tied to the touch screen hurts the ergonomics and is my biggest frustration with the car. This mod seems very promising and you did an amazing job reviewing it.
Hi, - can you configure the dial wheels to set the aitflow power instead of the temperature? - can you set one of the buttons to set a specific AC setting ("only air downwards but not middle")? - can you set a button to "glovebox open"? All those are things I actually want to do, so that would be the reason to buy this. I don't really change the temperature, but I change the airflow power very frequently, and this dial knob being actually kind of "in the way" of the screen setting, I fear it would make it HARDER, not easier to use, if the knob can not be configured to set the airflow. Also I am greatly bothered by the fact that the "auto" setting of the car will always start spitting cvold air in my face (activate "middle" air). When I switch on the AC then I only want it to go up or down, not middle. So a function to set that to a button would be one of the core features why I would buy this.
@@MikeSeuss same opinion here. I really like not having so many buttons lying around, makes cleaning so much easier I use voice commands for GPS, calls & hot/cold temp, and have fan speed on left scroll that's everything I need for 95% of the time. the other 5% I just put it in AP and adjust screen brightness, pick a song or whatever Only thing I wish for on a physical button is preconditioning on command but that's rare so no real complaints here 😁
Thanks for letting me know this has been released. Unfortunately I went with the S3XY Knob when it was at its lowest pre-sale price. I think this is a great competitor for the S3XY knob, but the key will be in how the software works in the long term, as the S3XY control software is pretty mature at this point and does so much for your car.
Good review! My unit should be delivered this week and I'm still excited for it based on this video. I would also prefer the OBD method so I'll be on the lookout for that. I see the s3xy buttons guys released the s3xy knob so that was looking real appealing as well.
On a 17 inch screen there’s plenty space to put some fixed buttons to the sides or on the top or bottom portion of the screen for quick actions, wipers, headlights, glove box, ac and fan control. It should be like a widget or taskbar on an android phone if some users would like to use it or if you don’t want it then deactivate it. But there should be an option for everyone
There is something like that already, but the main feature is to bring physical buttons to those who like that old school feeling, also its much safer than tapping.
4:06 is to mostly because people refuse to use auto pilot, I never touch the touch screen with out engaging autopilot first. always do this never do it with engaging auto pilot first if you do then its your problem for driving dangerously.
I have had my 2020 Model 3 Stealth for three years. It doesn't have the motorized frunk or trunk nor the LED lights in the cabin. You can't open the trunk or frunk unless you're in Park, so why not just tap the picture on the screen instead of a button on this device? How often do I change the temperature setting? Not vey often. When I do, it's normally just a couple of degrees and a quick tap on the bottom of the screen is all it takes. Camp and Dog modes are used once you're stopped so enabling them on the screen is not taking your eyes off the road. Two taps on the screen and you can select one of those modes. Also, most of those items can be done with Voice Commands which do not take your eyes off the road. I think the reason the Tesla newbies may like this is because they are still used to knobs. I don't miss them at all. 😁 I see this item as a total waste of money and definitely not needed. But thanks for reviewing this. I totally enjoy your videos. Don't always agree with your opinions, but that's ok.
Thanks, it’s definitely not for everyone but the sales prove there’s lots of interest. Personally I’ll find it more useful when new features are released.
Yeah, my wife changes the temperature and fan speed on our Y every 3 minutes, on average! Sometimes even more often. No joke!! And the “auto” setting on the windshield wipers for the Y are not very “auto”. Tapping twice, or sometimes 3x, on a digital screen is not only a distraction while driving but an inconvenience. Musk took off the buttons because it’s cheaper to manufacture, not because it’s better or it’s what people want.
The bar is a great option. I think the price is high for such a inexpensive item to make. I know that plastic is somethings cheap looking, but it's still the cheapest way to make a product. I agree with you Mike that the limited functions is a bummer...that would prevent me from purchasing this. I want to be able to set the buttons for the functions I want...not the functions they bar allows. Once they get an OBD connection..that may raise the price more since it can now have more functions. Have to wait and see how that goes before I would decide if I would purchase. Personally, I don't have an issue with no buttons in the car..coming from cars wtih lots of buttons and knobs. It was just as hard to get to climate controls and other functions with my 2020 Expolorer. If I really need to peform a function...I wait till I get to a stop light...or if I'm on the highway...Autopilot allows me to get things done with confidence. Great Reveiw Mike...always honest and you are not afraid for the Pros & Cons ! Keep up the good work !

What is the removal like? does it come off without damage? Leaving anything behind? Ruin and screen protector?
Not too sure as I haven’t removed mines

Lack of physical buttons isn't "minimalist design". It's cost-cutting. Just say it like it is.
It’s both
it is literally a minimalist design tho. two things can be correct at the same time

The S3XY Knob looks insane and I look forward to testing that as well
I couldn’t find the app for Ctrl-bar for iOS on the App Store. Any ideas?

Explain it to me please , do I need to keep Bluetooth on my mobile after setup ? does control bar working without mobile phone connection ?
Yes, that is correct
The LED function is cool enough! Just too expensive for just that
I hear ya

Thanks and yeah I’ve seen the S3XY Knob, I look forward to checking it out soon!
I think the S3XY knob has the edge over this, esp for the price, but haven’t tried either yet.
Can't you use voice control to do most if not all of the features on the control bar?
Yes

Wanted to ask for a while but what % tint do you use on your windows and windshield, and what aero covers are you using? Your car looks sleek
Hey I have 15% tint and no aero covers, I have the stock rims on the performance model, the car is lowered as well due to the performance model
I've installed it and it's fine during the day but at night you're blind why didn't he develop those buttons with back lighting. Is it that difficult?
I agree 100%
Anyone doing these for other cars like BMW? I'd love to install this into my 2023 x1 which lacks buttons and a multimedia rotary control.
Not too sure
Just got the item, only thing working is led light I used android phone tried everything ctrl bar said uninstall/reinstall reset nothing works
Really?!

No unfortunately
I use voice control to change temps pretty easy for me 😀

The sexyknob from enhance auto is a much better product. Actually integrates directly with the cars electronics.

sexy buttons are better because you use the harness system
Hmm
i dont like the lag in it ,
Hopefully it improves in future updates
s3xy knob better and is the same price. I would recommend that over these but this definitely does look sleeker.

=\
I can see the delay and poorer build quality than anticipated, soft pass and looking forward to getting the S3XY knob for center console.
Looking forward to reviewing the knob as well
the fact that you have to hotspot the whole time is trash. I love traveling without my phone and just my pixel watch.
