Maybe the game need a Christian angled DLC? Where you get more character development for Jeanne.
Btw, Zhou Yu is from 3-Kingdom era fighting for Suan Quan/Wu Kingdom ;)

I mean we already have several characters tied to Christianity, so a DLC that might tie into the Shimabara rebellion a bit more could be interesting. And if anything expands on this Jeanne some more could come out, I'd just be so happy.
Also I knew where Zhou Yu was from, but not really any details. I've skimmed some information about him and the Romance of the Three Kingdoms online, but not much else. Thanks for informing me!

Another thing about Yamato Takeru, their "Saberface" design may have to do with the fact that the original legend is often called "Japan's King Arthur" due to the similarities but unique cultural spins of plot beats in their respective legends, which is also reflected in things like Yamato Takeru having the Divine Water illusion to hide the identity of their sword unlike Artoria's Invisible Wind to hide Excalibur. Just a neat little easter egg I found when trying to learn more about who they are and their legend.

    • @crazycrow9999

They really wanted to drive home the parallels between Artoria and Yamato. In addition to what you said, aother cool detail is the scene where Yamato is first summoned mimicking Artoria's summoning in FSN. And there is also the fact that the way they use their NP's is very similar (even the situations they're used in if I'm remembering Fate Zero right)

I don’t know if I would be that hard on Caster personally. I mean yes he is criminally under used, but I don’t necessarily see his change in motivation to be a bad thing. If we take his apathy towards the Waxing Moon as him being overconfident in his Master’s ability to survive, then his actions in A Ray of Light could be seen as him better accepting the reality of his situation in pursuit of his goals. The in game codex suggests that his obsession comes from the uncertainty surrounding his own existence, so we could say he is subconsciously prioritizing survival over all else and is mode of surviving simply evolves as the situation does.
Like I said, really needed screen time and I do realize a lot of this is inferred rather than proven. But honestly I feel what role he was allowed to play in A Ray of Light is part of what make it the best ending of the game.

    • @crazycrow9999
      @crazycrow9999  9 месяцев назад +3

I considered that angle for caster... after I finished voicing the script. I went into a little more detail on my thoughts about him in another comment so I won't repeat it, but tldr is that I think his problems are resolved with seeing just a little bit more of his perspective.
Screen time really seems to be the biggest problem with most of the characters here. A symptom of what could be considered a bloated cast. And I think being able to make inferences about characters is a great trait for a piece of writing to have. In this case at least I think it's a triumph of managing to avoid explicitly stating too much. A Ray of Light is personally my favorite ending. I have a preference for happier endings, and this is where Dorothea, Yui, and Zheng all end up in the best spot.

Pretty good although I do have a few things about some of the characters myself and details from the story line.
Compared to what’ve seen in other games Arjuna is actually friendlier from the get go. Without Karna’s mere presence his negative traits don’t come to the surface. Really wished he was used more especially the mayhem his half-sister unleashed on Edo.
And Aria I think is a little older but not by much. While seemingly a more kinder offshoot of Tamamo does have a hidden statistic side. Expressing an interest to see his crying face and likes Iori cause while she is possessive knows can’t claim his heart for her own. And yeah I don’t really trust the small stuff in the franchise not from prisms Illya, well mostly.
Mainly from fellow Alter Ego Kazuradrop…need I say more except she is bloody terrifying.
And onto the Rouge Servants themselves…yeah could have used them more. And as for the brainwashing on them originally, considering two of them are demigods I think the main reason it worked was because they’re significantly weaker. Yoshinaka was out of range at the time and was placed under spell the moment he got close plus his will while Samson broke free of the initial brainwashing from his blessing from God.
Onto the special two Rouges. Personally unless the DLC answers best I see it Gilgamesh summoned himself into the war out of boredom and entertainment. Ototachibana-hime and Saber are pretty sweet and the reason people are after her is as the 15 servant and summoned in Kaya she is perhaps the most effective candidate as a proper vessel for the Waxing Moon Grail to work, I mean it did wonders for Chiemon’s wish.
Finally Caster, Hidea-no-Are. I actually like him quite a lot.
He’s a egomaniac control freak as Japan’s first historian and he is running the Grail War behind the scenes, it’s implied that he posses an imperfect precognition and helped Tsuchimikado make the Ritual into a working order while improving the effectiveness in the background. His goal besides keeping his records is to keep existing as in history, no one knows if Hidea-no-Are actually existed or was a man or woman. That and believes in that history is written by the winners, he would be the winner. Sharing the grail’s wish with his master and seeks to eliminate the remaining Mystery in the world but himself to be on top and face no threats in making sure his recording is correct.
I mean it’s reflected with his stats and attacks, aside from helping in recording information he is a basic Caster with limited precognition, photographic memory, and limited reality warping depending on his magic reserves and First Noble Phantasm to create the rules of his battles. And his Second is summoning an effigy of the god created when from Izanagi’s taint from Yomi given form and is the very last resort when everything else fails.
Knowing of his limits very well and acts in the background avoiding all conflict unless he knows a good chance he could win or has no choice. Probably if he won Caster would have just been recording the rest of history in the background with nothing to oppose him. Leaving things alone unless something doesn’t act his way.
Not the best villain but an interesting take.Still quite like your rankings and can’t wait for the DLC…could do without the long wait though. Heard we might get the first episode next April.

    • @crazycrow9999
      @crazycrow9999  9 месяцев назад +3

Caster was actually the servant I had the hardest time ranking. At first he was right below Kouga Saburou, then I changed his spot three other times. I think he has the most interesting abilities out of the servant's in the game, and most of my negative feelings stem from wanting to see more of him. The main thing keeping him so low is how passive he appears to be. Even the digression that shows him doing things in the background makes him feel disinterested in the Ritual. If he had a digression that was even as simple as a cutscene displaying more of his POV he would get bumped up a few ranks.
I'm really hoping that at least one of the DLCs focuses on expanding on the characters who got limited screen time here, as outside of Cu, I don't think any servant was a bad fit for this game, and seeing more of what they think about the waxing moon ritual wouldn't be unwelcome.

@@crazycrow9999Honestly as an Arjuna fan (yes we exist, hello), I feel like the main Fate scenario writers (esp Nasu, I'm fully blaming that mushroom) just have something against him (and the Pandavan brothers in general) and a VERY VISIBLE Kauravan bias
Even in FGO, it took them YEARS to actually showcase and develop his personality (and this is in events, not main storyline)
In EXTELLA:LINK, he's still tied to Karna; here, he was severely underutilized.

Not a bad idea, but unlikely since Musashi has a master. And since we see the command spells get used on Musashi we can confirm that's the case. Assassin is really a lot of wasted potential.....Dorothea is by far my favorite Master, and their interactions are always amazing, but I really can't understand why he would stand against her after apparently being a great duo (hopefully the DLC gives us a bit more insight on this), hell IMO they could've easily been one of the last two survivors if the war went as normal simply because there isn't much anti-Divinity around, Musashi is on a timer, and Yoshinaka can easily slap Ushi Gozen around, though likely not winning because of Saber being basically a hard counter. His Noble Phantasm is the most unique, unlike everyone else who just does "generic big nuke attack" he changes his entire moveset for a bit....but the form he assumes isn't exactly the greatest to look at and while it does feel good to juggle enemies with the strong attacks, it's nothing that wasn't already possible with other characters. And while I really like his first heavy attack, it's an amazing offensive repositioning tool, the rest of his kit is just.....awkward

One of my favorite things about this particular grail war is how level the playing field was. Every duo felt like they were involved the whole way through, which can be a tough thing to achieve. Honestly the only masters I couldn't see winning this would be Zheng and Tsuchimikado. Furthermore, in one of the routes Iori has what, 4 allied Masters? That's insane. No other "normal" Grail war depends on the protag team advancing the plot aside from maybe Fragments. And just like in Fragments you need to make everyone else (including Jeanne and Musashi) look incompetent (and when they're allowed to do something cool, make it inconsequential) so that Iori and Takeru would look good in comparison. This guy is cool but has no business being there except fanservice)

Personally, I don't mind Tamamo or Prisma Illya. I hate the sterotype, but I don't associate age with art. However, Prisma Illya unironically made small characters in Type-moon so SUSPICIOUS.
Also, fun fact FSN Illya canonically is Chloe... I'm not joking. Illya without trauma would just be Chloe...💦

Ehhh... I think a truly bloodlusted Miyamoto Musashi could beat Samson. Right after the fight with Samson, Miyamoto comments about the power of Assassin: saying something along the lines of "I haven't felt such a quiver of raw power in a long time."
Obviously she wants to fight Assassin because of his strength -- and this is right after her fight with Samson.
So why cut Samson's hair instread of having Mushashi kill him?
    1) Story. There's a lot of setup to this: if there is no payoff, the story is lobsided and unnecessary.
    2) Preventing collateral damage to the town.
    3) Respect for God - "imagine a man blessed by all the gods and Buddhas."
    4) Correct me if I'm wrong, but Musashi wasn't powered up with Takao's "Command" ability.
I'm not trying to downplay Samson -- dude is incredibly powerful and actually a nice man. I just have a hard time believing that someone who (in the future) cuts the Void would lose to a rogue Heroic Spirit.

Musashi is the type to overcome whatever is in front of her, so it certainly wouldn't be odd to see her beat Samson normally. But as you pointed out, narratively that would have been unsatisfying. I'd still say Musashi would lose the fight since, during the fight Zhou Yu and Musashi team up against Samson, Zhou Yu remarks that if Musashi keeps fighting she will damage her spirit core.
Having said that, a full power Musashi being backed by Dayu's command spells could probably get the job done. It's not even unfeasible that Musashi could cut Samson's blessing, can't be too different from cutting karma I think. So yeah it pretty much comes down to what the writer wants since power-scaling in this franchise is relatively flexible.

I could be totally wrong about this, but I think there is a case to be made that Samson could beat Musashi due to the belief in his strength. Maybe this is just me, but concepts like "cutting the Void" seem too abstract to me to put much stock in. Samson's feats of strength, on the other hand, are recorded in Scripture that still-practicing religions would never dare question the authenticity of.

      @@KigaiOkasu One practical application of
"cutting the Void" is the ability to remove causality.
While that is described in-game as the ability to reverse karma, eliminate ill luck, and break hexes, the ability to remove causality infers far more than that!
I personally believe Samson was a historical figure who really was blessed by God with abnormal strength. I also doubt Samson's hair was green. Regardless, I fail to see how either have any bearing on a video game's lore.
I think F:SR was very respectful of both Samson and God -- even going so far as to say that being blessed by God is "like being blessed by every one of the gods and Buddhas." Of course, if God blesses Samson (meaning that God exists in that game, that universe) then God also created the elements and the Void, etc... I don't see much difference between the "source" except that Samson is more directly from God rather than indirectly. That doesn't mean he automatically wins - he would absolutely get dominated by Gilgamesh, for example.
