Rest In Peace Even growing up after his death, I always looked up to Johnny as my hero.It always struck a cord (no pun intended) with me at the thought of a guy from the backstreets Of queens can become one of the biggest rock bands of all time. I remember one interview where he was talking about playing guitar. He said anybody can play guitar, but you gotta have the drive to really be considered a guitar player. And that right there is what inspired my 14 year old self to ask for an electric guitar for Christmas. And the next thing I know I get a peavy Stratocaster and one of the first songs I learned on there was blitzkrieg bop. And as a little fun final thought. At Least come my time to go to those golden gates, I hope The Big Man will allow me to play my guitar alongside Johnny for the rest of eternity.
Its the tragedy of life, simply played out in their music, their lives... Just like the tragic lives we all tend to find ourselves wrapped up in as we grow older.... Tragic, but graceful and beautiful all at the same time.
It's sad, because Johnny never really abused drugs or a heavy drinker. He never smoked cigerattes earlier. Just shows you that sometimes it doesn't matter whether you live a healthy or a hard life style. Some people just get cancer.

The orginal "three" where Johnny, Joey (on drums) & Dee Dee. Joey couldnt keep up. Tommy there first "manager/roadie/agent" took over on drums, then they started recording.
Yes Marky is still alive, but Tommy is the only one alive from the original ramones. Richie and CJ Ramone are still alive as well, but the "true" ramones, johnny, dee dee, and Joey are gone, RIP Ramones, we will never forget you!!!!!!!!!
@James Maher Stooges and MC5 were playing with the raw form of Punk, hence their credited as being the first Proto-Punk bands. You didn't, however, hear the blaring "buzzsaw" sound - that would define the Punk Rock sound - of rapid-fire heavily distorted barre chords until The Ramones (Johnny's contribution) nor the combination of same with fast-paced poppy melodies that also defined the early Punk Rock sound until The Ramones. That's why they're credited (rightfully so IMO) as the actual first Punk Rock band. Without The Ramones there are no Sex Pistols or The Clash and without the Sex Pistols success there is no The Damned and without those 3, there is no big UK Punk Rock movement and so on and so forth. The Ramones were pretty much the proverbial "pebble dropped in a pond" the started the ripple effect of many outsiders who didn't think they were good enough to be on stage wanting to pick up an instrument and start a band. They were the first that really started the ball rolling for Punk Rock.
I didn't realize he died of prostrate cancer, that one got Frank Zappa and my Dad too, of course the agent Orange my father got sprayed with while doing two tours of Nam didn't help his health but I digress... These were not old guys either so listen up you guys, and get it checked by that cute little PA ( or what have you) before you become legend before your time...
