I don't know a single thing about metal casting, but I've been following for about 6 months now and I've always been curious and fascinated by what you've done. Plus you're editing skills are great too. Literally just keep doing what you're doing and I'll keep coming back for more :)
You need to add some boric acid to your silver as soon as you turn your furnace off. .25 grams for every 10 ounces generally works well depending on how good/clean your .999 silver is. You may need to adjust that if you have more impurities floating on the top. Your silver was too hot when you poured. Wait until the rim of your crucible starts to darken. Keep your stream within an inch of the edge of your crucible and keep a slow steady stream. That will help with out gassing and minimize craters in the middle of the mold.
Instead of removing the sprites from the top, could you have used a propane torch to heat and melt them back into the mass of silver? Great video. Thanks for sharing. Make today great.
It would be fantastic if you could make a video in which you 3d print a mold, pour wax into it, and then dip the wax model in Suspendaslurry to determine whether the wax evaporates faster or slower than PLA and also if the final product quality suffers or improves. The mold may be printed with 0% infill to save time and material, and it can be reused to create several wax models, reducing print time even more. Also, make sure the mold is made of a heat-resistant material like PETG, as PLA may distort when pouring hot wax. Love your videos, keep it up!
excellent! love your attention to detail and truly amazing casting videos! I love love love this channel - keep up the great work! I hope 2022 is great for you!
Very cool.err..hot. I did a lot of jewelry casting in my youth. My mentor taught me about casting shrinkage.so to get the exact weight, you add a little more to account for the vaporization. But you did a fantastic job. Congratz on the award
If you use flux, you probably wont have the bubbles. Also if you use vacuum casting in plaster, you can have much more details in your casting. And maybe you can use the 20 grams of silver to do just that. :) You need some good burn out resin. I saw "VOG jewelry" do a lot of that. Greetings, Jeff
Fun fact Cody’s lab was one of if not the first RUclips channel to make their very own RUclips play button out of silver… of course he added gold to his too but that’s Cody for you
i would of prolly tossed in an extra one ounce bar during the melt. ive seen people do stuff like this before and always complain its under weight after they clean it up. nice work!
Next time you may want to do this I suggest you pour the metal under a propane torch. This will help release the oxygen and probably will mitigate the silver sprouting in the back of the project
Hi! I’ve been following your channel for a month or so and I’d like you to know, you taught me more than my foundry professor ever did! Thank you for these videos!
Congrats on reaching 163k Subscribers 👍⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ When melting Silver you will always lose a couple of grams It will just burn away, and also I will bet you, You'll find tiny beads of sliver in the Crucible.
Two questions: 1) Why did you print the mold up at a 45 degree angle like that if you were just going to peel off all the supports anyway? Is that some side effect of the resin printing process? 2) How much work do you have to put into cleaning the crucible before you melt stuff in it?
Don't feel bad about the weight. It wasn't going to weigh 1k either way. You always lose some weight when resmelting metals and you lose some during the polishing process as well.
This was cool to watch. I just recently started learning about pouring silver and after watching this video, I think when I reach 1000 subscribers, I want to pour myself a play button. I'm thinking 5oz !! Thanks for the inspiration !! I dropped you a sub !!
I wat to thank you for making this content. I really loved the sea shell 🐚 castings. Someone does own a full silver play button (that I know of) that is Cody's lab
Looking at your nice work, I all of sudden think of a huge challange people had succeeded before and did not document how. I am not asking you to try it because it is very hard, but I wonder if you could describe how it can be done. The problem is: Cast 1KG cylinder with mirror finish using metal material of choice such that the mass error is less than 0.05ppm and the yearly error is less than 0.5ppm.
Congratulations on the milestone! You definitely deserve it. Glad to be part of the journey, and here's to a hundred thousand more! What could you use to de-gas the silver? Would borax work? If memory serves, borax works on copper, which is in the same metal group.

I'd hope after 6 months you have learned SOMETHING. I know that I have lol
@@gloriouslumi I know not to touch hot molten metals unless I've got my salad tongs with me ;)
@@gloriouslumi yeah that's wild. How do you watch for 6 months and not get a basic understanding of what's happening/being done 😂
@@skrimper bruh it’s a joke lol
i really enjoy watching your videos! congrats on 160K!!
Great video, can’t wait for “casting a 5 kg pure diamond play button - 10 million subscribers celebration

Any tips on gold with borax per gram and melting in crucible ready to sand cast
Is the circular mark on the front a result of where you poured in the silver? It appears to be in the same spot.
would it have been possible to just torch those bits on back and melt them in?
totally curious.
There’s an evident circular ring depression on the front. Do you know what it’s from?
Those 3D printers are something else. Awesome.

Would Not Work, Silver Doesnt Melt Like That In BIG Pieces !
generally a degasser agent like borax is used
Good times right there! Sux to get the warts eh! Yup oxygen escaping! Happens alot when using Petro bond. Not so much when using graphite molds!
We need to get this guy to 1 Million Subscribers so he makes a pure gold play button.
Very nice! Congrats on your 160k subscriber milestone
Gratz!
Scanned around and while other folks have done pure silver play buttons, they've all been tiny ones in the quarter pound range.
Congrats on 100K!
Hey, Merry Christmas to you and your family.
Lord bless you all in the coming year.

Looking forward to the pure gold play button when you hit 1 million subs!
you deserve everything. There's almost nobody that does casting as well as you and teaching.
Nobody does casting as well as him?.....C'mon now man you are going a little to far.
Congratulations Seth. Your videos are phenomenal, they're both educational and entertaining. Keep up the good work.

But I was wondering if u could make a deer antler I think the would be a cool to see how it would turn out.

I’m a junior in high school and I think your videos are very intriguing. Keep it up! 👍
I absolutely love your narration. Very satisfying. Of course I love the over all content as well. :)
YT should give out these to smaller channels and gold ones to bigger ones and diamond to the top 3 😎
This guy is literally my favorite RUclipsr

Congratulations on such a successful channel! It’s great to see!
yeah man, bravo and thank you for sharing your passion
Congrats!
Exited for the Pure Gold one.
I miss the old design for RUclips play buttons, used to feel like more of a trophy than a plaque
great as always . I watched your creation to the end and enjoyed 😍😍😍👏
Came out great 👍. I always learn something when I watch your channel 👍🤠

Very awesome. Thank you
Awesome! I love poured silver!!! Keep it up! 🤗✌️✌️
Can’t wait to see you make the gold one soon :P
It's awesome to see the transition, new subbie and 👏 congrats
Very high quality videos with high quality casts, what not to love about your channel!
Great video mate, and a huge congratulations! Loved the play button and how it turned out. 😀
Awesome work on the play button and on breaking the 100k mark. Congrats
Looks great, congrats on the 100k!
You are so lucky I'm not your neighbor, I would drive you nuts by coming over all the time to watch you work.
Congratulations on reaching 100k subscribers it is well deserved. 👏🏻👏🏻
White rouge or jewelers rouge works really well on silver.
You could 3d print a jig to hold the stamps inline
Congratulations!
I'm curious though. Why did it look like there's some sort of circle indentation next to the triangle?
Is it from pouring?
I'd assume it's from the abrasive wheel being pushed in a little too hard.
@@wesleymorrison9941 lmao that indentation isn't nearly the same same size as the wheel.
Its from the grabbers. Notice how there's an indentation on each side, they're perfectly opposed
@@D__x yep, silver is dense and falls from high. To avoid it, he should have done a feeder channel, but it would not have done a final 1kg piece.
What's that circular defect on the face of the button? I didn't see that in the mold...
You can place it, like a soap ornament, in the bathroom.
Great Work!!👍
I love melting silver it's so pretty
If you use map gas while you pour it will reduce the silver from bubbling
I love your creations my guy. Plz keep making more content
@codyslab made a gold play button which was pretty cool!
Damn you look... you look normal... completly different than I thought judging by the voice. Congrtats!
thanks
was there no way to target melt those dendrites back? Silver melting is 1000 C, and propane torch is over 2000 C.
I sure got my $0.0075 worth. Thanks for the great videos
I see a circle to the right of the play button !!?? See @6:58.. PS CONGRATS on 100K
@abeleski 3:28 where the pour hit the mould.
I love to see silver freezing.
Kind regards from Treasure Island
Hi, i am casting newbie. How it is called that thing (it looks like a can with lever) at 2:14 what softens the petrobond?
make your casting to allow for removal of metal to reduce down to desired weight,if weight is critical.
Two questions:
1) Why did you print the mold up at a 45 degree angle like that if you were just going to peel off all the supports anyway? Is that some side effect of the resin printing process?
2) How much work do you have to put into cleaning the crucible before you melt stuff in it?
I can’t speak to 2 but when resin printing you want to angle the print somewhere between 30-45° as it gives you cleaner details on the print
Great job
What is the bit called you used to polish the silver please
Whow iv never seen that "sprouts" before.
nice job mate

can't wait to see the price tag on the gold play button. that's gonna hurt.
Its def worth more than the fake silver one they send you... Plus it will appreciate value over time. 😂 great job!
Looks just like the original love it
You should make more videos caise you are my fav metal man

Reduction atmosphere or maybe melt in an inert gas.
Awesome!!!
Also you should make your own bar of silver
Здравствуйте, во што отливаете изделия? Песко формовочная смесь?
Good job
Your voice is hauntingly similar to another great RUclips creator, the late Grant Thompson.
I also noticed that
Sweet
Nice!
love the vids
Bigstack D did an Aluminum one for his channel. He prefers Aluminum over Silver.
Can you try making one out of titanium? 😁
You should make videos on weekly basis.
