Drifting in the rain exaggerates all of a car's existing strengths and weaknesses, and also slows everything down so new drivers have more time to react and learn the timing and balance for drifting. It's a double-edged sword, but one you can learn a lot from!
best drift teacher i've ever seen. I don't understand why every video i watched about how to drift they never explain when you use the throttle but you explained it perfectly thank you so much!
That’s great feedback, I’ll keep that in mind for future vids! This was a spur of the moment filming and it was kinda tough shooting outside the car in the rain, but thanks for the suggestion, I’ll definitely keep it in mind!
Bro. Watching this irl video is so cool. I'm used to all of your sim vids. It is soooooo similar that it blew my mind how it's just like friday streams minus the cost and obvious damage factor irl lol. Amazing video my dude
Haha yeah I’m just chilling and chatting and pointing at things one handed. What’s wild is I actually drive better than sim because my old friend weight shift is back in the picture and I’m not distracted reading chat 😂
If you are looking for future content ideas. I would greatly enjoy a video on how to do various forms of drift car control. IRL or on Assetto since the basic concept should be the same. For example, long wide radius corners, if you are in second and you can’t seem to link the entire corner without throwing a manji in, what can you do? Or if you are doing a high speed entry (think FD Atlanta style) you pull the hand brake to enter, but you are still carrying too much speed, or you spin out on entry. I feel like drifting is composed of: If I experience this situation I have several “levers” to pull to try and salvage the situation, more throttle, less throttle, foot brake, hand brake, more steering, less steering, gear up (IE more wheel speed) etc. Sometimes in my drift practice I find myself in these strange situations and I struggle to theorize exactly which method will resolve my issue. I feel like these videos could be relatively easy to film by just going to corner X and entering it several ways and then discussing what you did / didn’t do. Love the videos! Thanks a ton!
That’s a great bit of feedback! I can’t promise how soon I’ll work it into my content strategy but I definitely have more tutorials on my agenda for this season!
We take guys from having never driven a manual car to acing figure 8’s and sometimes even linking a very tiny slow course in one day 🤙🏻 Its solid advice that translates to simulators too, assuming your sim hardware has good self steer like a belt drive or direct drive, anyway 👌🏻
Hi Kame! thanks for your videos!...Have a request for you...can you do a tutorial on AC about how to drift down hill on a medium speed track or touge course. If I make a mistake on uphill I will make ten on downhill...and also how to drift at high speed on straights....thanks! :)
It’s an absolutely massive part of it, yes! Though 99.99% of the time if you let go of the wheel mid-drift the car will not remain stable, so there’s definitely some anime superpowers going on there, too. I like to think it’s theoretically possible, but probably not humanly possible 🤷🏻♂️
damage tho man wud love ti see alot more irl teaching also explaining different setups like if u slam ur car vs arch gaps, camber setup like what happens if you add too much. my maxpeeding rods are maxxed on the front lols how tyre choice can change the feel. fat front skinny rear slow cars good or bad what happens if ur running too fat a tyre also tyre pressures x
Everything interacts together so it definitely takes a while to understand it all. Though plenty of ppl drive just fine without knowing more than the cockpit control 🤙🏻
No handbrake or even clutch for this, just driving with 1 foot (throttle only) Cut wheel and apply throttle at a speed low enough the car doesn’t understeer, catch the drift by letting off throttle momentarily, and then balance it with throttle for as long as you want to continue turning in that direction
This was a students car at a drift school I was instructing at, so I don’t know the full story behind it. My guess is that it was part of the factory wheel buttons, like maybe a cruise control selector or something, and he kept it for convenience on the street 🤷🏻♂️
It’s the cruise control buttons and 350s also use those to switch maps if your tuned and if you have an aftermarket wheel you can just have it dangling somewhere or leave it like him
Yeah I’ve gotten a few insightful comments along those lines😅 He did better but I was off to the next driver to help them improve so I didn’t get that footage 🤦🏻♂️ I’ll be keeping these comments in mind next time I record during IRL coaching sessions

a 350Z is very driftable in its stock form and is a great car for learning. Unless you want to focus on drifting alot. If that's the case I recommend you get a car for drifting and another one for daily driving unless you want to be walking a lot because a drift car will get beaten up. At one point it just makes sense to have it for one purpose only and not worry about MOT :)
Like TrackSnail said, you can drift a stick one, but the ideal budget setup is coilovers, an angle kit, welded diff and hydro ebrake, plus an extra set of OEM wheels to save some money...probably 3-5K plus the cost of the car itself depending on what specific gear you go with. I haven’t priced out a build but that’s my rough guess 👍🏻
First gear for this demo, in a bigger space with more grip it works the same in 2nd or 3rd, you just need more room and some clutch kicks if it starts to bog down the engine
It felt like a welded to me. That said, I learned on a drifter with an S13 VLSD for 2 or 3 years and it wasn’t too bad. I’ve also got a 370Z drift video in the channel library with a VLSD and we linked the track in the dry easily, so as long as it isn’t an open diff and it’s in good working order, you’re all set.
The Z’s have pretty long gearing so yes, it was all in 1st in this chassis. My 6 speed S13 with a 4.08 rear end I do everything in 2nd. The gearing matters more than the gear, if that makes sense…so if 1st is too short, use 2nd (same goes for 3rd thru 5th on tracks too, lol)
Is it just me or is sim drifting/racing not even close to real life? I've been racing auto cross and participating in small drift events for years and I just cannot get the hang of this sim driving on assetto Corsa. Is there something I'm missing here? The cars are overly twitchy, they plow out of every corner when not under throttle, I'm just so confused
I think there’s a 99% likelihood it’s because you aren’t feeling the weight shift like you do in real life. If you could, you’d probably be terrified of your driving in sim (not just you but most people...it took me a long time to finally begin to substitute visual references for weight shift and speed sensing I do with my sense of balance in real cars)
@@KameTrick appreciate the response. My buddy was telling me to spend a few dozen hours only driving slow vehicles that don't handle well with all assists off to get a feel for the in-game speeds and physics, so I've been doing career mode and also some laps on the nurburgring with a Miata and a fiat
My bad, filming this was just a spur of the moment thing otherwise I would have tried to. I was off to help other drivers after this clip!😅 That said, he did start doing better. All that was left was to work on the timing of when to transition so he didn’t hit the cone or come up too close to it 👍🏻
He does, but hadn’t done much street stuff or legal events prior to this 🤷🏻♂️ Honestly I was the same since I didn’t have a no-consequences driving simulator to build my comfort zone with back in the day-I tried to drift my low power car without clutch kicking it or anything for a while cause I was worried something would break.
