When this was the only movie out by these three dudes....I thought it was the best thing ever, but I might even vennture to say, I obviously still LOVE this movie, but its probably my least favorite of the three. Hot Fuzz being my favorite. Worlds End is a VERY close second. The use of the N word before around the early 2010s was frowned upon, but depending on where you lived, it wasn’t really frowned upon much more than the word “cunt”. In fact some would’ve been more upset by “cunt”. It was primarily ignorance, but there was also this notion that if you were progressive, you weren’t racist, you got along with everybody, so for the sake of shock value, you dropped an N-Bomb to make people laugh, kinda like Nick Frost did in the film. If you grew up in a primarily white community with few or no minorities, you were more focused on the personal context behind why you used the word, having no ill intent and purely using it like any other curse word, and not yet empathetic to the broader context of why you shouldn’t. The internet and social media gradually eroded at that notion, though.
It really is a fantastic movie. And the ending is the best. Shaun gets to grow into his relationship with Liz and Ed gets to experience his best un-life. 😅
Classic case of freedom of speech for me… but not for thee. It’s offensive and wrong if one group(white guy) uses it no matter the context and ‘target’ (other white people whom the guy saying it to is friendly with and with no black people around to offend..)and always excusable and even encouraged if another group (black RUclipsrs whom make money by being… just kinda… extra….) uses the word…
I've seen this movie to maybe three times all the way through and some clips here and there and I have never noticed that he said that before. Normally that's something that would really really trip my radar right away. weird how I missed it. must have been his accent & the fact that I wasn't expecting him to say it. My ears are really attuned to it because I'm never around the word and never hear anybody say it, because I refuse to listen to "black" rap music because of that word. That said, I'm sure Ed and the writer of that scene and Nick Frost all three meant it in a fun and not a mean way. he was kind of joking by trying to sound gangster In an obviously dorky way.
if you guys haven't already watched highschool of the dead you should, Shaun is in the anime working at a gas station in the same outfit. He's also in Land of the Dead as a zombie.

I love this movie it’s so stupid but hilarious I definitely go back and watch this almost every year I enjoy parodies and this is one that’s honestly funny.
I'm pretty sure on the dvd there were secret scenes where three of them in a comic book form showed diane surviving, shaun went back for ed because he was hiding under the stairs, and when shaun was distracting the zombies one turned it's head and saw him going back.
Thing is this is how zombies have pretty well always been portrayed. Only recently with the Brad Pitt movie walking dead etc that you got the fast ass zombies
Return of the Living Dead had fast zombies (85). Im sure there are plenty of examples of it. As long as it serves the story, I dont really think it matters the speed.
Other good parodies are Hot Shots and Hot Shots Part Deux, and the Naked Gun 1, 2, and 3 movies. These are 90s movies so they reference other media during that era.
I saw Shaun when it first came out. But the original zombie parody is called Return of The Living Dead in 1985. I think it's funnier than Shaun. Liked your reactions.
