    "It's like Maze Runner and Divergent." Hunger Games came before those, both the movies AND the books. Susanne Collins deserves credit for her world building and idea of what a dystopian U.S. would look like.

    Rob was spot on. The reason behind the games is to divide the districts and pit them against each other using innocent children in each district so that they wont start another rebellion. The winner is not the only one receiving riches but the winning district as well. So the idea of Katniss and Peeta working together is a big slap in the game’s ideology of diving the districts.

    • @Dreamer-sz9cu

      I kinda hate that instead of focusing on Gale/Peeta/Katniss being openly political very early on they focused on the love triangle. If it meant we got the glimpses of Gale radicalizing Katniss in the woods, I couldve gone without their kiss. I remember when she buried Rue in the books she was thinking Gale & Peeta, wanting to say "fuck you" to them, and thats why she did it. So much lost for the love triangle.

    When Haymitch says "Embrace the probability of your imminent death And know, in your heart, that there's nothing I can do to save you" just breaks my heart. The kids from the poor side of District 12 have to sign up for grain and oil to be able to survive. They need to sign up once for each member of their family and what it does is put the name of the child in the reaping for each time they sign up. So if a child has 3 other family members, the first year , they have their names in 5 times (4 x for the food + their regular entry). The following year, they have their names in 10 times (4 times for the food x2 years + 2 'regular' times.). The third year, they have their names in 15 times (4x3 years + 3 regular times). You get the picture. This is why Gale's name is in 42 times instead of just once per year, because he has 2 brothers, a sister and his mom. That means most of the chosen tributes come from "The seam" (The really poor part of the district). They are starving, they are small, they are tired, have no energy or muscle mass. No sponsor would take them on. So for the last 23 years, Haymitch watched 46 kids die because there was nothing he could do to save them. And then, he had to go back to the district, year after year, and face the families and loved ones of those 46 fallen tributes. For the last 23 years, he has to live with the memories of having failed to save those children. I don't even live in that world and I want to drink.
    When he sees that Katniss and Peeta have heart, they have spunk, they have muscle mass, he sees that maybe, just maybe, there is a chance he could bring one of them back alive... no matter how slim that chance may be. Sorry, this is one of my favorite series of all time so I tend to get overly passionate. Also, seeing all of you make the salute in the honor of Rue's death gave me chills... Let me tell y'all, the movies are great, but the books are even better. The Hunger Games is so fucking well written and honestly shouldn't even be put into the same category as Twilight. I am deadass convinced that the reason people associate The Hunger Games with Twilight is because these movies were coming out just as Twilight was ending, and the media wanted another teen romance thing to root for. But honestly the books are so much more serious. Like the world of The Hunger Games is about a country rebelling against fascism and heading into a second civil war being lead by a bunch of teens and young adults who were sick of killing each other! I kinda hate that the movies were not taken as seriously as the books intended. But still, the movies are great and it's a fantastic series.

    • @quinnzelreign8775
      @quinnzelreign8775 Год назад +9

      The only reason it's in the same category is because it's famous teen fiction. Harry Potter, Hunger Games, Twilight, Maze Runner, Divergent, etc. Clearly some are better than others but they are all well known books that got turned into movies. The Twilight movies were absolute trash (hell, the actors even agree) and the books were only slightly better. There should be no comparison that Hunger Games is better. Even if we're just comparing movies, HG has a lot of depth. It explores real world issues. Twilight is just showing the emotional state of a teenage girl. I understand why it's so well perceived by teenagers but at the same time it's promoting unhealthy relationships and codependency. I obviously wish that they included a little bit more of the grit that the HG books had but you have to keep in mind that this series in meant for teens. Reading it may give you more details but seeing it tends to leave a bigger impact and I can guarantee they didn't want the movies to be too dark otherwise the ratings might not have worked for teens.
      Sorry for the rant lol

Also, since the game makers love to fuck with the players, it doesn’t matter if they try to kill each other because the game makers will end up killing them anyway (the dogs, the fire). It’s disgusting. Also the genre you’re looking for is Dystopian/Young Adult. I also fw the Mazerunner series.

    Jennifer Lawrence did play Mystique in the X-Men movies, but only the later ones (post 2010) aka the prequels. The Mystique in the original trilogy (movies from 2000 - 2006) was played by another actress. So JLaw wasn't that old ("38 or something"), she was born in 1991 so she was ~20-21 at the time of The Hunger Games. And she's 33 this year.
