🤷Sorry, I'm a believer in speeding only when there are no other cars around. You're just creating unsafe conditions for the traffic around you
that initial lift off from 213 to 209 saved you. I always tend to hover the braking pedal when traffic starts merging regardless if they are in my way yet
Exactly
Right, he should have been backing off more, it's hardly surprising to see someone indicate and move out when they shouldn't; it's simply not safe to pass a queue of cars like that at such a high relative speed, other drivers make errors.
yeah i always hover my foot in the brake and have cruise control on, with my left over the clutch if i’m near possible hazards to slow down slightly before fully committing to braking
For real. That’s good driving right there. Thinking way ahead. I also can see the possibility of that Golf missing the fast car in the mirror (for the other car in between).
I do the same. I actively monitor the road for potential hazards, I’ve seen enough dashcam footage to have an idea what tends to go wrong. In this case it’s not so easy because of the speed difference, it’s difficult to predict what’s going to happen so far ahead.

This is why, whenever I see a truck with a car behind and I'm on the left line, I automatically expect the car behind the truck to pull left at anytime, so most of the time I slow down to prevent any accidents. On the other hand, whenever I'm on the right lane, I never pull left when I see another vehicle quickly approximating
Exactly, people don't watch their mirrors, and are too impatient
There has been a Truck, the black VW and a grey VAN.
At that speed it is a matter of 5 seconds for the 200kph vehicle to appear in the mirror and to be as close as a crash.
For the black VW it might have seemed like the road is free and no vehicle is approaching, when he checked.
Thats why it also always at least partly is the fast drivers fault as soon as youre above 130kph

A big part of driving well is anticipating other peoples' mistakes, and there's no way you can when you approach them this quickly. Thank goodness you have quick responses, but preventing is better than curing.
When the road is empty, you can push 2oo quite safely. Hell, on the A3 you often have traffic flowing at 160 in the centre lane and faster on the left one, so going slower would hinder other drivers.
In the autobahn you have to exaggerate your braking in timing and intensity. I would have probably coasted or braked in this situation, with a very slow truck holding back faster cars. The VW would still have pulled out in front.

@@DxCBuG slightly disagree with the idea of waiting “until the lane is free”. If there is sufficient traffic that could mean waiting for a long time. @@dermuschelschluerfer You are meant to be able to know how to do an emergency stop and a third of all driving tests must include an emergency stop - that said, the speed at which you do it is usually pretty uniform (20-30 mph in city, 40-50 mph on country roads).
This is arguably the biggest danger of the Autobahn.
It's not the speed in and by itself, but that drivers are driving as such incredible different speeds.
I've almost caused a similar situation on the Autobahn. Looking to overtake slower vehicles, looking in my rear mirrors, seeing that there's noone even close, only to then realize that despite me already driving at 140km/h, the car behind is catching FAST.

@@Morpheus-pt3wq40 km/h difference is still a lot. I don't blame you one bit for not wanting to be on highways
Dude's yet to realise that side mirrors exist
That civic did a lot better than I thought
Well done for actually avoiding the crash and not sitting on your horn instead (and having the crash) like most people seem to do
He’s an asshole. He had plenty of time to see the situation and adjust. Just another rude punk with a fast car.
Well at that speed it would be the last honking he ever gave
I had a close experience last week in autobahn.
It was the first time i had to drive in free speed limit road ( im from France and our highway are limited 130kph max ).
I was at 170 in autobahn then a guy with something like Mercedes just merged into my way at 90 kph.
Losing from 170 from 90 was intense in no time.
Edit : no turn light for my case, so i was surprised
Literaly i feel like this happens to me way too much on the autobahn when i go do some shoping in germany (from france, elsass)
next time assume the other driver is a moron so you need to be able to predict too
whenever this happens to me i wish i had a turret on my car so i could light them up. shit pisses me off more than anything. people are so dumb
Finland has only 120 km/h...
Always consider, close to the border in European Countries driving is often worse than further inland as there is a lot of mobility across the border meaning a lot of drivers you encounter there are not used to the kinks and quirks of driving in that specific country.
that abs is really a life save i was once going 160 then someone merged from my right side to the fast lane from 160 to 70 real quick
You mean Autonomous Emergency Brake (AEB)?
It's amazing how you can avoid accidents if you brake instead of honk
I didn't realize pressing the brakes in Germany required reaching down with your hands. Interesting.
Insane stopping power from those brakes and kudos to this guys awareness.
Awereness is for things beside or behind you, you can't not notice a car right in fucking front of you
@@Lilian040210tell me you've never driven on any public road, without telling me
Wow Honda’s braking system is quite good
Absolutely. Those are stock brakes on all season tires.
The speed doesn't kill...; the difference of speed is the killer.
Best part is that he wasnt honking. You can still honk after you avoided a deadly crash...
You got to be pretty confident to cruise around at 210 on 2 lanes with trucks milling about
it was only two lanes for a short time. There was an "Einfahrt". I personally wouldn't drive that fast anyway, but it's not really THAT unsafe, considering what other people do on our Autobahn-
tbh it should be safe enough to go fast considering its the autobahn. if someone is driving on it, they know the rules and they know full well that there isnt a speed limit. and if the driver did want to cut out, they should also have at least put on their turn signals too.
@@thetruth9803 im not sure if its just me but i cant see the golf indicate at all, even when slowing it down and zooming right in..
The fault is 100% on the Golf. No excuses. He was behind the truck so driving at maximum 90 km/h, even if the car approaching at high speed was doing 150 km/h, he would have merged in front of him, making him decelerate significantly. That Golf's driver is an idiot. And he s not used to drive on the Autobahn, as I can recognize his plate being a French one.
Usually there is a speed limit of 120 on sections that have merging lanes, especially if it's only a 2-lane Autobahn. Not sure why it's different in the video.
Honestly props to you man
Ich würde dem zu 100% bis zu seiner Haustür folgen, egal wo die ist
Dude, how there are People like this driving in the autobahn....
That's why you always indicate well in advance of switching lanes to let everyone else know that you intend to switch lanes. Least if you fail to spot the other vehicle/misjudge the speed, then the driver of that vehicle has a few extra seconds to get out of the way/drive accordingly. It is bizarre that a large amount of motorists fail to do this and then go on to cause a very dangerous situation
They did. If you watch the video again, look at when that driver indicates a lane change compared to when the driver who took the video decides it's a good idea to hit the brakes. They're both somewhat at fault for this near miss imo
@@XavierVelez-xq2wc yeah, I went through a few times to check the turn signal. The video guy was wayyy behind golf, and golf used turn signals, so in normal circumstances that would have been a safe enough lane change (but of course I've only driven in places with at most a 70 speed limit). Guy really should have started braking when he saw the turn signal to let people in.
@@real_dddf no. you have the right of way on the left lane. and its unlimited. slower cars need to be on the right and if they want to overtake (the truck in this case) they need to make sure that there is absolutely nobody. and if someone is coming fast, you dont overtake. forcing people to brake because you overtake is extremly dangerous.
@@potzysk2 They put the indicator on as they were moving into the next lane, which you should not do.
@@com34234That is factually incorrect.
Great brakes on this Civic!
My personal "1st law of the Autobahn": whenever there is a car in close distance behind a truck, the probability of it changing to the left lane, diverges to 100%. I always prepare to brake in such situations, no matter how fast I am. Saved my butt several times the last few decades.
Nice save, i love when other drivers change line before start to accelerate
In Germany, there's a target speed recommendation of 130 km/h (80 mph). If you drive faster and an accident appears, you have a partial liability even your behaviour was fully correct.
Not necessarily. The court would decide on partial liability on a case by case basis.
modern cars have breaks like this and super advanced safety equipment but the speed limit has barely changed 🙄
This is why having no speed limit is a terrible bad stupid idea.
Impressive. one of my dream cars and that makes me want it even more. I've never heard of Vredestein tires tbh but I'm glad I got to know about them, great performance.
Vredestein are known for their all weather / all season tires. They are from the Netherlands, they are not the most popular brand but very efficient tires (a bit loud tho).
Their 4 seasons tyres are excellent, I use them on my 4x4
Its a great car, and insanely practical for what it is.
Isn't this car a Honda Civic? It's the same car I have. 1.5 L VTec turbo powered vehicle in either the sport or the touring trim. Either way, The sport trim has all of the same features and the touring trim has all of the same features that the sport has. Same for sport Touring. This appears to be a Civic touring if I'm going to guess.
I don't know how you reframed from using the horn after you composed yourself. Stupid people. Almost got ran over by an idiot not checking their blind spot the other week, the horn saved me haha.
I think his brain is worried about controlling the situation, if the video was longer, I'm sure he's laying on the horn 🤣
Brakes work better then horn
@@dnbeuf72 or you could use both.
Germans :)
Usually when people hear horn they tend to step on brake pedal automatically without thinking, in this case that would be a disaster
You know what? I am glad we have a maximum speed where i live. This is insane
That disc rotor must have been glowing thereafter
Stepping fully on the brakes at 200+ is a special feeling. Everyone who drives that fast should have done it once (on an empty Autobahn) before a dangerous situation occurs.
I did it at 180 on italian higway for a similar moron. That was... exciting.
Hearing the tyres scream at 200 was indeed a frightening feeling. My heart was pounding for a good 5 minutes
White people💀
What you wrote is so real. Unfortunately I had to try it because of similar situation as in the video. Everything fine but still.
It was very special feeling when I hit full on the brakes with 220+
Crazy...
This is a very good advice. In general, people should practice emergency braking at different speeds, and learn to correct under and oversteer. It's a good thing to learn the limits of what your car can do and how you can react
This is my #1 fear when on the Autobahn. I keep a hawk's eye out for blinkers and always show down around obscure turns because I had a close call similar to this
If this is your fear: slow down a little.
Modern cars have sensors which will warn you...
And this kids is why, just because you can, doesn't mean you should.
And that's why we have speed limits.
honestly i can't believe he made that, when he was just a few meters away from the other car - still driving 159 km/h and actually pulls it of??
Yes it was extremely close
That happened to me recently, only that I was the idiot not seeing the incoming car. It was in the evening and the sun was in my back and then the truck driver on the right lane startet switching to the middle on where I was. I had to switch quite fast and I didn’t see the Mercedes coming on the left lane with high speed because the sun completely covered the Mercedes. Nothing happened luckily, but it was a big shock for everyone. I’m still feeling sorry that this happened
Bad driver who admits his fault publicly. Here is a tip,
Anytime I am driving, I always keep checking my mirrors all the time (both side mirrors and the rear view mirror). This helps me b3 aware of my sorroundings so in times of obscured view like you described, I will naturally slow down because I feel the disconnection from my sorroundings and I will naturally become cautious or changing lanes because humans will naturally slow down on something they are not certain about therefore, in a case like yours, you would have not merged blindly
@@BadThrusher I wouldn’t consider myself a bad driver. In almost 9 years of driving that was the first time something like this happened. Again, it was a dumb situation but it still shouldn’t have happened. The thing is, this won’t happen again. Human error doesn’t make someone bad at something.
@@CptUhudiniWell, thankfully this situation never happened to myself, but I usually check my side mirrors (no middle mirror because van with middle wall) to be able to react to police/ambulance rather quickly. Sometimes I even had to go 20 km/h over the speed limit (on certain parts, where there is a posted speed limit) just to find room to merge right, so that I don't hold them up. One ambulance even thanked me for that.
Also, when I have the sun in my mirrors blinding me, I always slow down somewhat when approaching trucks to give myself more time to check for faster cars in the left lane before passing.
I would say that in Germany on some days it is much safer to drive 150-170 km/h than 100-120 km/h.
170 km/h is often the flow of traffic on the left, 150 km/h in the middle and 80-100 km/h on the right.
If you're traveling at 110km/h on the right, you have to be extremely careful at all times if you just want to overtake a truck. You either constantly slow people down or wait forever until you can overtake without slowing down others.
Your “mistake” would not have happened in this form at 150 km/h. Experience has shown that usually a truck doesn't drive in front of you - the Mercedes wouldn't have had to brake so hard or - the best option - you would have accelerated 300 meters beforehand - and pulled over to the far left at 180 km/h.
Some people think this is a specifically German problem.
My experience is that things run extremely smoothly and safely here, even without a speed limit, and most people are safe drivers.
In France or Switzerland, despite the limit, you have at least the same problems and more ruthlessness. Things are really bad in Italy.
@@olliGPL150 is never safer than 130.
Ekin=0.5mv^2
The higher the speed the bigger the mess
How long I need to use side view mirrors before I merge? None? I go now!!
Now imagine if he was going 250 kph, which is the limited top speed of a lot of cars in Europe 😲
That is a deathwish xD, even though it technically not illegal
well then if he crashed into him, it would have been his fault
@@ylzerb6188 bro what nah if you cut infront of someone it's your fault. You're 100% allowed to go 300 on the autobahn if you want, that's what it's for, if you hit someone that's been in the left lane the whole time it's your fault, but not if they just changed lanes into you
@@aribeauchamp899 yeah i know i live there, but you also need to be driving responsibly. If youre going 130 you might not even see someone going 300 because they just appear too fast ;) fast going driver should adjust their speed if he sees slow traffic
@@aribeauchamp899 No. Eventhough you are generally allowed to drive as fast as you want, going significantly faster than the "suggested speed" of 130km/h can result in a partial blame. Basically, it is "legal but on your own risk". So the fact that he was going 200km/h, and therefore had a lot less time to react than if he was going 130km/h and the Golf pulling out with 110km/h, might result in a partial blame.
I see so many of these videos and usually they aren’t really braking that hard. This might be the first video where I wasn’t sure whether or not the car would slow in time.
Especially the American videos always look like the car filming isn't breaking at all lol
Honda. The power of dreams
He's just thanking to god he didn't have an Audi R6...
Germany is full of this kind of drives that just change the lane and then slowly overtaking without consideration of traffic behind.
that is why they need to be out of the traffic. They don't deserve to drive
every country is full of those. look at videos of the american highway, thats pure insanity
That's why you should ALWAYS be alert when someone is driving behind a truck, because there's a good chance they're just going to drive into your lane going 100kph, even though they see you coming at 190kph.
Even though tailgaters have 70IQ and quite literally are too stupid to use mirrors correctly, probably don't even recognize themselves in a mirror, and definitely don't see you coming at 190kph...
