I have a 95 930. It had the STX group set (unfortunately the shifters were swapped out to grip shifters). Anyways, I converted it to an XT 10 speed 1x. Changed bars, stem and put a quill adapter to accept the 31.8 mm bars. With the tires it had on there, it weighed 23 pounds. I have since put some heavier tires on it.
Good job on the find. That’s a great bike to have. My brother-in-law has one in rough condition I could get for free. After seeing this it may be worth repairing. I would have never thought that they were worth that much. I’ll call with the info on it and price some parts from you and see if it’s worth fixing. Thanks for sharing.
17:15 a good all around cleaner I use is Simple Green®. I also use it on my chain. I use it undiluted & then thoroughly rinse in water, let air dry & lube each link pin.
900 frame were the best, i rode an 800. Great part on 970. One correction. We have smoother trails now. But also newschool trails, as susupension of over 100 mm is needed only if you ride fast on those. Usualy jumping

If you ride a lot, I would take advantage of new technology & use your card. Thru-hub frame, hydro disc brake, tubeless rims, threadless headset. If you don't ride a lot, save some money & pay cash like this video.

Scandium handlebars , a carbon stem and carbon bar ends for the 970 from 1995/6 .
People like the parts availability and that they are easier to work on. I have a couple of Schwinn hybrids.
The LX derailleurs acted like XT ones with the upgraded shifters, but were heavier. I ran XTR shifters because I got them used at a steal.

I just found a set of 739 combinations , new old stock in my store room . I have 740's on my Trek 4300 custom build which are in excellent condition .

The market for older bicycles is strong in Australia at the moment . Not many bargains , unfortunately . Gumtree Sydney will illustrate this .

Schwinn was still making some good bikes back then as well. I'm rebuilding an S-20 I found in the trash.

moron tubing means "more on ends" meaning the tubes were butted with more material on each end than in the middle.
Never heard that. What's crazy is we were selling Specialized bikes at the time the Rickhopper bikes were using that tubing. Thanks for the info.👍
